THR Impingement

Hi @lucinda007 So happy to hear you are having a pain free recovery. That is truly remarkable! Thanks for posting the picture of the compression contraption, it helps the people who have not had surgery yet to see whats coming.
I for one would sure like to hear about your pre surgery regimen. "I'll have what she's having"...

Of course you keep posting here @lucinda007- it is a great way to track your journey. To pm someone, you can click their avatar and a little box with basic info pops up. You will see send pm as option in it.

Hi,

Thanks for the info. I think I over did it a bit today. I was sitting most of the day and now my thigh sort of burns and tingles. Weird

Forgot to tell my pre surgery regimen. Starting 3 months out, I rode my bike about 8 miles 3x per week for aerobic exercise. I did pushups against kitchen counter, dips on chair and squats as best as I could. I concentrated on stretching my hamstrings by trying to touch my toes, and tightening my bottom and thighs (quads). For fun (haha) I worked on my balance. I ate very balanced meals and increased vitamin C (for healing). I know the exercises might be too difficult for some people due to the bone on bone situation. Anyway, that’s what I did and I’m convinced that it helped my recovery.

Hi @lucinda007
Just go ahead and continue posting with updates, or inquiries in your thread (here) as you just did.
You'll get more attention here than getting lost in another's thread.

It's easy to want to take off running when you're feeling better but best to take it slow. You are still very early into recovery. Bruised sensation on outer thigh is normal and may continue for sometime. Major surgery.....the area was traumatized and is in a state of healing.

You can PM someone by hitting the tiny blue box at the bottom of your last post that says "Send a PM"
Type in the person you are messaging where it says "Participants" then begin typing your message in the larger box. Hope this helps :)
Best wishes for a great weekend!

Thanks for the short cut @Layla ( that’s why you’re an advisor!)

Hi @lucinda007. I noticed you asked in another thread if those of us who have had (or are going to) have other hip replaced knew it was coming when we had our first. I had totally expected to have right hip done before left because I had surgery on it to repair torn labrum and he cleaned out stuff ( he was trying to buy me time). He told my children after lthr that we would just have to see how right did, so I knew it was a matter of time. The right started showing the familiar symptoms a few months ago. When it started being bothersome while driving I talked to os at check up. He looked at X-ray from surgery period nd said there was definitely arthritis but he couldn’t tell me how it felt, and looks and pain aren’t directly correlated. Tried cortisone injection, helped briefly, then the small nag started back. At recheck, pa took new X-rays and pointed out bone spurs, lack of space, etc. said it was not yet collapsed. I asked if I have to wait for that to happen before surgery and she said “not with this X-ray, but you are the only one who can decide.” Scheduled for February 5. Glad I am, because it is starting to talk louder. Don’t know why I won the arthritis lottery, but doesn’t really matter.

The fact your other hip looks good is terrific and I think the care you took before hand is helping your recovery. Since you’ve been through this once, if you ever need the other, you will be prepared. And the burning and tingling? From my experience and what I read here-perfectly normal.

I’m day 19. I’ve done great. No pain until now...I’m starting to have about the same level of groin pain I had before surgery. Dull and achey when I walk or go up stairs. I contacted my OS and he said groin pain is normal. I’m also wondering if I’m entering the over done it club. Hmmm. OS said to rest, elevate and ice. I’m doing more of that now. As a matter of fact, guess when it really started? Yep. After a new set of pt exercises (supine leg lifts 2 sets of 3). I’m done done with pt until the pain totally goes away. I’m worried that it won’t. . My question is:

Has anyone else with the anterior had this pain after surgery? And if so, how long did it last?

Mine also started when I was doing the bed-can-can. Right leg was the GOOD leg. Lifted it and, in lowering the extended leg, felt something not-right. Been living with not-right since. Can’t do lying leg lifts, can’t do glute extensions, can’t do many exercises involving rotating my hip. None of the massages I’ve had has helped .....

Hi @lucinda007 !

You'll notice that I have merged your newest thread with your original recovery thread. For several reasons, we prefer that you only have one recovery thread:
  • That way, we have all your information in one place. This makes it easier to go back and review your history before providing advice.
  • If you keep starting new threads, you miss the posts and advice others have left for you in the old threads, and some information may be unnecessarily repeated
  • Having only one thread will act as a diary of your progress that you can look back on.
So please post any updates, questions or concerns about your recovery here. If you prefer a different thread title, just post what you want and we'll get it changed for you.
If you need an urgent response to a question, just tag a member of staff.
How to tag another member; how to answer when someone tags you

Here are the instructions on finding your thread, How can I find my threads and posts? . Many members bookmark their thread, so they can find it when they log on.

It looks like you may have overdone it a little recently? That can take a few days to settle, so try to be patient with yourself. Almost everyone overdoes it at some point and it's all part of recovery.

Are you still taking your pain meds as prescribed? You're somewhat early in recovery and pain management is still very important.

While aching is part of healing, groin aching is a sign of overdoing it. Easy does it. You'll get back at it sooner than later by resting, elevating, and icing, and JUST walking, no PT. That's the mantra here because it's the truth! Enjoy it. Fuzzy slippers and favorite bevvies....you get the idea!

Hi @lucinda007
Oh, that's too bad! You've been doing so well. I'm sorry you're in pain.
If it hasn't improved with some rest and icing already I'm sure it will over the next few days.
Read "The Big Tip" again in the info Jaycey' left you on November 29th.
Hips actually don't need any exercise to get better.
Warm wishes you feel better soon and have a peaceful week!

I’m actually recovering from 2 surgeries! Bilateral hip replacement 18 months ago and bilateral knee replacements 3 weeks ago .....

[Bonesmart.org] Impingement Haha. Yes, I’m doing just that...rest, elevate, and ice. How about this look? It’s cold here today so I grabbed the mink coat I bought at Goodwill (charity thrift store for you all in the UK), bundled up, put on my warm socks and UGGs and am sitting in front of the fireplace with a cup of coffee. I’m not “laateedah” with the coat. It was a fun purchase and one I never wear outside. Go figure.

I love thrift store shopping. You can get some great stuff-some with tags still on. Sounds like you’ve found perfect spot for recuperation.

:wowspring:Snug as a bug in a rug with that look, lol!
You must have been feeling chilly! My kids bought me a pair of Uggs for Christmas
a few years back. I live in the Upper Midwest, known as the frozen tundra and I can wear them
all winter long without socks! I'm constantly barefoot at home. Socks make me hot! Put those on to run
errands and my feet never get cold. I've had knock offs too. They may look the same but as far as warmth goes. there's no comparison. To me anyways.

Hope your recovery is still progressing nicely @lucinda007 Three weeks today.....time flies!
Countdown to Christmas.....are you ready? Happy to say I finished shopping yesterday, yahoo!
Best wishes for a great week and a :merry christmas: :nativity:

Congrats on your shopping! I LOVE amazon! It has made my recovery so much easier. Less stress on mind and body. My groin pain is gone. No pain at all at the moment. I’m bored to tears. I have a pretty good book started. I’m not a big tv fan. Anyway, I have to get in good shape because my husband is having his other knee replaced (partial) on Jan. 3. And, we have 3 floors! I go for my 4 week check with PA on Dec. 27. I’ll be interested to see what they say. I do have questions. Lots of them. BTW, although it’s not Upper Midwest, we are originally from Indy.

Great news lucinda positive news thats what we want to hear only one month into recovery so let your man do all the hard work.

I may need. 12 step program for amazon! Have to lev my community to have. Wide selection of shops so I do most of my shopping on line. Glad you got the pain resolved, just don’t let bored lead you to doing too much! I guess you do want to be ready to help your husband. Lots of surgeries for the two of you in a short time.
