We're with you @sandyx7! You now have this giant extended family here on Bonesmart, so anyway we can help, just give us a holler. You are at the worst stage of this journey (so filled with questions, fear and anxiety), but focus on the fact that you are so close to joining us on the other side and putting all that anxiety behind you.
99% of the time, members look back and can't believe how much easier the surgery and recovery is compared to what they envisioned. Hang in there Sis, you've got this! :loveshwr:

@sandyx7
Wishing you the best for tomorrow. Only one day left to the start of your pain free life. God bless and you will be in my prayers today. Hugs and xoxoxo's! :friends:

@sandyx7 -good luck tomorrow. Will be praying for a smooth surgery. Keep us posted on the other side. :yes:

Hi, friends,
Thanks so much for thinking of me!! I've been keeping pretty busy to distract myself, I think. I'm pretty good. A little anxious but not over the top. I head from the joint replacement institute where I'm having my surgery a few minutes ago and I have to be there at 5:30am tomorrow. I am so, so happy that it's so early. The sooner it is, the less time I have to be anxious and the earlier I'll be in my room to start pt. I'm a little concerned about pain. I usually handle it well. Fear I don't handle well. I had an emergency umbilical hernia repair about 7 years ago and I was fine but I'm thinking this is a bigger incision. I'm also really excited at the idea of actually walking!! Idk if anyone else has had it so severely,but I can't stand for more than a few minutes and same thing with walking.
When I did the preop class, I was the way youngest there and also walked the worst
I can't wait to see y'all on the other side:)

@sandyx7 -so glad your surgery is first thing in the am. I hope mine is scheduled for the am on March 8th. Hope you get a good nights sleep. Just think, tomorrow at this time you will have a new hip!!:angel:

I literally couldn't walk 5 steps without horrible groin pain, so you're in good company! This is going to be such a blessing for you. I was early too and was so happy I didn't have time to sit and stew about it. It was over in a flash. Hugs!

@Cynthia777
Thanks so much, Cynthia. I'm really looking forward to WALKING! I see that you'll be having your other hip done. Has that affected your mobility, recovery, pain? I don't have a date for my other hip or plans yet. When my surgeon did X-rays in November, I had 0 cartilage in my left hip and 25% in my right hip. He said I'll def need to have it done at some point but fixing my left hip will hopefully delay that. I do know that my right hip's been bothering me more the last few weeks.

Yes, Sandy, it does affect recovery. However, keep in mind my case is different than yours. I sill have a collapsed hip that needs to be replaced, so I'll need to keep using the walker until then. My op hip feels so good now and I so want to just walk, but the other hip keeps reminding me that it isn't a happy hip yet. :heehee:

In your case, you may not have this issue, but you won't know until you're post-op. I really don't mind using the walker, but at the same time, I really just want to be free again and not have to "think" every time I'm going to stand up or when I have to walk to another area of my house etc. etc.

With that being said...I'm as happy as a magpie in summer :-)

@Cynthia777

I want to be a magpie also! I'm confused about your collapsed hip. Is that the issue you mentioned not knowing about until after surgery?

I have avascular necrosis of the femoral head, which is quite different than OA. The blood supply to the femur gets compromised and the bone begins to die. Eventually (where I'm at now), the head of the femur collapses, thus requiring a THR. All of my pain is located in the groin region and it's pretty intense. Maybe that's why I've perceived my first THR as not being very painful.

@Cynthia777
Wow, Cynthia, you've really been through it!! And you are so optimistic and encouraging. You inspire me, my friend. Will your rthr take care of the your condition so that you can be done with it?

@Cynthia777
Thank G-d!! We'll both be running around soon. I used to take my walking for granted but no more. I have lotsa plans with lotsa walking. Thanks for all your positive feedback and I'll talk to you tomorrow on the other side:)
