You're probably doing too much

I'd like to ask you some questions if you don't mind, and it would be very helpful if you would answer each one individually - numbered as I have done - in as much detail as you can then I'll come back as see where you are ....

1. what approach did you have for your surgery? Anterior, posterior, lateral? You can look here to see the various types THR approaches or incisions

2. what are your pain levels right now? (remember the 1-10 scale: 1 = no pain and 10 = the worst you can imagine. And don't compare this with the bone-on-bone pain you had before surgery! :no-fin:) Also don't forget to include other forms of pain such as soreness, burning, stabbing, throbbing, aching, swelling and stiffness

3. what pain medications have you been prescribed, how much are you taking (in mg please) and how often?

4. how often are you icing your hip and for how long?

5. what is your activity level? What do you do in the way of housework, cooking, cleaning, shopping, etc., and

6. what kind of PT exercises and exercises at home are you doing? How much and how often?

Can you describe them like these examples ....

Exercises done at home: 3 sessions a day
Heel slides x10 (reps)
Straight leg raises x10
Steps x10

At PT
Squats x5 (reps) x2 (sets)
Wall slides x5 x2
Clamshells X5 x2

Im feeling lower back pain. Is this normal. I'll be 4 weeks tomorrow. I'm waking with my cane . I can take some steps without my cane too. I think I'm doing good. But now this back pain started. Im didn't doing things again. I'm doing my exercises which are easy. Is there more to do that would help my back. It is hard just ti make a tea now.

Sorry. My pain level is good now. I was prescribed Tylenol and hydromorphone. Im only taking the Tylenol now st 4 weeks. Doing my exercises. They are easy now and don't hurt to do them. Im walking. I started with the walker. Then cane. Im icing every day m not as much now. The incision never bruised. .and healed excellent. I still feel a little teasing in the leg. Not sure if I'm anterior or posterior. The cut seems to curve towards the back of hip. I'm making my morning breakfast of oatmeal and tea. I can make my lunch. Started a little making supper. .i can prepare it. Hubby cooks it if it requires cooking on stove. Not done much for stairs yet. I have gone in the car 3 times. .can get in and out pretty good. No driving yet. I figured the back ache is from walking on cane and leaning.

Yesterday i decided to walk around my house without my cane to see if i can learn to walk straight. . It did help my back tremendously. I walked slow. Got around to bathroom. And made lunch. But i felt a pulling of muscles more in the thigh. Iced and rested with Tylenol. Feels better today. So i will walk some more using cane and some without.

Could someone tell me where the info on Dislocation Risk and 90 degree rule is? When I click on the above Welcome Pack link, I get a thread on MIS, instead!
Thanks!

I was told that info from my doctor. . If you bend more than that getting up from chair or car etc. Your muscles are not strong enough to hold the new joint yet. And if you dislocate the hip you will be in major pain and have more issues repairing.

I put the actual link in my post. Gremlins on the site are not letting me do links properly.

I cant upload my pic on the right thread. It says my cell doesn't have the right sized file. Boo. Im proud of mine. It looks so good.

I changed my resolution to the correct size. Took another. But it says i don't have the right extension to post pic

I had my 6 week check up. I'm doing awesome. Walker gone. Cane gone. But i use the cane out shopping. Incision looks great. No pain. Just a little stretching of the muscles in leg. But not enough for meds.

Good to hear you're doing well @lillibet123! It's just going to keep getting better, day by day. If it's your thigh muscle that's annoying you, try laying on your stomach, on your bed, loop a belt or strap around your ankle and with your thigh, flat on the bed, pull your ankle as close as you can to your butt. Hold for 30 seconds and release. Repeat this 3-4 times and you should feel that tight thigh muscle relaxing. Icing helps, too.

The physiotherapist gave me a stretch exercise. I use a green band tired above my knees laying on the bed and do the abduction by spreading my legs apart. And lay on good side lifting the leg into the air. I can do both very well.
