Is this normal - 8 weeks post op

I have been having aching in my right hip when i get up from the sitting position , it lasts for about 3-4 seconds and it TAKES MY BREATH AWAY , i don't know if its still the mucsle in the hip area or if its simply the hip itself , i only know or rather i would like to think at this point in my recovery that i shouldnt be having this kind of ache, pain ,call it what you will, i only take aleve when i absolutely have to otherwise i have been fine, this has been going on for about 2 weeks now - " is this normal "

Rich, two months is still early in your recovery. This is normal post op pain and it will get better with time. Be sure you aren't trying to hoist yourself up from a very low couch or chair. You may need to sit elevated on a pillow or taller chair for a while until your muscles are stronger.

You'll also note that I've merged your latest thread into your original recovery thread. Remember.....we like to keep your updates, questions and concerns in a single thread so that it tells a complete story of your recovery all in one place.

Hi Rich, you know even at 6+ months, I still feel stiff and ache a little for this first few steps after sitting for a while. It goes away when I get moving.

It happens more to me in the evenings after a long day at work and evey part of me is tired. So I just keep my walker handy near my chair and use it, no harm is giving the body a little assistance. I know even at my time of recovery, I still have a long way to go and am sure odd pains and aches are going to pop up now and then.

Nice to hear from you, and thrilled to see you encouraging other members and posting on other threads... Good for you Rich :)

Hi Rich, totally normal aches and pains at this point. You are more mobile and now asking those weak muscles to work the way they should. Are you icing at all? If icing doesn't work, try a bit of heat on those muscles.

You are just 2 months out - still early days. You are doing great!

That's a relief to know I'm still early in my recovery because I thought maybe there was something either wrong or something else, I'm still doing my exercises and taking good care of that good old or new hip of mine, after all no one else will right...i see my surgeon for my two month post op follow up then hopefully he will clear me to drive,I will be mentioning to him about my left hip, hopefully in January.

Hi Rich

I read back through some of your own early posts and now the comments you are posting on other member's threads and I just had to come to yours and........ Drum roll.......

Compliment you, you are indeed the man who just wants to make a difference.

Look how far you have come, I am so thrilled to know you and call you friend :)

Ohhh i bet you say that to all the guys...lol

thanks Sandy, i know how scarey it can be going into surgery so i know what she is feeling like , its an awful awful feeling to think you're going to die on the operating table, when i read that sentence in her post i had to reply and comfort her , how could i not, i'd be a hypocrite if i didnt.

@navyvet92:

No, only the special guys :)

Hey, by the way, I made Don today with 3000 posts, check below my user name Smja :)

You two are cracking me up :hysterical:

Well its official I had my 60 day post op follow up with my surgeon and it went really well with exception of him telling me he's not going to do the left hip anytime soon however at first i was a little angry but as he explained why I completely understood and that was as a result of all the weight ive lost and he felt I could continue to lose more weight and I wouldn't need to have the left one done and hes absolutely correct, you don't want another new hip Mr cooper you want to keep what you have already he said and again he was totally right, he went on to say that I have come a long way losing 56 lbs.

I should continue losing the weight because that will help my left hip down the road and also we can take a look at it in a year and see what condition its in then and if its down to the bone like my right one was we will make a decision at that time....he also said that if we can put it off for four or five years that would really make a big difference because you'll be older and it will last longer...Mr cooper lets not rush things you're a young guy lets make an appt for one year and go from there OK....he made alot of sense and i cant blame him and I can't get angry with him either I trust him totally and that's all that matters at this point.

Wow! Great job with losing weight:) keep up the great work! I know you wanted to get the other hip done so you can move on but that is really good advice from your surgeon. Especially considering your age, the longer you can put it off, the less likely you will be doing revisions down the line! Great to hear this good news:)

Rich, that's really good news! I didn't realize you had lost that much weight!!! Way to go, guy! I think your surgeon is definitely a "keeper." He makes a lot of sense.

Rick, I just got back from having my left knee done and had a hard time. I also discovered that a little more time between the last two would of been nice, so please don't rush and have it done early. Yes I know Its hard to wait, But hindsight I would of liked just a little bit of more time. Remember you are still healing. :doggieshmooze:Tashia:friends:

Well done Rich! Sounds like you are really on a role there. Congrats on the weight loss!

Just keep track of that hip. You certainly don't want to get to the bone on bone stage again. It take so long to recover when it gets to that stage.

I hope you will stick with us and encourage others through their journey. You have come a long way!

Congratulations Rich on the weight loss, fantastic achievement.

Great update from your OS visit too, it is nice to have faith in one's OS isn't it?

Hey Rich, where did you go... You were just online and I was going to chat with you... Ah wel! Another time.. :)

I was just thinking about you and wondering where you were. Good to hear you are doing so well.

All that nightmare stuff a few weeks ago - it's all done and (almost) forgotten, isn't it?
