I do not even know how to respond to that one. First of all thank-you for your service to this wonderful country.
You are tougher than tough. Maybe this is a chance to baby yourself a little. Take a few weeks off for yourself. You deserve it.

You Go Girl, you make us all proud and in awe!!!
Judy

Jessie,

Thank you for having the courage both for serving our country, and for sharing your experiences & challenges. I'm with Judy about taking care of yourself - first put on your own oxygen mask so you can help others wear theirs.

Thank you, Jessie.

Joyce

[/I]Jessie,
Sewell(Judy) and I are still waiting your reply on the New Issues thread. As two 50 year olds, we want to know how you are bouncing back so quick...Let us hear from you...Patty

Patty, I don't know what "new issues" thread you're talking about. I'm dainbramaged I guess. Can't even figure out how to make a new thread. I'm pretty much a peanut/LLD kind of gal for now.

Hey Jessie,
Thats o.k. It is on the joint replacement lifestyles section, then scroll down to New Issues...You have already answered the question though about how you are recovering so quickly. And once again, we are all proud of you...Patty

Thanks Patty for the info. $40 isn't bad until you multiply it several times..... I don't limp too much but sure have back problems. I figured out a long time ago how to walk without a limp. Of course that's probably why all my joints need/needed replacing! I was lucky it all took 20 years to catch up to me!

Jessie, there's nothing wrong with being "ain't right" As a matter of fact, I prefer that state of being! You do what you gotta do!

1jt,
Gonna wear my New Balance Tennis shoes over the weekend as much as possible and then slowly start taking my open toed Rykas(qvc.com) to have the inserts put in the soles.I do have a call in to my OS nurse to confirm that this is what I am about to do and get a little more info on the leg discrepancy thing...Anyway, gotta try and walk like a normal person even though I will always be fighting my Scoliosis and other hip...We shall see....

Patty,
I am not sure I will be walking like a normal person. At pt on Wed. they had me walk back and forth about 10 times, maybe more.
I asked my pt what the conclusion of my mini marathon was. I got stuff like my femur rotates in, causing my knee to become knock-kneed, my feet overpronate and on and on. Basically i was sorry I asked.

The scarey part was I felt like I was walking pretty darn normal.
Judy

I didn't even ask if I was limping. I will ask my doc today.
I know i am crooked. My left shoulder is up higher than my right. Has been that way forever. My purse and shirt always fall off my right shoulder. Now that my knee is giving me lots of pain, when walking the doggie at night, I feel like I am limping.
In the am , I am limping unless I take a percocet, then I can not tell. I am also really slow, except on rare occasions.
I can not figure out why and always try to figure it out.

8:05, soon it will be time for the freshman to arrive at the school. I am ready to harm the kid now.

Just got off the phone with my OS nurse. Josephine, she said that less than 4% of his patients have leg discrepancy issues. She said that they do all sorts of things in the OR to be sure things measure up. With the back being out of wack is probably the main culprit. And remember, I had a suture pop inside by the groin at about two to three weeks after surgery and that about killed me. I was also in that 4 precentile of that happening...so I guess I am the exception to the rule in many ways.....But as the song goes....I shall survive...

So, as of Tuesday, new lifts in some really good shoes...Give me a week and then I can scream....I am walking normally again.....Patty

That explains a lot Judy! I have trouble carrying my purse on my short leg side but never connected the leg length issue with that. My hips are visibly out of alignment but now I'll have to check out my shoulders....Karen

I realized my legs were diff lengths immediately(L longer) and tried to wear one shoe when in the house and put several shoe inserts in a pair of athletic shoes and one pair of loafer type slip ons for leaving the house. It's very odd then that I feel too high on my right side when I'm even. I'm amazed at how fast my body reconciled itself to one short limb. I know it's not a good thing. Just weird.

Karen,
Mine is not a leg length issue, my doc tells me they are the same size. It is due to scoliosis. I am sure the leg length difference has the same effect though.
Let me know about your shoulders
Judy

I had a 3/4" discrepancy before my surgery, so any lengthening was a blessing. According my surgeon I am pretty even now. As the joint settles he told me my leg could go a little shorter again, but they would keep an eye on it. I know what it feels like to have a leg length discrepancy. I had a hard time getting used to both of my legs being the same size :-). Debra

Debra,
How long did you have that discrepancy before surgery? It will five months before I go back to my OS and I have to do something now with the shoes until then. If not, I will stay in constant pain with the Scoliosis and other hip.
Patty

Hi Patty,
I was in so much pain and limped so bad before my surgery. I didn't even know I had such a discrepancy. I just knew I limped. It was my OS that told me about this. He thinks I've been walking "crooked" for so long that this is probably why I'm having such serious issues with my back now that it has been evened out. I'm keeping an eye on it.

Have you tried seeing someone about a lift in your shoe? Maybe you have, and I just haven't read it yet. Keep me posted.

Debra

Actually a lot of people have leg length discrepancies, surgery or no. I have one now, that I was unaware of until my first visit to the OS. I have limped so long because of limited range of motion and pain that started with my right hip. This last year I go to the Chiropractor faithfully because it really does help. My SI joint tends to go out because of the way I walk. It is a weak point in women any way and the pain is very similar to Sciatica. No fun.
I am hoping that once I get my bi-lats done and I can bear weight normally again, that it will eventually go away.Hopefully, once my muscles realign to hold things in their correct position. ;)
I go for my follow up venous scan (DVT in June) today. Think good thoughts for me if you would. If the scan is clear then my surgery is scheduled for the 16th.

Debra,
I will be getting lifts in my shoes, a few at a time and maybe I limped a little over the years and just did not know it. With the Scoliosis, I will always have issues but I too go to the Chiropractor once a week. That does help quite a bit.
I just keep wondering why my thigh hurts so bad in the new hip? Exercise does not seem to make it better. I guess limping has caused a lot of things to be out of wack. Anyway, I hope once I am normal again my legs will begin to get better. And, yes dealing with the other arthritic hip.....Turning 50 sure has been fun.....lol....

Hey Patty,
I am sitting here drinking coffee in the same boat with arthritis and pain in the muscles and ITBand of the new hip.
Of course my knee is throbbing too.
Took the kids to Sea World yesterday. Pretty flat walking. I was definately limping . don;'t know why as I was taking pain med too!!!

Judy

I guess it was because it hurt!!!
At one point leaving the Shamu show, the kids decided to walk over one row of seats as we were trapped. I just stood there and called them to come and help me!!!! They didn't and nobody around me moved to let me through!!!
