TKR Hopefaith's Ups and Downs of Recovery

@Pumpkln WOW. and I keep talking about ME. How are you? how have your pain levels been? thinking of you...
@kneeper So you have Fibromyalgia? How has this affected your recovery? I am finding I am having a lot more pain related to that than the actual knee, actually hard to distinguish.

Thanks for asking, pain at night is a 1 - 2, during the day 2 - 3, if I forget a pain pill a 6 or so. I get around the house with out problems, and am starting to forget the walker.
Sorry you are having to deal with the fibromyalgia in addition to your TKR pain. Hope they both start to settle down soon.

@Pumpkln nice pain levels. I really don't like those 6-7's. I am sitting here not sleeping with a pain level of about a 6 after pain meds. Soooo frustrating. Do you have trouble sleeping? I have had pretty good sleep. Tonight I have too much on my mind, so here I am.....

My Berg polar ice cube machine (my parting gift from the hospital) actually keeps the water temp in the low 40s (F) so it can stay on much longer. They use the frozen gel packs at pt, which is too cold for me and actually causes nerve pain, which I, thank God, don't have outside of that.

Just checking to see how you are going on. Glad you got some Gabapentin, it does take a while to really kick in. You have to follow the instructions to a tee. Lyrica worked better for me but had to stop it due to adverse side effects.

I didn't have a good night last night also, I was still awake at 4:30 am. I couldn't get comfortable. I've had a very slow morning my fibro isn't good today.

I feel like a schmuck complaining about the pain associated with my TKR when so many others have other afflictions that have their own set of challenges and pain.

I will certainly keep everyone here in my thoughts and prayers....

As tough as yesterday ended....I slept pretty good! I stayed in bed all night which is still a rare feat.

We all have our pain and we all have our issues. And we believe you, more than anyone can as we are quite along with you for the ride. So don't worry, use us! And I'm glad you got a good night's sleep. Mine was dribs and drabs, as usual.

:SUNsmile:I am so happy you all stopped in and told about your night. I feel like all I do on here is whine. I want to connect with you all and let you know I think about you and say prayers for you. This truly is where I "live" a lot right now. It is a God send that I found this. I just typed in something about how to deal with the emotions after a TKR and there you all were!!!!

@Tamsmom Please keep posting ALL of what you are going through. This is such a hard journey and we all need to:hiking: hold hands and go through it together. (wish we could all walk like THAT :D)

@busylizzie I am sorry you didn't sleep well. Sleep (or lack of affects everthing.) I tried putting both messages in the same post (to you and tamsmom and as soon as I typed the other name the first one deletes....

@hopefaith you seem a lot brighter today, that's good. Sometimes just chatting to someone who understands your problem helps a lot. Its better than bottling it up and keeping quiet. We are all in the same boat or we wouldn't be posting on this forum, we understand what each of us is going through. We are here to help, support and listen to each other the best we can.

:boohoo:@busylizzie That's interesting you say that. I spent yesterday crying the whole day. I guess I want to be supportive of others. You are all struggling too. I'll be back to whine I am sure. :boohoo: Getting my sciatic nerve cooled off with ice and repositioning has helped my pain levels SO much. A friend is coming by to take me out for a couple of hours. I probably can only handle about 1 hour.

yes, when I bottle it up, I get into trouble. good point!!!

I get cabin fever too, its surprising how it lifts your spirits to go out. Even a small outing helps. I visited friends for a few hours last night and it did me a world of good. You just have to be careful not to join the ODIC (over do it club). Little and often seems to work better for me. Remember to ice elevate and rest when you get back and don't forget to take pain meds.

Yes, I do have fibromyalgia. I'm not sure how much it affected my recovery, but I'm sure some of the soft tissue pain was related. But remember @hopefaith you are very early out and things will get better. You are in in the "angry tissue" phase everyone goes through.

It was nice to get out. I take ice wherever I go. I really don't care how it looks to have my leg elevated and and ice bag plopped on my knee. I think I was a little of the ODIC though. :thud: Lots of ice and elevation tonight. When does the crying over nothing (or everything) get better?

The crying and emotional instability gradually improve, as your body recovers. For now, just go with the flow (tears and all! :heehee: ) and try to accept it as part of the recovery process.

When I did sleep, I found that I also had nightmares - about accidents and other sorts of trauma. Maybe that was my body, reminding me that it had been wounded?

I kept dreaming I was falling....like every time I fell asleep. I was stepping off something and falling and catching myself just in time. freaky....
