THR Hitch & Get Along<

:happydance:@NanaKP! What great news!! :yes!: So thrilled for you!! Yay!!! Definitely snuggle down with the weather coming in.....get cozy and heal! You'll be doing this soon enough:dancy: Will be watching your progress as I approach my second surgery!
Hugs and well wishes :loveshwr:

Great news! You're doing well.
Not a bad time to be stuck in the house with cold and snow in the forecast.
Sounds like lots of cozy naps are in order.
I hope you have a peaceful relaxing weekend!
@NanaKP

:yes!:So glad that you are already seeing that this is going to be life changing.
Hope today is a good day!

I’m about to have a second THR after one 12 weeks ago. I just found out yesterday, although I knew from the pain in hip and knee. So. NOw my “good” hip is bad, and the bad, good. I’m disappointed in my body and cursing arthritis, but that’s counter productive. I’m scheduled to go in next month. I too just want to move forward, actually, I just want to move! Hopefully without pain! So, here we go . . . .

Hippy 1 week Anniversary Kim. I hope you're feeling fabulous :loveshwr:

Thank you @SwampHiker - Happy one week hip-aversary to you!!!! How are you doing? We woke up to 6" of that yucko white stuff today. My husband went back to work so I stayed upstairs until he could return late morning to help me get downstairs for the day. We have agreed that I will wait until he is there to assist until my hips are more capable of holding their own on the stairs! I did some laps with the walker in the garage then came in to settle into the recliner. I have some paperwork that needs to be done (insurance stuff) so napping will wait until a little bit later. I hope your day is going well and your 1 week recovery is at a place that you're comfortable with!

@NanaKP - no thank you to that yucky white stuff on the ground. I am determined to never endure another freezing winter. 29 of them in NJ was enough for me!

I'm happy to hear you're still up and moving! I don't blame you for moving ahead cautiously and think it's great hubby is beside you on that. Recliners rock! I'm actually chilling in mine right now with my old lady afghan (my great grandmother crocheted it).

I'm feeling fabulous at 1 week out. Hoping to transition to the cane only in the next few days.

Keep being awesome :egypdance:

I'm day 9 post-op! Wahoo. So far I'm still keeping to my promise of being "STILL". I'm doing minimal, easy, slow laps in the garage with husband's supervision. I do have a question though - I can't remember from the first time around but my incision is sore to the touch (mostly near the top). It feels like a very deep bruise and there's also some pain when I touch the outer right thigh (right at the GT). I'm thinking this is probably normal but honestly, it's really easy to psych myself out with every little pain right now.

Today it's 51 and sunny outside. This afternoon and the next two days should be in the 60s which will feel GREAT (need to feel that sunshine on my face and breathe some fresh air). The forecast for Saturday is lining up to mean a "stay at home by the fire" kind of day - "significant" snow is what I'm hearing (nothing about HOW much, exactly). Husband will be working at daughter's house on revamping their fireplace wall and hearth. It's a brand spankin' new house that they've lived in since July but she doesn't like the fireplace and of course, decided it should be changed out and finished for Christmas decorations. (Gets her impatience from her mama, I think). I shall find ways to keep myself entertained, I may even start addressing Christmas cards.

Happy Wednesday to everyone! Wishing you all a sparkly sunshine filled day!:spin:

Sounds like you've got a little pep in your step today! I'm so glad your recovery is going well and you're complying with keeping still. The grasshopper here has yet to learn that art....

I hope you get to enjoy that sunshine and fresh air that you are craving. Hopefully your daughter gets her fireplace wall and hearth done before those Christmas decorations go up.

Happy day 9, hope tomorrow is a bright sunshine day for you :loveshwr:

Day 10 post-op . . . I have a question for all of the double-hippy's out there @Mojo333. How did you maneuver going up and down the stairs? Did you find that some days one leg was stronger than the other? I already feel like my newly operated leg is about as strong as the 1st hip. I was concerned before I knocked the 2nd one out of commission because my left leg wasn't capable of leading up the stairs without me holding onto the rail for dear life. Now I feel like I could go probably switch lead legs but should stay with the left leg to give the right one longer to heal. Am I nuts? Overthinking this? Too early to tell?

Just something on my mind that I don't remember to ask until I'm there going up or down.

:chinstroke:

:hi: You sound very happy with hip two!

I did have a weaker leg so I called that the bad leg..up with the good and down with the bad. Certainly I toddler stepped it for quite a bit...you know, one at a time.
I think you are correct in thinking - give it a bit longer deferring to the new hip...still very new trauma that doesn't need straining.
Just do be careful! No falling down and going boom!:nah:

@Mojo333 - I am very happy with hip #2. I'm still icing majority of the time (like 23 hours of the 24). Today I pushed it a bit more because my husband is super busy at work. I showered by myself AND I managed to get myself down two flights of stairs with my backpack full of "stuff", my ice pack and some laundry (the later two in a pillowcase gentle tossed down the stairs). My husband has been coming home later in the mornings to help me down the stairs and then get settled in the recliner for the remainder of the day. Today I knew that he must be crazy busy when I had not heard from him at all by 11. So . . . . I tried it, did things verrrrrry slowly and I did well! I'm quite pleased with myself actually (now sitting with a fresh icepack). I do find myself wanting to lead going down the stairs with operated leg #1 instead of #2. I don't know if it's out of habit because it was my bad leg for so very long or if it actually still just feels like the bad leg. When I ice, I often ice both hips at the same time (very large ice gel packs). Trust me, there shall be "no falling down and going boom".:bignono:

I go see Hipster on Monday so I will toss it out there for him to see what he thinks. I did call my husband and told him there was no need to come home, I was settled in (he left a cooler for me by the recliner with a protein drink and 3 bottles of water) so I know I have plenty. I can also get to the garage where my walker is to do laps or access our second refrigerator.

I'm now going to work on ordering groceries for Thanksgiving. I already have 2 fresh turkeys ordered (hubs will pick up Tuesday night). We are hosting it here but this year we are doing it differently, instead of a set time for a proper sit down meal (where I would certainly end up being on my feet for several hours), we are having an Open House style with everything in warmers, crockpots. That way the grands can take naps when necessary and the kids can opt to come before or after. I can also retire to the recliner once the food prep is complete and relax the rest of the day. My husband is the "turkey whisperer" so he will handle all of that.:loll:

Hope you are having a great Friday!

Gobble til you Wobble is almost here! (Or is that accurate if I'm already wobbling?)

Oh my stars ...do what feels comfortable I would say...just not lots of it.
You are doing so well!:yahoo:
Turkey Day sounds splendid.
I've been preparing 70 bags of thanksgiving fixins to go with the turkeys we are distributing to families in need.

I don't even like turkey by now:heehee:
Sounds like a great day you have planned!
Onward....:loveshwr:

@Mojo333 God Bless you for your work in helping those in need. It sure seems like we need not look far to see where we can give. This weekend is our area's largest food drive, we have participated for years. We will give again this year but the bulk of our focus this holiday season will be shifted to the foster care program (our youngest daughter and son-in-law just became licensed so our grandchild count is rising even as I type this)! It appears that God has chosen us to be blessed with blue-blue-blue and MORE blue. I see those hazardous Matchbox cars multiplying!!

Best of luck to you in getting those amazing gifts assembled and delivered. Again, bless you for your amazing work!

We work closely with our local fostering agency.
Also a wonderful way to invest in someone's future and enrich your own lives.

It used to be those blasted plastic cowboy and Indians or little green soldiers. Man, those hurt to step on at night!:nah:

We our fair share of lego's and jax when our girls were little @Mojo333. Yikes!!!! As a quilter, my husband forbid me from sewing in bed after I managed to cause leaks twice in our waterbed. We STILL have a waterbed (today's more modern one with all of the baffles in it) but I still don't sew in bed!! Needles have definitely been on the floor to step on but I do try to pick all of those up immediately because of our dogs!

Tomorrow is my first post-op. I'm a bit nervous. It's really hard not to compare or think back six months to my post-op of my first hip. The last few days I have a LOT of popping in my left (first) hip when I walk, move my leg. I don't know if it's because my legs are now even and the hardware is moving against the muscle of that hip or what but as the day progresses and I am up and down more, I get equally sore on both sides. I struggle going up and down our stairs - though I lead with my left leg (now my good leg), my leg, hip and butt muscles hurt soooo bad while in action. Going down I tend to want to go down with my left leg but I force myself to go with the right, it just feels weak.

Gah, really REALLY trying not to overthink all of this yet I am trying so hard to be more aware of WHERE the pain is coming from (since I clearly didn't register that I was walking around on a fracture for 3 months).

Wish me luck - Dr. Hipster, ready or not - here I come!

@NanaKP Happy 2 week hipaversary

I hope Dr Hipster is able to deliver good news and put your mind at ease. If it's any reassurance my non operated hip is more sore than the operated one and I have nicknamed my left glutes Rip Van Winkle - they are surely are awake now and struggling to get with the program after a very long slumber.

Hoping every day gets a little better for you.

@SwampHiker - a very happy 2nd week to you as well. Ohhhhh those awakening glutes funny how intense those twinges, zings, pings and groans can be! I will be sending positive vibes your way. When is your postop?

I haven't seen my incision as it's been under wrap and cover (waterproof bandage). I have a zipline so hopefully that can come off today and we'll get a good look at my 2nd frankenstein mark.

I'm just trying to decide what to wear now. Will have to go to xray first then on to his office (down the hall). I have found it much easier to wear my biggest running shorts since they're lined and no need for extra underclothing. My legs aren't much to look at with all of this movie-watching and trauma the last 6 months. I guess I'll have to just get over it. My husband is coming home to help me with my shoes and socks before he loads me in the car!

Happy Monday!

@NanaKP Thank you. My post op visit is tomorrow.

I hope your 2nd Frankenstein mark looks like its healing healthily. Don't you worry, soon you'll be back to living and go go go. Your legs will be sexy enough to be in pantyhose commercials before you know it!

Happy Monday!
Best of luck with your post op. Let us know how it goes...if you feel like sharing.
I hope you have a great week. Your idea of Thanksgiving sounds relaxed. I like it, I like it! :happydance:
Wishing you well on your healing journey and a Happy Thanksgiving with all those you hold dear.
