TKR Here she comes just a walkin' down the street

The way to a nurses heart is always food especially something that can be grabbed on the run. We always appreciated it,

Whew, had the last group pt in the afternoon and was discharged at four. Drove to the hotel and got settled, am now elevating on my foam leg pillow and icing. No problem getting pain meds filled, I was worried about that. Knee hurting today even while lying down, maybe a 5, so am very happy that the norcos are safely snuggled in my bedside table. I think the getting in and out of the car and moving around the hotel was a bit much. I had planned to shower tonight but will just rest, elevate and ice instead.

I'm sure you're exhausted after discharge and travel. Absolutely save the shower for tomorrow. Do you have a bench or chair to use in the hotel for showering?

All the activity today wore you out...I hope pain gets better and you can get some rest!!!

Glad you are done with the hospital. Hope you get some good rest, ice, elevation now that in your hotel. Hope your pain stays manageable. Im sure you are wiped out from the day and the travel, just get plenty of rest. Hope you can sleep well.

@KarriB no bench or chair, but I chose this hotel because it has a walk in shower. I think most sleep inns do. And a grab bar. And they gave me some extra hospital socks with grips to not slip on the wet floor. I'm just going to take three showers while here, at home have a barrier free shower with a chair.

:bath:Just be careful. Some people have become light headed in the shower with the combination of warm/hot water, meds and standing for a prolonged period. A shower can take a lot out of you for a few weeks. Some days a shower was my BIG activity!

As for the shower it was the same for me. Right after had to go to or recliner and fell a sleep even if it was early inthe morning. Be careful

Sounds like you are doing well and can hopefully get more rest at the hotel. You were so brave to be awake. I had a very serious talk with my anesthesiologist that I was not to be awake or aware of anything! Maybe that's why it took forever for me to "come to" after. LOL.

That little leg lifter (looks like a stiff dog leash) is proving its worth. The bed in the hotel is sort of high, and the foam cushion, of course, is higher yet. I'm temporarily unable to lift the leg more than an inch or two, so use the leg lifter to swing it up and up again.
The pain did get worse last night, night 3, maybe about a 6 at the worst, but bearable until pain pill time clocked in.

Sounds like you are doing pretty good, all things considered and not being home. Hang in there..

btw, what is your first name? ;) I dont think I ever knew it, and its not in your signature.. just curious... to call you something other than "greatlakes" in my mind, when thinking of you

Audrey-- glad to know your name. You've had a busy day! I am praying that you get a restful night of sleep. Glad you decided to wait on the shower-- I did the same thing. I felt had done my day's work after the shower, and took a nice long rest after mine. One thing I learned-- if I dropped the soap, I had to be very careful standing back up after bending to retrieve it-- very dizzy. I wish I had had some of that old fashioned "soap on a rope" :).

Don't be surprised if all you want to do is rest tomorrow. That's a good thing!

Today for the first time, pain would get bad, maybe because of the dreaded bruising finally showing up. But pain pills and glorious ice sure do work well. Found a good way to get in my short walks. Our room has a low toilet with no grab bars. The public restroom, which is quite close, has a high toilet with grab bars. So I use that, and get in my short walk every couple of hours, plus one longer one today down the hall.

Hotel hallways would be great for walking with your walker, much like hospital halls. Amazingly I had no bruising at all. Not sure why not. Do your meds handle the pain well enough?

Today for the first time there were a couple half hours when they didn't, but both times the ice machine had warmed up, and as soon as it was refreshed with new ice and that cold was slapped on, I was comfortable again.
