TKR Here she comes just a walkin' down the street

@greatlakes
The others are correct. Don't allow the use of weights this early in recovery. Wait at least 3 months.

Well done for the stairs, but don't do them too often. It can take as long as 4 month before you knees are ready to do stairs one foot to each step, so there's no need to rush it.

Talked to pt today and told him I'm not up to using weights yet, and he was quite willing to go along with me without a fuss. Truly, everything else he's doing is basic stretches, bends and extensions without any outside manipulation. It feels good. Plus we practiced walking with a cane. And the good news is over the past week I've improved to 110/5. He only measures once a week, which I like. I'll only do the stairs every couple days, slowly and carefully.
Tomorrow I go to get my toenails cut since I'm not up to doing them myself yet. And from there, I am driving my car to pick up my parents at our little airport, but hired a lady to meet us there and deal with their luggage and walkers, since I know that's beyond me yet. So I'm pushing a bit, but not recklessly. Also hired someone to deal with their suppers and dishes for another few weeks, now that they're home.
I'm headed to read all your recovery threads now, knee fully iced and elevating after pt. Best wishes to all!

It sounds like you have everything under control! Enjoy your parents.

Wow! Great ROM numbers.

Wishing you the best as you get your parents settled. Hopefully you can RIEM after you get them settled.

Thanks for inquiring about my folks, they returned home today and for now, all is well.

Great recovery you are having. And what a great daughter you are. Your parents must be really wonderful to have raised such a great daughter. Keep up the great healing and being in control of your pt.

25 days out. No formal exercises today, just some stretching when I thought of it. I rested in the morning, then did a couple errands walking with a cane and driving my car. Then I took my parents for a nice scenic 20 minute drive. Then for two hours of rest, icing and elevation. Next I went to the community center to do my volunteer job of showing the afternoon children's movie. First time I've done that since the operation. It wasn't too stressful, but sitting up for almost 2 hours did tire me out, even with my leg up. So than an hour rest in bed, and supper with my parents. We hired a lady to come over and get supper on the table, clear and wash up. Now I'm back home, quite content to do nothing but lie in bed with ice and elevation and read a book. I'm only doing one norco now, before bed, all else tylenol. I'm still doing only short walks involving little errands. Leg not too painful, but tight and sore and achy, maybe level 2 resting, 4 moving.
Hope you are all well and healing.

You are doing great! It is so nice to get back to our old routine. I hope your dad is doing well!!!

You certainly are very organized and doing a great job caring for both yourself and your parents.

Yes, you are organized! And sound terrific. I hope today is a zig for you :)

30 days out. I'll do a detailed report on how everything is going, Going out a few times last Sat took a bit too much out of me, so since then I've cut back to just one trip out per day for about three hours. I drive, bring a cane, do a few short errands, take my folks for a drive and then visit with them for a bit. The car is a forester, easy to slide in and out of. Tues and Thursday I have pt. Then I stop at a restaurant and have a peaceful lunch while I read a book for an hour. Then home for the rest of the day. All these activities are within a few miles as everything is pretty close. No heavy traffic, no traffic lights on our peaceful little island.
Once I get home I'm mostly lying down with my leg up on my foam cushion for the rest of the day and night. I go into the garage for a half hour on non pt days for 10 minutes nustep, 10 minutes recumbent bike, and ten minutes upper body dumbbell exercises with the weight bench. Pt is Tuesday and thurs. I give myself a day off from formal exercise on Wednesday. All week I do the usual gentle bends and stretches.
I'm experiencing some hip pain and was given a great stretch for it at pt today. My OS told me before the operation that the hip pain is not arthritis, but the distortions of my left side to compensate for the stiff and bowlegged left knee. My pt said the hip is really tight. So I'm walking very slowly and deliberately to use the correct gait, and will faithfully do this new stretch for the hip. The knee pain is pretty controlled. Some discomfort and zingers, but really less pain than before the op. The scar is sensitive and still a lot of tightness and stiffness, but rom and extension are coming along. I gave up the norcos last week, couldn't deal with constipation. I take two extra strength ty twice during the day, and two ty pm extra strength before bed. One inexplicable pain on my outer upper thigh, no bruise, figure it's just one of those things that showed up and one day will disappear. My bruising is pretty much gone, still some swelling.
Driving and sitting are quite comfortable, for longer periods of time every day.
Still taking stairs the easy way, but it's much less painful than before the op. Found myself taking off without the cane for the first time yesterday, went back for it though, not quite ready for that. I ice about three times a day still for an hour each time. I'm doing my own laundry now, but drag the clothes to my bed in a laundry bag instead of carrying it in my arms. I need one hand free for the cane. Bags with handles are my new favorite thing. Shower every day but still using a shower stool.
In 9 days I'll be on the mainland for ten days and will have access to a pool, so I look forward to doing some water exercises. I'll also be the driver for a fairly long trip, but plan to break up the usual one day drive into two days each way.
I compulsively read all your threads every day. You all are in my thoughts and I hope so much we all come out of this healed and ready to move on.

A good sign when you forget the cane! But you were right to go back for it. :)

This is a wonderful report of steady, sensible progress. You are very active for one month. You are well on your way to total healing. It is so good to hear that the pain is less than pre TKR. Your little island sounds wonderful. Can you still get to the main land when the ice comes?

Your ROM is great! I do admire you for using a cane even tho you don't always think you need it,always good to have it by your side. Life on the island sounds heavenly :)

Sounds like you're doing well, Audrey. Good for you! Taking things slow, steady and making adjustments when you notice problems is the way to go.

@Floridagal hi AmyJo, we have little airplanes all year as long as they have visibility, so they don't fly in fog or low cloud cover. I really don't like the little planes, though, so usually take the ferry, which stops mid dec and starts up mid April. In the winter, I hunker down unless there's a medical need to fly over.
