TKR Graduated!

I do not know the term for it, but has anyone heard of a totally plastic lower platform, bearing surface? not a drop-in plastic puck, but a one-piece that has the post into the bone and is glued in place. That's what my OS says I have, but I can't find anything like it searching the internet.

I also found out what knee I got. A J&J DePuy sigma, with an all polyethylene lower platform, no metal. Surgeon predicts 25 year life.

The spacer is polythene, but all the DePuy Sigma implants i have seen when looking on the internet still have a metal stem that goes into the tibia.
Like you found, all the DePuy Sigma implants I saw on the internet still have a metal post that is inserted into the tibia.
I'll ask @Josephine if she knows.

That is what I found, but the OS was very specific about it, showing me a model of a "standard" sigma but describing the total plastic construction of the platform. Specifically describing how that design avoided the space between the "puck" and platform where infection could grow.

The vast majority of knee implants look like this:

There is no cup that I know of in a TKR implant---but I am willing to bet that the company that makes the hip implant also makes a TKR implant with the same metals.

found this in a search, and google found it in bonesmart. All "plastic" lower.

I walked .8 miles, and did have a little muscle tiredness, but no knee pain and no pain medicine!
That's a lot of miles for so early in your recovery. Don't forget to give your knee time to rest and heal.

I thought it was really over-ambitious! LOL

My OS agreed to let me take over my PT. He said if I feel like I'm failing, he will write me for more "professional" PT sessions. I do not plan to fail, all I need is 6 more degrees of extension, and improving my heel-toe gait.

found an article on All-poly tibial components, apparently gaining popularity.

*sigh* After 4 weeks of PT, no progress at all on extension, stuck at 6 degrees. I'm bummed. He says I should have kept my leg straight after surgery, I probably bent it and it stuck there. :(

I call BS on that. My OS told me to keep it just a little bent while I was still in the hospital. Your extension will come. Be patient. Use the exercises Josephine has posted in other threads. They are simple, and designed to be done frequently for short periods without pain, but they are effective.

Thanks for the encouragement. Other than extension, I couldn't be happier with the knee. It does not bother my stride, and I am pain-free for the first time in almost 2 years. PT guy says I need at least 6 more weeks. But the OS and I agreed last Friday I could go it alone after this week.
