THR Ginny's Recovery Thread (LTHR)

@Mojo333

Well obviously i am a Super Fan of you too not just Layla and the other moderators.

You are so right about giving back to others. Pre op i was so caught up in myself. Pain and disability can take over ones personality in a negative way. I am not saying that as a judgement but more as an observation. I am not a religious person but on some level i feel born again. Mainly in the sense that while i am lucky enough to be able to walk and not be in pain i want to make my time on earth mean something good, to try and help others. The OA experience and aging has also made me much more mindful that things naturally decay and that is nature. But, and this is the important bit, to enjoy the NOW as it tastes so much sweeter with the awareness that things will change.

My husband will be OK, thanks.

I think that you know how much your support means to me, thank you again. x

@Ginny12 So sorry to read that your hubby is ill. Poor guy. Hoping it is a 24 hour bug and he is rid of it soonest...so debilitating these tummy bugs :sick:. Try not to get it yourself...wash your hands a lot!

The "reminders" were my OS telling me about the poor gentleman who dislocated at three weeks out, just twisting strangely getting out of his recliner and had to go through the surgery again....like @Lea61 has just gone through. Then I met the amazingly positive, smile and light from within gal while waiting for my follow up x-rays...and she was waiting for a final hip aspiration, as hopefully her infection will be behind her from all the antibiotics she has had, and she can have her revision hip put in in January. You read about even more dire situations here, and are amazed by folks' strength while going such adversity. Meeting someone in person, who is going through the infection beating process for over a year, and who shines such a bright light all the while, has even more impact. More reminders of how blessed I am :).

Wishing your hubby a speedy recovery....keep us posted :SUNsmile:

Oh, dear, @Ginny12, I do hope your husband is feeling better--lots of nasty bugs thrashing around and infecting folks this time of year. My son was sick last week with the stomach flu, and my PT appointment this past Tuesday was canceled when my therapist got ill. You are right that it's time for you, as you're able, to pay it forward to your husband after all his care for you during recovery. Let's hope it's just that old 24-hour bug, and he'll be feeling better shortly. It's a good day for soup, I'm thinking, and split pea soup on a gloomy day like it is in my neck of the world seems like a good plan--off to the kitchen!

Hi @Alitm @Barbaraj

Thanks for your lovely posts. My husband is much better today. He was unable to get out of bed yesterday so i was the responsible adult by default. If he had been ill like that when i had just come home i dread to think of how i would have managed. Really brings it home to me how lucky i am to have help, people doing this on their own deserve a medal.

Last night with my husband ill and the dog going mental because of no walks that's when my cat decided to play up. I had just changed the sheets on the bed and was having a lie down. The cat for reasons best known to himself decided to jump up on me and be violently sick. As i tried to throw him off the bed he saved some vomit so that it could land in my shoes. My dog loves eating vomit! I was personally covered in vomit, my clean bed filthy and my shoes a mess. The worst bit was trying to stop the dog eating her tasty snack and me not fall over. All this while trying to be quiet as my husband so ill. The clean up operation took some time!

The good news is that nobody has been sick since.

I wish everybody well.

One thing is for you sure....you cannot make this stuff up. Great evening you had, no need for the telly. Have a good weekend.

Dean

Ugh!
That's like a nightmare. I'm so sorry. I'm envisioning you laying on your fresh clean sheets trying to relax
then :holysheep: WHAT JUST HAPPENED?!! Dirty sheets, dirty shoes, dirty cat and dirty you. Happy vomit eating dog, lol.

I'd cry :bawl:and feel sorry for myself a little while cleaning it all up. Then I'd lay down on my clean sheets once again after cleaning myself, the cat and my shoes and most likely laugh rethinking the whole thing :heehee:

Thankfully you're all feeling well today. I hope you enjoy the weekend!
@Ginny12

@Ginny12 And you thought your recovery was uneventful, game changer!

Sounds like you had quite the night. I'm glad you made it through and everyone is keeping their stomach contents where they belong. Hugs, tonight must be better! Hope hubby is feeling better quickly too.

@Ginny12, What a night :yikes:! I sure hope you have a calm day today.

We have two dogs, cat, horses....and they always manage to find THE worst times to be ill...usually when we are ill. My little pony managed to get his rain sheet tethered to his hay net the day I got home two weeks ago, and the horse carer person found him, not knowing how long he'd been like that...since the previous feed or what. Then the poor little guy got what we called "cast" a day later. He had rolled and rolled in his stall and got stuck against the side of wall. Luckily the little guy is little, and the horse carer is strong, so was able to pull him away from the wall, and he was able to get up. I think his rain sheet was itching him and he was trying to get it off, so he is now running around without it, and no further issues. He has a wooly coat and has shelter, so probably didn't really need it on. Our older dog is so gross, and finds every disgusting thing on the farm to eat and then puke up, that we don't let her go out unattended anymore! You have my deepest sympathies...never a dull moment. Puke on clean sheets and in the shoe have to be the worst :bawl:. Poor you!!!

How is hubby feeling today? Don't you come down with it!! Thinking of you.....

Wow, excitement at the residence of @Ginny12!! Not the good time, but amusing to read about--smirking still although I realize that the reality probably wasn't much fun for you. Glad everyone is feeling better now, can't imagine how yucky that clean up must have been.

@Alitm @Barbaraj @Jamesdean @SwampHiker @allena @Layla

Thanks one and all for your posts. My husband is much better, thank you. As you can imagine when 'Vomitgate' was actually happening i was not amused but i can see the funny side now.

I had some new orthotics fitted post op, i have pronation (feet turn inwards/longstanding issue) both feet. My regular PT told me better to get them sooner rather than later before the gait gets established. Again i am extremely lucky in that my legs are the same length now. As i understand it don't get orthotics for leg length differences if at my stage of recovery.

To any pre-op person reading this post i would just like to say things are going very well for me. I really don't want to tempt fate, but i can walk well without a stick. Yesterday was the first day when i walked outside without carrying my stick. However, the UK weather was lovely and so i felt bold. Today lots of rain so if i go out i will carry my stick. Before the op i had a really pronounced limp (for years!) but that seems to have gone.

I have no pain to speak of, i get an occasional twinge in various bits of my leg but not worthy of taking a painkiller. With my new insoles that might mean some new pain so i have been advised to wear them for short times only and gradually build up tolerance.

My energy has come back, but, it is all relative as i am not a dynamic person anyway! I need to lie down after reading what some of my fellow BoneSmarties do in their day to day life. In fact this is something that i will need to monitor in myself. I have form for refusing invitations as i am such a homebody. Now, i have a 'perfect' excuse to do so. This is definitely something that i will change as i have been given the gift of walking again and need to grasp life more.

I wish everybody well. x

Sorry to hear about Vomit Gate from all your resident animals!!

Getting out and about yesterday was lovely as the weather was so great. Brave of you to go stick free but fabulous too!

Hope you continue to see great progress:-)

@Ginny12 my condolences on having to deal with a barfy cat! Mine likes to do the deed when I am rushing to get out the door - usually on the carpet so it must be cleared immediately.

Pouring rain here today - hope you are staying warm and dry!

Okay, should've warned me about above scene as I've just started on my morning cup:mcoffee:
Poor Ginny!:heehee:

Glad to hear you are doing well.
Lots of healing still happening so keep all slow and steady.

You will have your life back in a big way Hip Pain Free!:egypdance:

I am glad you are doing so well.I'd be happy just using a cane-never mind walking without one.I think that walking without a cane would be a bonus.quite possibly a miracle too.I hope you have a good day.

@Ginny12 Great post, wonderful to hear you're doing so well. Onward! Keep going with the slow and steady wins the race. No knocking on the ODIC door!! I found/find it so tempting to over do when feeling great.
Glad that Vomit Gate is over and done with, phew! It does give one a giggle in hindsight, but definitely no fun at the time!
Have a wonderful weekend :SUNsmile:

I know it’s late in the day, but not so much a supplement I can recommend celery juice every morning, organic if possible. It’s high in magnesium and fantastic for gut health and inflammation. I swear by it. There is quite a bit of info on the internet regarding the benefits.

@Ldm380

Thank you for the juice tip, i totally agree celery juice very good. Now i just have to get my act together and wash the veg!
