I wonder why Jo?
Hi Diesellily I had a partial too. I'm plodding along and I've been very grateful for the help and support on this site.

I don't have a high pain threshold. I'm glad they're gone though. Hope you continue your recovery Joe

Me thinks you need to read Joes thread. He's a one for the blarney. :)

Everyone thinks that a partial is a lot less painful than a tkr--but that is simply not true. It is painful and there is the same period of three months to regain a basic level of fitness. You will have to allow your tissue to heal and it will take time. It is boring to sit around waiting for healing to happen!!

This is a good time to watch all the videos of Jane Austen's work or read those book you thought you might read some day when you have time. I just finished the "Art of War" which I felt like I SHOULD read!!

Seriously though, do not allow anyone to force your knee--it will set you back. Remember that you are in charge and no one can force you to bear anything really. Just speak up and say no. Your knee will heal, it is just going to take some time.

I dont think my work is going to be so understanding some how. I've been there little over a year and told them 6 weeks max as I was was told. Ow ow ow....had staples out today and tracky bottoms keep catching on the scabs.....

As a nursing student I was sent in to a patient who I happened to know to remove her staples. She was in the hospital quite late in the game because of an infection of the surgical wound. So you can imagine how removing staples went over! The ends loved to catch in the skin (!!) I stopped immediately and went and got my proctor (big mistake). I noticed the nurses had already developed a negative attitude toward the patient (my friend) for being a whiner. None of them seemed to consider she was genuinely having a lot of pain. I suggested to my proctor that we ice the area before proceeding to take the rest of the staples out. She set her jaw and said no, she'd take them out herself, and did. Just a cautionary tale for all of those who suspect an element of meanness. It's real!

Anyhow, I told my surgeon NO STAPLES. I had dissolving stitches instead. He complained it took him 20 minutes longer but although I have an ugly knee, the scar is not ugly.

I had glue, it wasn't discussed beforehand so I had no input. Don't know if there is a down side but there are no stiches or staples to remove. Also the incision went right through the old (50 year old) scar. So far it looks like it is doing ok.

Yes, I had glue too. and roll up your bottoms for a day or two so that the scabs heal. Then, you can tip them down again!

Here in the US, there is always the problem of being off work for an op---there is more than one person who lost their jobs while recuperating. However, I thought GB was more enlightened in this regard---don't you have some kind of deal that they must hold your job if you are out sick? Kelly

Tracky bottoms are rolled. Not very attractive with the surgical stockings but who gives a poo! I don't know the score with work and length of time off but I do have a handbook from my company so hopefully I can do some research. Hope everyone is well on the road to recovery.Big hugs Mandy x

I tried making a basic spaghetti bolognaise for me and my son last night. Big mistake in standing too long. Back to micro meals for a while I think:sigh:. I must listen to my knee more.

Would I be safe if I iced it then tried some exercises? I'm really struggling to bend still and leg raise is just not happening. Or will I risk more damage? Its so frustrating and really getting me down.

YEs, those stockings are quite the fashion statement, aren't they? :heehee: I'd say you're better off doing your exercises than standing to cook at this point. As you say, listen to the knee. Can your son help with the cooking?

Day 12 post op and things feel a little looser. The tight band of elastic feeling feels a little less :)

Glad you got some relief. That should brighten your outlook. Now remember this is a marathon roller coaster so you may go back to feeling that tight elastic feeling tomorrow but it's all temporary and just part of this long, trying process.

Im accepting the 1 step forward, 2 step back approach. If it turns out that tomorrow is 1 step forward followed by another step forward I will be dancing. Well not literally not just yet. :happydance:

I have my staples out next Wednesday. I did not have a choice of what they use. I have been at my job for 25 years(small family owned business) and get nothing for sick pay. I will just be off for three plus months. I WISH I had sik pay!

Hey I know I am a little late here, but when my 31 staples came out they hurt alot! I was yelling too, and I have a pretty strong pain tolerance. Hugs!

Awww hugs back xx My nurse had to do them in batches of 3 and it was an awful experience as several had embedded.:yikes: x

Yeah thats the way mine were too! A few were really easy cuz they were a bit more raised, but the others were really in there! And ouchie! Hugs!

Leg raised, icing and a bit of Britains Got Talent together with my boy who is my bestest runner. Thanks Danny x
