Yes indeed - it was such a relief. I usually have a bedtime ritual in that I get in bed, lie on my right side for a while, then my back, and finally my left side where I do most of my sleeping. Then if I wake up or get up to go to the bathroom, I do the same sequence.

@FlaGranny you amaze me! You have 10 years on me, but are miles ahead of me recovery wize. I know, don't compare, but while I am really happy for you, I can't help being a bit envious.

Maybe I'm not really ahead of you. I've heard that the elderly seem to have good recoveries because their expectations are lower. Maybe that's the problem. :snork:

Recovery seems to come in spurts. Last week I felt I made no improvement at all, but then suddenly I could do full revolutions on the recumbent bike. The last couple of days, I really have noticed improvement in my walking. I'm far from going bowling though.

Bowling sounds like a lot of work on a new knee!

Thanks to you, I took the plunge and did some side-sleeping last night. Just a couple of hours but it was heavenly.

Yes, heavenly. I think the worst thing about this surgery is getting sore back and butt from the position you have to keep to prevent pain in your knee.

Well FlaGranny, don't underestimate your amazing recovery. I'm the same age as you and my expectations were for a pain free and easy recovery......that hasn't happened yet and I'm 6 1/2 months out. I had no inkling that I wouldn't sail through after a reasonable recovery time and did t know that reasonable might take a year!
Your recovery is pretty darn great.

I don't think anyone has a pain-free recovery. Especially the first couple of weeks are kind of miserable. Actually I AM expecting more problems after my second knee. Eleven days to go and I doubt the first knee will be able to take over as much as I'd like. It is getting better all the time though.

I'm confident you'll do just fine, though.

I'm trying to prepare myself for a harder time with second knee on Tuesday. I know my baby knee is not ready to take over, especially the stairs. But I keep reminding myself that the bilateral simultaneous surgery folks seem to do fine, and we can do fine with our staged revisions.

It probably will be tough, but what a wonderful 2017 you will have with two good knees!

Yes, the bilateral so seem to do as well. So here's hoping your baby knee is ready to take on sibling rivalry easily.

I can use my new knee to go up and down steps, but it is a little stiff and sore to do. Ten days to go and hopefully there will be some improvement before then. I feel like for the last few days my progress is stuck. My old knee is giving me problems now that I am walking more and not doing a lot of medicating. As far as walking goes, the old knee gives me more trouble than the new one. Had my preop visit today with my PCP and my EKG was good. Don't know about the blood work yet, but should be good. Preop hospital visit on the 20th, and have my next followup for the new knee on the 22nd. Having another ConforMIS.

Visible swelling is mild, but inside there must be still some swelling as there is stiffness and soreness in the back of the knee. I don't think I'll get better ROM until that goes away. I think my flexion is close to 100. Still have stiffness and some mild pain to the right of my kneecap very close to my curved incision line. My walking I think is good. I concentrate on walking properly, although sometimes my right unoperated knee yells at me when I do.

Wow, that second op is getting close now. I'm visualizing you with two great, strong knees in the new year.

Week 5 (1 week to second knee) Wow, I didn't post in my thread Sunday and I slipped to page 3.

I feel that I haven't made any progress over the last week. I've been having a hard time sleeping at night - for the first time since surgery, probably because I've cut back on my pain meds to get ready for surgery #2. I've been practicing going up and down steps using my new knee. I get on my recumbent bike for a few minutes and do some revolutions. I practice proper walking. I take the dog out several times a day.

I overdid it on Saturday. I went to the library with my husband and it was crowded and I couldn't find a place to sit so I was on my feet. Then I felt pretty good so we went to the mall for lunch. No handicapped parking available so it was a longer walk than usual. Then that night I was swollen and painful. All in all, I cannot complain much.

My old right knee is complaining loudly now and hurts more than my new knee when I walk or move it in certain ways so I'm ready for it to be replaced too. Just wishing that the next few months would fly by.

Wow -- you are doing a lot. I still can't lead up or down stairs with my new knee. Doing it 3 steps up and down really hurt and caused swelling, and I'm only 8 days behind you.

My surgery got cancelled, so now I can follow your lead for knee 2.

Hi Flagranny, just curious with your walking at the five week stage, are you using a walker or cane, or is all your walking unassisted? Sounds like you had quite a day!
