Knee Infection Finally Finishing Up

Welcome home! Enjoy being in your own place again - you deserve it!

I'm glad you're home and hoping your pain is being managed. What did your Mayo say about PT? The Mayo in MN doesn't seem to prescribe PT anymore. The hospital PTs give you the exercises/stretches for you to do at home.

Well that picture post op is good, you have come a long way. I am very impressed with how well your external repairs look.

Any bonesmartie that has been thru revisions or complications can grasp your pain level is probably elevated compared to a normal TKA.

How did your quads react on the walker?

Peg, yeah your on the recovery end. Many prayers coming your way for an uncomplicated recovery from this replacement. Take good care, try to rest. Your story is incredible you have my deepest respect and admiration. You are a true trooper!

Thank you all! @KarriB the only pt was my ability to get around with the walker. @Bikesouth I was amazed at how good the incision looked, really clean cut. The pain is different with this. The regular TKA pain and then there is pain on different parts of the leg example the shin where they attached the allograft. The walker is kicking my butt,,I am so tired and ache. I am still in the brace weight bearing as tolerated . Absolutely no ROM and no use of the quad muscle. The pain meds are working well, I am dozing on and off all day. changes are happening:)

Let the medications help you to relax and sleep whenever you feel tired. You've been down a ver long road and it will take some time to heal. We are all here with you for hugs whenever you need one.:friends:

The quad will come, but from the look of the incision, it may take a week or more before it wakes up. I hope they've given you some good drugs!

Hi all!! I am happy to report that I am having normal TKA pain:) I like NORMAL!! So I have the "Iceman" working nonstop and my butt in the recliner with the leg up. It is funny how I have surgery broken into 2 parts in my mind..and I describe them separately.... The transplant pain is a little different. I have the constant ache in the shin area. I believe that where the bone is healing and tendons anchored. They told me to avoid all motions/pressure on the quad muscles for the next 3-6 weeks. The quad tendon is wired into it and they want everything healed up before movement. So of course I had that involuntary muscle twinge waking up this morning...definitely felt it and will avoid at all costs:) I am controlling the pain by the clock. My husband has me setting the alarm on my phone at night so we wake up for the dose. My prescription is for Oxycodone 5 mg tabs - 1-2 tablets by mouth every 4 hours as needed for breakthrough pain. I do 1 tablet every 4 hours and stay on an even keel.

My husband is doing a little spring cleaning and I can't believe how many health care appliances I have around the house. Going to have to give a good donation..1 wheelchair, 2 sets under arm crutches, 1 set of forearm crutches, 1 walker, 1 bedside commode, 1 toilet seat riser, 2 shower seats (1 with arms), multiple braces, leg lifter and a don joy iceman. I have been lucky to have everything provided so if anyone needs any one of these itens please let me know.

What an encouraging report you have! I can't believe how much you have been through and am finally on the recovery side! Praying are going up for your complete healing!

What a great report Peg! Keep on keeping on! Try not to over do activity. When your hubby is done with spring cleaning there can he come here?

Normal TKR pain is great! I'm glad you're resting comfortably at home. How great your husband is spring cleaning!

Today is just one of those days that I just can't get comfortable:( No matter how I shift the knee or what I am sitting in I can not find a spot. I am getting pain in the back of the knee like it is being hyper extended...but I still can't bend it...grrrrrrr

Oh, I remember that back of the knee pain. Can you ice it? That might help. It did me.

Its always two steps forward & one back as you well know. But it sure can drive a person nuts waiting on the next improvement. Your nerves are working overtime unfortunately.

Getting comfortable was always a problem. Icing the back as Paula said may help.
