TKR Feeling my new knee<

How is your OS checking for an infection? Is your incision healed?
An infectious disease doctor is important in treating an infection. They take a culture to determine what type of infection which will determine what type of antibiotic. There are several people who have had or are fighting an infection now on BS. They have a pink infection banner over their photo.
@tigz had a successful MUA and I'm sure could answer questions.

So sorry that you are having a tough time. I hope that you and your OS find the best solution for your knee. Hate to see my bonesmart friends unhappy.:console2:

@KarriB . My Os sent me for a blood test called CRP. It sees tat when you have this staph infection trere is a protein that will show and it will be over 6 mg/l. I should have the result today. Thank you for the info about the pink banner.
@Slainte, well this friend right nowbwouls like to have her old bone right now. But thank you for your support.

@tigz when you have a Mua, do you start at the beginning with pt and is it as painful as TKR.

I thouht I was finished with the crying and feeling depresse but it came bavk with a vengance. Last nigh I took a sleeping pill and I was up at 2:30. Nedless to say that it does not kelp the moral and I have pt this morning. Youpie!!!!!

Keep us up dated on your results. An infection is no picnic and brought me to tears nearly every day. But I did get better thanks to my OS, ID and the good Lord. I didn't do much except follow Drs. orders and pray.

@KarriB I just read your tread about infection and you surely didn't have it easy. At least you seam to finally have come throught it at long last. You are a strong lady.

I think an MUA would be easier than an infection. My symptoms were fever and seepage from the wound, it was a staph infection. What is your ROM?

My Rom is 100 but my extension is - 5 and the Os found that my knee is too stiff. He said that he would keep me 4 days in hospital to be sure that all is going according to his satisfaction.

And control my meds, since when I was in for my TKR we had some problems.

I wasn't allowed to bend my new knee for a month after the surgery for infection. I didn't have an antibiotic spacer, but my soft tissue was so damaged by the infection and antibiotic wash out, my OS said no bending for 2 weeks ( which grew to a month). My OS said he'd be happy with a ROM of 90. But when I was allowed to bend, it did bend, not a lot at first and it was very stiff. I started with easy heel slides and after a few weeks progressed to rocking the pedals of a bike because I couldn't bend my knee enough to go around. After a week of rocking I finally got the pedal to go around a month after permission to bend. The window for ROM is bigger than most believe. When I finished with PT my ROM was 119. I'm sure it's more now as I swim and bike all the time.

I had an outpatient MUA with PT just about every day for two weeks. There was pain in the thigh muscles, because they hadn't been used in a while that bothered me more than pain in the knee. The OS gave me pain meds, but I didn't need them for long. I didn't see the MUA as a step back as some say...because it was the only way for me to move forward!

Glad to hear that it was not as bad as TKR, because I still have pain and I still remenber the pain from TKR since I was not that long ago.

If you want to see how my recovery went @Tina48 click on the link in my profile. :)

Tina, so sorry about your problems, but as you say, at least it isn't an infection. Good luck!

Thank you and you are right better the MUA even if I am still kind of squimish about it.

Just received call from hospital. MUA is August 26th, and have to be there at 8:30 am. Still very nervous and anxious.

@Tigs I am reading your treads and I am up to page 16. But your recovery for MUA seems very encouraging.

the first one is a MUA and would stay in hospital for almost 4days which I dread - will the MUA hurt as much as the TKR
It might not even hurt at all but if it does, it will be moderate and won't last more than a couple of days. And don't forget that you can and must take your pain meds to manage it.
