THR EmEm starting the road to recovery

Felt so unwell today that I talked to GP who was shocked about the amount of medication I had come home with. She has explained how to gradually taper some of it off, especially the oxycodone to see if that improves how I feel. The longest I have stayed awake today is about an hour. It hasn't been refreshing sleep, it's like struggling out of sedation. Hopefully will improve gradually.

Oh no! Poor thing @EmEm
And I'm picturing you in a drugged stupor as hubby
is trying to rouse you thinking you're still sleeping too much.
Hopefully you'll get your meds sorted and start feeling more alive.
I bet you really notice progress then too,
Best wishes for continued recovery and some wakefulness!
Soon you'll feel like this :spin::dancy:

Oh that's not nice for you :( I hope you get sorted quickly and feeling better. That's not a pleasant sensation.

@EmEm It's sometime very tricky to get the pain management cocktail that is just right for you. Follow your GP's advice about tapering off gradually. Be sure to continue to ice and elevate when you can.

Early days! This should ease very quickly.

Yucky meds, unfortunately necessary to an extent. Hope you get it balanced out right.
Recovery is a journey for sure, but it does get there. Healing hugs!

Thanks @britt for your comment about your reaction to the medication which confirmed my suspicion. 24 hours on and there has been an improvement, enough for me to venture out for my first car ride since I came home last Friday. It’s our 37th wedding anniversary today and we celebrated with coffee and cake in a nearby town. It’s the furthest I have walked, all flat and mostly inside and there were no adverse effects. I have also had a 40 minute sleep this afternoon that I woke up from naturally.

Overnight wasn’t great, possibly as a result of the reduction in oxycodone but it was worth it to feel better today. Hopefully everything will settle now.

Thanks for everyone’s support.

Happy 37th wedding anniversary! @EmEm
What a sweet tradition and how lovely your surgery didn't keep you from
celebrating this year. First car rides feel so liberating.....like you're part of the
world again. Happy to hear no ill effects from the extra walking and you even
snuck in a nap.
Best wishes for continued recovery......sounds like you're on your way!

Happy Anniversary...rare for long marriages anymore.
Glad he got a good one.
Yay for cake:happydance:

Happy 37th anniversary @EmEm ! I'm glad you are feeling a bit better with the new med schedule. Recovery seems like a long road trip and sometimes we hit a few bumps along the way but continue on the journey until we reach our destination. It is always good to check in with the doctors when questions come up and I also found posting problems here on BS helped a lot as well. There were always so many people right here for support and it was amazing! I wish you all the best with your continued recovery!!

Thanks everyone for the anniversary wishes. Waiting for promised GP phone call to check that reducing painkillers is going OK. Hopefully I can come off oxycodone completely by the end of the day and that paracetamol will suffice. I had paracodol pre-op so would tolerate that if need something stronger.
Going to sit in the sunshine later to 'supervise' OH's gardening!

Glad you are able to get it in the sunshine..healing Vitamin D...great for body and spirit.
Kudos for you for wanting to drop the heavy meds so early...if it is able to keep you out of pain. I stayed on mine for over a month.
We are all different though. Hope it works for you.

Thanks @Mojo333, GP just called and says stop all oxycodone and go over to 500/15mg paracodol because he is concerned that I'm as yet unaware of what post op pain is actually like. Perhaps I will be climbing the walls once the oxy has left my system!!

Hi Fab 4! I was wondering if anyone else is having amazing dreams.....boy oh boy I could write book. So far so good with recovery.

Hi @weezie, lovely to hear from you. Sounds like your pain meds are causing the dreams, you are lucky if you can sleep long enough to dream!

Are you walking with sticks/crutches/walker? I’m doing well with my sticks and couldn’t find them last night as had walked from bathroom to bedroom without them.

Would love to know where you are in Canada as have visited several cities, including Vancouver several times.

@EmEm I am still using my walker but might just try my cane today.....I currently live on Vancouver Island....I live in Parksville, BC. I married a bloke from Manchester....where are you in the UK? Don't really have much pain, but I am taking Tramadol....x2 every 4 hours....never had such good sleeps in so long....still don't have much of an appetite and have not had a bowel movement yet....that will be a relief as I wean myself off of meds...I get my staples out October 18th and start physio on the 19th...
