I can understand your fear going into this surgery after having problems after your hip replacement. After my TKR I was actually worse off than before the surgery. I was so worried about having a revision that I would be worse yet and not be able to walk smoothly ever again. I made a mistake the first time with choosing the surgeon. I felt much more confident with the second OS and I had a much better off. You have chosen your OS. You have prepared for this surgery. We are here to help you through your surgery and recovery. And most of all there are prayers said from many of us have in your behalf to see you through with great success.

Diane, the terrified feeling you have is something that is very familiar to me. I also had to wait months for my surgery date, which is a long time to worry. I want to tell you I'm almost through my first week, and nothing has happened to me that was close to intolerable. I'd use the word "unpleasant" as a title for the last week I've lived through. Even that doesn't sound quite accurate, because among the unpleasantness I've had countless really happy or really funny or really touching or really exhilarating moments, and those help me get through the harder moments. At this point, I'm pretty sure I overdid it on the dreading and worrying. I just wanted you to know...

Diane, I can certainly relate to the fear factor about taking this journey. I, like you, have watched my world shrink. I'm tired of telling my granddaughters that I can't go for a simple walk with them, or questioning whether I really need that item I forgot on the ther side of the grocery store. I will tell you that I have absolutely no regrets about getting my RTKR in 2013. It is absolutely wonderful and totally PAINFREE. Hang in there - you got this!

I'm in Leesburg, Florida. Have been here since 2001. Prior to that I lived in Wilmington, N.C. for 13 years bt I'm originally from Pennsylvania. Where are you in Florida?

@Diane LTKR we are practically neighbors :) I am in Orlando. I have a good friend in The Villages, which is in the Leesburg area. Nice to meet you neighbor I am originally from Brooklyn NY. Been in Florida since 1979. What part of PA are you from? I lived in Johnstown for about 2 years when I was a kid. And spent some summers with grandparents in Elkins Park, suburb of Philadelphia.

I am from Johnstown! Small world isn't it? Did you go to school in Johnstown? Maybe we went to school together because we are the same age!

OMG, are you kidding? I dont recall the name of the school but I remember my address. It was 110 Venango St. And was just down the street from the Incline. We went up and down on that a bunch just for fun. I forget if the top or bottom of it was the Westmont area. We lived at the top. Wow what a small world. I went to 4th and part of 5th grade there. I am trying to recall my teachers name, but cant at the moment. Wow so amazing, Johnstown, who would have thought running into someone from there on the internet. Just amazed :)

I agree, it's amazing we both lived in Johnstown, now both live in Florida, and both having a LTKR....one month apart! Westmont was at the top of the incline. Not familiar with Vanango St. though. I lived in Geistown. We go back to Johnstown a few times a year to visit family. Won't be going for a little while though after surgery. I getting impatient waiting for my July 14th date. I just want this over and let the healing begin! I can imagine you have some of those feelings too. Hang in there...August will be here before you know it!

@Diane LTKR and we are both named Diane, with 1 n :-)

Ya, I'm scared to death, mostly because what I went thru with my hip, that is also on the left side.

Sometimes when I read the recovery threads and some are having good days I'm encouraged. Then I see they have bad days and I get discouraged.

@dianehelen You are ready. You've got all your equipment together, questions answered and friends here to cheer you on. In the end you'll be very glad you have your TKR. For now take a deep breath and try to relax and enjoy the warm weather.

Thank you @newlybionic . I know in my logical brain you are right. But in my scardy cat cry baby brain I just keep thinking of my hip experience. I know it will be a full year, with a few months of very challenging days.

Oh and I hate the warm, more like HOT weather 8 months a year. But thankful for the amazing invention of air conditioning :-)

I know I'm only 11 days out and my bad days probably outnumber my good days, but I don't regret having the surgery, I know that the nausea, inmsonia, pain, swelling, dry mouth, loss of appetite (actually I wish this one was permanent:happydance:) is all temporary and one day not too far, I hope, I can enjoy my life pain free. Living with pain is not way to live if we have a better option, and surgery is the only option!!

Good morning my bonesmarties! Todays question comes from a friend of mine in Chicago, who is just a few months out from back to back TKRs, 6 weeks apart. She is older than me and also quite overweight. She did remarkably well, but still having some trouble with stairs, but otherwize very happy. Anyway, she knows of my fears & concerns and asked if I could find out some of my OS patients, to contact how they did. Has anyone done this? Is it even possible (hippa laws etc) also, to ask this I have to talk to the surgical scheduler, who is the only one at the practice , I feel some friction from. She is hard to get a hold of, then seems to have a bit of a short attitude when I finally contact her , Thoughts?

Tell her it's normal to still have trouble with stairs for several months after a knee replacement and remind her that complete recovery takes a full year.

I don't think you will be allowed to find out about other patients for her. She can ask her surgeon herself, and see how she gets on. I doubt she will be told.

Why not suggest she joins BoneSmart and she can then ask for advice herself?
