Diane's Knee Quest finally the real deal

Although coma therapy sounds interesting, it would make you miss out on some of the good things about this recovery. Like finding out how many good people there are out there that care about you and learning that you are stronger than you thought and that you have earned this successful recovery by taking care of yourself. I'm with you on the pre op fear...I am 3 weeks post op tomorrow but remember the terror and the processing of the "what ifs." I second what @uva55 said though.....one of the biggest what ifs to think about is what if you could live your life PAINFREE.

@Diane LTKR oh sure... Bring reality into my fantasy :dubious:

Ya I hear ya. But be warned, that I will probably be a whiney little bairn (outlander reference) for these next 13 days

So, yet another wrinkle from the universe to me. My right hip joint started bothering me the last day or so. Wondering how that will affect my recovery. It feels like that typical clinching arthritis pain when I move it in certain ways & angles. Doesnt bother me too much walking, but more when I move certain ways

Should I mention this to my OS Monday , when I see him for my pre op appt?

Ughh. Darn thar universe :gaah:

Diane, I think you should so that you don't worry about it...did you a resistor taking any of your meds, like anti inflamatory???

O no! You can't use any excuses to get out of this now! ( just kidding). I'm sure you will be just fine. You will be resting a lot after your surgery so your hip pain will decrease too. The pain may be caused because your body is compensating for your knee right now.

any of your meds, like anti inflamatory???
I take ibu/tramadol a few times a week. Takes the edge off the knee pain, but this is a pain when I move so who knows

ou can't use any excuses to get out of this now

Umm can I use the "my dog ate my homework"

Just the timing is so sucky, has felt fine till yesterday...

How far before surgery do you have to stop ibuprofen and Tramadol? I was only allowed to take Tylenol for 30 days prior to surgery!

With all the pain meds you will be taking after surgery, your hip will be fine!

Hmm I think just the 10 days from pre op to surgery, but I have not been taking much. Maybe I'll call tomorrow abs ask.

All doctors have their own little tkr rules, I didn't I understand why mine took me off so far in advance, my back was killing me without my meds for so long. Most of them arev 7-10 days, my dad with his shoulder was 7 days prior. I was just curious.

Ya now ya got me curious. Just looked thru the info pack he gave me in May, but no mention of time frame to stop ibu. I remembered with my brain surgery in March, I also stopped about a week prior, but was able to take tramadol with tylenol.

Usually NSAIDs and blood thinners are stopped about a week to ten days before. Check with the OS tomorrow.

Ughh ted hose. Hated those with my hip. I see many here dont bother with them at all. I'll see what I want to do when the time comes

I loved my Ted hose. They helped me feel my knee was supported. But I had a lot of pain and swelling. And only wore it on the TKR knee. Later I got support hose and also loved them for the holding in feeling. My opposite hip started hurting a lot prior to my surgery. I was afraid that I needed a hip replacement so insisted on an X-ray. It was fine. My hip pain was overcompensation on the other side from walking in pain from the knee. I still have occ flare ups. PT has done a few stretches on it and it feels so good.
The universe owes you big time. Remind her of that!!

:bignono:

Diane, my OS said to stop 7 days before surgery. Now it's 10 days before and I haven't taken anything but Tylenol PM for a few days. No use starting NSAIDs now, I guess. My right hip has started hurting too. When they did my scans (My OS and/or the replacement manufacturer require scans the hip and ankle also) the scans showed moderate OA in it. I have mild OA in my left. Truth be told though, I'm hurting so bad now that my legs from hips on down are painful. I've begun using my cane around the house lately. I feel like a cripple or like I'm 100 years old. I so can't wait to have this surgery and then the second, and start on the road to recovery.

Called, and yes, they said that would be what they tell me Monday, to stop nsaids from that day forward.
@FlaGranny nice to know I am not the only one with hip pain, so close to tkr.

I use a cane around the house too.

Using the cane to get around the house was a real downer for me. It just started within the last few days. It definitely is a real help to navigate stairs.

real downer for me

Ya well I've been on a continuous downer since turning 62, almost 4 years ago, with one health crisis after another, so using a cane for me was pretty much a non issue. Plus when we go to the pool at the gym to swim, my swim buddy, who had polio as a child, also uuses a cane. So we get a lot of sympathy and help when we hobble in the door , so there IS that hehe
