I went to get a haircut today and was telling my hair gal, who has been cutting my hair for over 20 years, and knows my medical trials and tribulations, about my tkr. She told me, Len, one of the other hair dressers there, had a BTKR several months ago, and was back to work , in 6 weeks,on his feet most of the day. I guess he must be superman. Interesting, the wide range of recoveries there are.

His wife or significant other probably does everything at home, dresses him, drives him to the door and back, he takes breaks between clients and after being driven home and being fed just lays in bed! And I went ballroom dancing on my way home from the hospital!!! There are so many stories you here about that you know the person isn't T elling you the whole truth. While my recovery was truly amazing after my revision ( I'm telling you the truth now) there would have been no way I could have been on my feet all day and also take care of my dogs and take care of everything I need to do while living alone. I was pleased to be able to have enough food in the house for the dogs and I and to have enough clean clothes and to be able to take a shower.

Nope, I know the guy. He is gay, and his bf that does not live with him, and works nights. Len only works 3 days a week, and ya prob did rest between clients. But the fact that he was even able to do that at 6 weeks , I find pretty impressive. I dont know however how he gets to & from work, uber maybe?

I probably could have handled his schedule at 6 weeks but would have been miserable at home. Maybe he is also still taking pain meds too. That's something I haven't taken regularly since two weeks out. Not because I'm so tough but because I truly didn't need them as long as I elevated and iced and didn't let PT hurt me.

HA @uva55 Clara.. too wierd.. I was JUST posting to you, and see a new alert.. and there you were

Im ok, as the bookend, to you , I am tired of living such a limited life, but at the same time still terrified of what is ahead. I ventured out and did some small shopping at Publix today and came home in pain and exhausted, not to mention boiling hot.. this heat is just too much.

I also cooked , and get sick of take out. I just did my favorite one pan chicken dish, pretty easy, and we will have dinner for another night from it.

I also have a headache today, just to add to the fun. Probably from binge watching Outlander and getting super addicted to it, so I sit and watch 4 or 5 hours nonstop..

Hope you are doing better today, as I just posted on your thread.

We are heading to St Pete for a few days next week, may be one of the last weeks we can get out there till who knows when...

@dianehelen ...we go on Saturday the 16th, I can't go in the water, but I love the sound of the waves and the smell of the ocean, it is so relaxing, I can't wait.

I hope your headache gets better!!!

@uva55 have you ever gone to Caddys on the Beach @ sunset beach? Its just a few miles south of Reddington and the parking is literally 20 steps to the beach. I call it cripples haven beach, for obvious reasons. It's beautiful and the chair, umbrella & table rentals are free (we just tip the guy)

Diane, I got a waterproof iPod Shuffle and earbuds for my birthday two years ago. I wore these in the pool at the Y, which made my laps enjoyable. It's something about music that helps so much during exercising. Doing laps can be so boring. Adding songs and lectures takes that boredom away. It will probably be at least another month before I'm ready to try the pool again. But, I am looking forward to it. That and riding my bike outside! Of course, this hot spell got to be over before any bike riding around here!

@sistersinhim I have been lap swimming a mile 3x a week for over a year. I have a waterproof mp3 player that I swim with. I agree lap swimming without tunes is boring. But when I am in that pool, with my mask , snorkel and my tunes I actually enjoy it & feel like I am in my own little world. I have a list of about 400 songs on it. Im not an ipod person, too restrictive to use itunes. I can just copy whatever music I want to my diver mp3. I love it. And it's much better priced than ipod

Here is what I use

@LoveGiants it really is a great little device. It's a pure sequential play, so you cant see the titles, or choose playlists. But you can advance to the next song, or back to replay a song. Sometimes when I get into a certain rythem when I'm swimming, and into a song I like, I can easily feel the buttons and go back and hear the song again. Two that come to mind that I frequently replay are Coldplay Viva la Vida, and Pointer Sisters I'm so excited. It would be good for biking too, as you can clip it right to your shirt and easily access it as you ride. Last thing I'll say about it, is that the company that sells them has above average customer svc. The first one I had stopped working after about 8 months. I emailed them and they sent me a whole brand new set, extra charger and earphones as well. They also sent me a new set of earphones no charge a few months later when I asked if I could buy an extra pair.

OK my Bonesmart, friends.. tomorrow I go for my pre op info class, Im trying to think of all the questions I need to ask, this is what I have so far, if anyone can suggest any more Id really appreciate it, as my mind seems to spin in circles when I start to think about what lies ahead

1. Anesthesia, I know my OS uses general, but I want to ask about the possibility of local with block,
2. Ask about if they know any info about medicare covering the ice machine
3. ask about if they use Exparal? (?sp) after surgery
4. ask about their thoughts or philosophy re PT (maybe mention the BS way?)
5. as how long after surgery will I be able to swim

Im sure there are a million more things I want to know/ask/understand and I think of these things in the middle of the night, then when Im trying to compile this list, they seem to fly away from my brain.

Please, anyone who has any other ideas of what to discuss or ask, Id really appreciate it.

I also have a headache today, just to add to the fun. Probably from binge watching Outlander and getting super addicted to it, so I sit and watch 4 or 5 hours nonstop....

Save some of the binge watching for post surgery.

The ipod was a gift, so I'm not complaining. I've been using iTunes on my computers for years and have downloaded many songs off their site. I don't know if I could use another mp3 player with all my music and podcasts. I believe that itunes is incomparable with a different player. I would love to buy that one you have as a backup but without music than I could use it wouldn't make sense. Do you know if I could download the itunes library to it?

@sistersinhim it depends on a few things. What and where is the music on your ipod from? And what is your level of technical expertise? Music technically can be converted to any format. Itunes makes it more difficult but not impossible. If your music came from your cd's you have the option to pretty easily save them to generic mp3s. If bought from apple, it probably has drm coding, and you would need to be or have someone (me for example hehe) pretty saavy to convert them. If you buy music from Amazon, they are true mp3s. I really dont care for anything apple because of their very not open proprietary restriction.

So? Have I helped or just confused you. I have a tendency to do that, pitfall of being a tech junkie :rotfl:

Believe it or not, I do understand. For now I'll stick with my shuffle since it works great. If I need another one in the future I'll consider buying that one from Amazon. Thank you for all the information. Most of my music on itunes is from CDs I've bought and I put it on itunes for storage.
