Awww, no! @DeepBreath hon, I have quite a bit leftover. if tomorrow is a bad day maybe I could drive and meet your husband halfway and hook you up? I'd do it if you just say the word. the only other suggestion that I have is to call your general practitioner and have him/her call in a few tablets for you,, they have an answering service and would get in touch with your Dr asap.
I am sorry that I missed your posts and didn't see this sooner. :(

@Hipster Girl, you're so understanding and encouraging. Thank you. :) Yeah, I liked the idea of stepping down. It just seems the common sense thing to do.
I have some green tea and other herbal teas I got as a gift from my daughter and have been enjoying them today.
Nothing is really horrible right now. I'm just taking it a bit at a time and trying not to focus on it too much and freak myself out.

@Hip Hip Hooray! You're right. I went to bed at about 11:00 last night and was wide awake at 3:00 am. I read most of the night and then got up at 6:30 and had my morning banana so I could take my meds. I was able to lie down at 7:00 and get a couple more hours of sleep. My pain actually isn't too bad. I've been taking it easy today, but I've done my regular things like taking Gracie out and doing a few chores. I got dinner just fine and my kiddo and I cleaned up afterwards like usual. I'm a bit sore...interestingly enough I'm feeling it in both incision areas right now. I also feel kind of stiff and not as strong as I had been feeling recently. I'm honestly not sure if these are actual effects I'm feeling or if it's more mental. I so hear you about the addiction aspect. I'm not craving the Tramadol, just more afraid of the withdrawal symptoms I've heard about.
Thank you for thinking of me. You're awesome. :)

@CricketHip, God love you. What a tremendously sweet offer. It bowls me over that you'd be willing to do that. Thank you. :)
I'm hoping things stay pretty even. At this point I'm thinking that even if the nurse responds to my email and the prescription is put in, perhaps I'll just tough this out. Unless things get much worse I'd hate to get a start on this process and then go back on it.
I really don't know. I'm just going to see how it goes and decide as the symptoms make themselves known.
Right now, it's just the slight achy stuff I mentioned above and the thing I remember from when I stepped down from Zoloft; the sensation that my mind and body are not going at the same speed. I don't know how to properly describe it, but it's kind of a disconnect feeling.
Thank you again for being such a sweetie.
I like your avatar, by the way. I feel like there must be a story behind it. :)

Ok, Deep, but I would make the emergency run if you say the word. I somehow have image of a huge St. Bernard (me) running with breakneck speed toward VA. with a round flask of pill around it's neck... :heehee:

Actually, there isn't a story behind my avatar. Other than I enjoy anatomy.

How are you feeling today @DeepBreath? I'm glad that you're not craving the Tramadol. That's interesting what you said about your mind and body. I hope things go well today, and that you're not in pain. Do you take any Tylenol? I've heard that many people can substitute that. I hope you're okay.

@CricketHip, I know you would. That is the amazing thing. I told my husband about your offer and he was really impressed. Thank you SO much. :) I can't adequately express how much it means to me.
Now I have the St. Bernard image in my my head as well. :heehee:

@Hip Hip Hooray! So far, so good. I got a good amount of sleep last night, only interrupted for potty breaks (too much herbal tea close to bedtime).
Today I still feel a little achy, but a bit better than yesterday. I am doing my regular chores again (laundry, etc) as well as my at home PT exercises...just a bit more slowly that usual.
I think the mind/body thing has to do with the serotonin receptor thing. Tramadol acts a bit like an antidepressent. When you go off of it, the connections have to be rebuilt and it causes little 'nerve shocks' like brain zaps and goose bumps and the disconnect between mind and body feeling. I feel (not constantly, but in spurts) like my body is going at one speed but my mind is going just a bit slower. Kind of like watching a television show whose audio is out of sync with its video.
None of what I'm feeling so far is anywhere near as bad as it was when I came off of Zoloft. There are just tiny episodes. I also feel a bit emotional but that is likely enhanced by the PMS.
I'm in pretty good spirits though. I got to giggling earlier because it suddenly dawned on me that since I no longer have a lot of opioid in my system then it would be a good idea to stop taking stool softeners. :flabber:
Live and learn. :)
I am craving protein, so I've been eating nuts and peanut butter and fruit so far today. Those, along with the herbal tea, are hitting the spot.
So, my first day with no Tramadol on board is interesting, but doable. We'll see how things progress.
Thank you for your good thoughts. :)
**Edited to answer your question about Tylenol. Yes, I am taking Tylenol still as well as one Meloxicam per day.

Hi @DeepBreath it sounds like you are in good spirits considering the unexpected withdrawals. Glad to hear the protein and green tea are hitting the spot. I would be curious why your body is craving the protein; I am sure there is some biological reason for it, maybe related to stopping the Tramadol? I had to chuckle about the stool softeners, yep, might want to stop taking those. :heehee:

I hope you get things straightened out with the doctor's office today. You did great this weekend!

Hi @DeepBreath - I hope you felt okay the rest of the weekend with no Tramadol. Are your mind and body synching up a bit better now? Good for you for eating the foods your body is telling you it needs! And herbal teas can be so soothing.... Hope you have a great day today!:)

@Hipster Girl, aren't cravings an interesting thing? I agree that it would be fascinating to really know the ins and outs of why we have them. I have noticed a few very intense cravings throughout this whole post op healing phase.
It's mainly been raw vegetables and protein for me.
Still feeling pretty good today. There are a few slightly dizzy moments, but not many. I'm a bit sad today too, but I honestly think that's because of the news of David Bowie. Part of the soundtrack to my life.
I haven't even checked my email to see if the nurse has responded. I'm not going back on the Tramadol.
I will be talking this over with my surgeon though to let him know that just leaving somebody hanging isn't cool.
In this case it wasn't too terrible, but I've read where some folks who have been on higher dosages for long periods can have seizures if they go cold turkey. Perhaps it was a misunderstanding...dunno.
I hope your day is going great. :)

@Readysetgo, thank you so much for your good thoughts. :) Yes, the mind/body disconnect is much less now.
Re: listening to what you body says it needs nurition wise: definitely a good thing.
Enough about all that though. You are a One Week Post Op Hippie today!! :yay:
How are you feeling? I hope your recovery is going well and that you are getting to enjoy not having that hip pain.
Take good care of yourself! :)

Thanks for your kind words on my recovery thread @DeepBreath, love the support on this forum. So glad that you seem to be getting through the tramadol withdrawal OK - must have been stressful when you had planned it so carefully. I too went cold turkey from a very low tramadol dose about three months before my THR - i was wanting to see whether my steroid hip injection was working on the hip pain (it wasn't). Main withdrawal problem for me was GI disturbance - not nice. One tip that I found when googling managing tramadol withdrawal (theres a lot out there) was that if you need an anti-diarrhoea medication loperamide (marketed in the UK for traveller's diarrhoea as Immodium) is particularly useful as it occupies some of the gut opioid receptors that have been up-regulated by the tramadol, and it did work for me.

@DeepBreath, good for you not going back on the Tramadol. You already have a couple days without it under your belt so that's great that you are going to continue without it. I know you will do great!

That was indeed sad news about David Bowie. I wasn't a big fan of his music but was still saddened to hear the news of his passing. He was an icon of sorts. And another reason I hate the C (Cancer) word. It also seems like 69 is fairly young these days. It used to seem to me that 69 was old but the older I get it seems that anyone passing in their 60's is gone too soon.

@bettifloss, thank you so much for the tip about Immodium. You are not kidding about the huge amounts of information out there on Tramadol withdrawal (some very alarming).
You're also correct about the great support offered on this site. I am eternally grateful I found it. :)
Have you gone to the cinema yet? I'm glad you'll be able to manage that by using a cushion. From my experience with sitting for quite a while; remember to stretch your legs out in front of you and do some ankle pumps every little bit so as to avoid swelling of your legs. :)

I kept busy today so I could keep the blues away. I went to the store and got the ingredients for a dessert I'd seen online.
It's made with frozen puff pastry dough, a bar of chocolate, egg wash, and slivered almonds. It turned out beautifully and is delicious.

@Hipster Girl, that's what I figured as well. I finally checked my email and the surgeon's nurse had responded saying the prescription had been put in. I replied 'thank you' but that I wouldn't be picking it up since I'd already gotten through a couple of days without it and didn't wish to go back. She probably thinks I'm wacko. LOL!
Re: David Bowie, I was a kid when he was in his Ziggy Stardust persona and he used to creep me out a bit.
I'm lucky in that I have older siblings (12 and 8 years older) and they introduced me to music I might not otherwise have appreciated. I became a fan of David Bowie through them. I love his song, 'Heroes'.
I also think that 69 is too young to pass away. I think of it on a personal level and that's only about 20 years older than me. I hate cancer as well. It takes such great people from our lives.

I hope your day was good, friend. :)

@DeepBreath - yep just back from the cinema, it went fine and great to get out for the afternoon. Dessert looks yummy, off to google it.

@bettifloss, yaay! So glad you got to go to the cinema and enjoyed it. :) Wow, kudos to you! At one week post op I was no where near ready for such an outing. You're a champ!
The dessert is so simple and so yummy. If you try it, let me know what you think.

Really good PT session today. I was 'bumped up' a bit on everything and responded well. It felt good. Today was the first day I drove myself to PT and that was also wonderful. Gaining back that independence is so fabulous.
My PT gal did a really nice, deep massage on my leg/hip muscles today and it felt amazing.
I ran an errand afterwards and needed both hands to carry items so I didn't use my cane. I can feel the limp improving! Love those figurative and literal forward steps. :yay:

Another great report, @DeepBreath. I'm so glad that the physical therapy experience this time is so nurturing and positive. What a switch after that guy who smoked and treated you like a slacker. It must feel wonderful to be driving again. I remember how elated I was when I was able to drive to the gym. It was such a rush...

Keep up the great work!

@Hip Hip Hooray! your reply made me laught out loud. Yes, this PT experience surely is a long way from the first guy, thankfully! :)
How are you doing? Keeping you in mind as I know you'd mentioned several auditions coming up!

@geneva, I just read on another thread that you're getting ready to go into surgery. Sending out good thoughts for a smooth procedure! Looking forward to seeing you on this side. :)

We're having lovely sunny, yet chilly weather lately...just perfect winter weather in my opinion. After PT yesterday I spent the afternoon making several batches of white bean chicken chili, some for dinner and lunches this week and some to freeze. That was a big favorite when I made it for my post op meals, so I wanted to lay in a supply.
It sure hit the spot last night, nice and hot with a sprinkling of sharp cheddar and a dollop of sour cream. We ate in the living room so we could enjoy the cozy fireplace as the wind howled around outside.
So thankful for a warm home and good food.

Deep, you are sounding super! My goodness, that chili sounds delicious!
I had to giggle a bit, our dog had his final injection ( into the deep muscles of the back, very painful) and they gave us tramadol to give him for the next several days.
Seems to be the universal pain med. So glad to hear that you aren't suffering any withdrawals.. and yes, of course I would have helped you if you were in need.. absolutely!

Im at work, time is more limited to post these days.. but I lurk when I can.

:roseshwr:

Aww, @CricketHip, give that fur baby a hug from me. Poor baby. I hope he is all better very soon.
It always amazes me the medications that can be used on both humans and dogs.
Yes, I think I can conclude that, aside from some insomnia, I'm over the worst of any withdrawal signs. (Knock wood)
I am feeling good and am very encouraged by my progress. Just gonna keep at it and I know I'll get to my best self all in good time.
The chili is really yummy. I wish you could be here to share it. :) You're a true blue friend. Thank you!
I hope work continues to go great for you and that you're feeling wonderful. Stay warm up there in Philly! :mcoffee:

It sure was blustery and cold last night wasn't it? But I love cold days because the sun tends to be shining. A gorgeous day here today, too. :ice: uhh we don't need to ice packs today.. haha

I love cold weather. I usually run so hot that winter feels great to me. Now, the blustery wind...that I could probably live without. It just sounds cold, yanno?
There's nothing like burrowing down into a nice warm bed on a cold night like last night. :sleeep:
