Hi @Deep Breath, Have you heard of www.zellies.com? I've been doing her system for over ten years and haven't had any cavities since I started it. I used to have terrible teeth. She's a really interesting dentist.
Hi @DeepBreath !!! My surgeon gave me an RX for antibiotics to be taken for any dental work.. in fact they gave it to me at my very first appt when I scheduled for surgery. After working so many years in dental offices I think I would rather take the antibiotics and play it safe. @Nana757 we do stir things up in our mouths with our flossing and brushing but we are only stirring up our own germs, in a dental office there is the chance of other germs invading.
Oh and for what it's worth my surgeon says after 2 full years I can go for dental work without the need for antibiotics. So, I can do that for 2 years. I build up tarter and have a lot of crowns so I am in the same boat, the thought of a 6 ( or 10-yikes) month wait seems very dangerous for my mouth.
Gosh, I take a few days off and I see your son has strep.. I hope he's well on his way to recovery.

@DeepBreath this is interesting about the dentist - I will have to add it to my list of post-op questions which won't be until 4 weeks after my other hip, but I too am very curious. My insurance actually pays for 3 dental checkups and cleanings per year but I only do two; still I am very diligent about going every 6 months & can't imagine going much longer than that.

@Hip Hip Hooray!, oooh, I like the look of the Zellies products! I didn't read through the entire site. Do their products help with gum health? I have an 'odd' mouth, I guess. My teeth are super strong and healthy...only two cavities my whole life, and those developed within the last 5 years. It's my gums that I need to watch. I've reduced my pockets significantly and work on them diligently. I purchased a gum specific electric toothbrush even.

The PA didn't specifically talk about that and I'm not sure what my surgeon's guidelines are regarding that. What you said about other germs besides our own getting stirred up at the dentist makes sense.
My son is doing much better, thank you for asking.
Once we got the proper diagnosis, poor kid. He was feeling 'coldish' last weekend, missed Monday and Tuesday, and then my husband and I said 'Enough' and hubby took him to the doctor on Wednesday. She checked him out, no fever, some congestion in head, chest, and ears, took a rapid strep test and said if it turned up positive she'd call by 5:00 that evening. She said if we didn't hear anything he was clear and could go to school on Thursday. No word, so I packed him off to school on Thursday even though my heart hurt because I knew he still wasn't feeling good. My husband and I talked about it and he said he was worried about him missing too much school, which I agreed with, it's much harder to make up work in HS than in middle school. Poor kid came dragging home at 2:45, ate the soup I'd made for him, and then went upstairs and crashed. I get a call at 5:00 from the doctor saying he did test positive for Strep...it didn't show up in the rapid test so they grew a culture. It irked me that they couldn't call sooner, even though I know that takes time. The pharmacy at the family clinic closes at 5:00, so there was some rigamarole for my husband to try to get the antibiotics, but in the end he did. He felt so badly. He said, "You were right. Your instinct was to keep him home and I made the poor kid go to school." I assured him it was a mutual decision and that we just didn't have all the info. He is on the mend now though! Thank you also to @Hipster Girl for asking.
@AndyH99, I have a friend who had a THR a couple of years ago in Germany and she is also on the 'antibiotics for life prior to dental work' plan.
It is very interesting the difference between varying surgeons.

So good to hear from you @DeepBreath ! Your poor son. Well, you and your husband did the best that you could. And now he is getting better so it will be a memory that he teases you about in the future at the holiday dinners.

@DeepBreath, I'm not sure. It's been a while since I've read the material. That's great that you have such healthy teeth. I know one of the rinses she has you use is Listerine. It seems like that would help the gums.
Sorry that your son has been ill. Mothers always know those things. I hope he feels better. It's frustrating how last minute many businesses are now. Oh well.

Good morning @DeepBreath! I hope by now your son is on the mend from strep throat and you have not caught it. Another beautiful day here, isn't it? I have decided that I will cancel my dental appt this week, and wait until after I see my OS the end of November to reschedule. Thank you, @CricketHip, for the information about the germs in the dental office....didn't really think about that...but it makes perfect sense. Fortunately, I don't have a problem with antibiotics, so I'm prepared for taking them, if I need to. I, too, have perfect teeth (and all of them)...but my gums do have their issues. I use Listerine everyday and also those little gum brushes to get in between my teeth, after meals. With a regular dental cleaning, hopefully, I won't have any more issues.

Howdy, @Nana757! I think it's a good idea to consult with your OS re: the dentist. Anything that could interfere with healing and cause a set back is concerning.
It is lovely today. Are you getting sunshine there? It's overcast here, but the temperature is lovely.
Yes, my son is on the mend. He's back to being his old, goofy self. He has a lot of homework to catch up on though!

My appointment went great. My OS said my x-rays look wonderful and he was very happy with my improved ROM. I could not believe how far he was able to abduct my op leg, and with NO pain!
I am cleared for full weight bearing, but using a walker. I do have LLD, but I expected it as the OS told me it would be like that and that they will be even after the next surgery. I walked out of the surgeon's office today on both feet and no pain. Can you tell how amazed I am?
I talked to the OS about PT and explained a bit about my experience and asked what his preference would be going forward to the next surgery. He said what I need to do is walk (does that sound familiar? ). He also showed me a couple more exercises I can do to help loosen the muscles in my op leg and to strengthen it a bit. He said as far as the in home PT thing right now...I don't really need it. Just keep doing what I've been doing, eat well, rest when I need to, walk as much as is comfortable without getting tuckered out, and do the stretches he showed me.
I have an appointment for November 23rd that will be both a follow up AND my pre op for the next surgery!
So, another phase passed and onward to the next one!

OMG @DeepBreath! Such wonderful news! And isn't it amazing how he follows the BS mantra? I know you have just got to be beside yourself right now...knowing you can walk on both feet now. I am so happy for you.
