Hi Marianne,
Dr Spitzer did my surgery. He did several other friends of mine and the therapist in Ventura just love his work.. I have been going to him for about 5 years and did the synvisc shots which really helped but my back got so bad I,decided it was time. I am 15 days PO and today was the best day so far. Will see how night goes. Yea the police are not always on top of,their game. Good luck with your appts. My son sees add Elatrashe with Kerlen and Jobe but he doesn't do knee replacements.

Really, you've heard there are lots of complications with MIS? I have never heard that. Up here in Seattle that pretty much what they are doing unless the situation warrants otherwise. In fact, I thought MIS was considered an improvement over the old method. But what do I know. Lindsay and I are happy with our three knees. Sometimes you can do too much research, know what I mean?
I hope things go better tonight and you can get you sense of security back. We got crammed into the Paris Metro last year and when we got out Lindsay's pack had been picked. All they got was a little change purse with a nail clipper in it. :rotfl: honestly what makes people think they're entitled to your stuff?
 
Yes, I have not heard of any specific complications of MIS surgery. I had both my knees done with MIS--was happy with the faster rehab. I also like the 3.5 inch scar which just disappears on my right knee. My left knee had an additional surgery, so the scar is now 4" inches long and is more visible.
 
Cathy I can't believe you had Spitzer? Notice anything unusual about his personality or the office? Ha! I see Klapper on Tuesday. It is so weird that neither knee guys do MIS at UCLA. Anxious to see if Klapper does but maybe I should just call his office and find out.
For those of you who have had TKR for a few years, do any of you do yard work? I am miserable. Friday I spent 2 hours cleaning out my garage so I could get the car in. Then today I spent a couple hours doing light yard work, fertizlizing, clipping etc. Watering nothing major. Well both times I was miserable after. Am I going to get over this?
Yeah, Kelly and RAndi I'd like the MIS too but maybe those don't do them in California since malpractice is such a problem here. My son is a doctor and he will never work in California.
 
I've been doing yard work today. It's so lovely and getting to be that time here. We also did a beach walk and up a hill that used to kill me before, with Lindsay at 5 weeks, and I had no knee probs. Lindsay is sore but at 5 weeks I think she's doing dang good. She didn't choose to do yard work after, I don't know why not??? :happydance:

He has been bend over backwards nice to me in the 5 years I have gone to him.. Very personable to me and my husband always remembers things about us and ask about it.. But we were recommended to him by a friend that was at one time chief of staff of Cedera. Now his office I have to stay on top of or I notice things don't get done. But my son had medical issues all his life so I am use to staying on top of things... My regular doctor and My PT are really impressed with his work as well as other people in Ventura that have had surgery by him. I have never heard of Klapper,do you know,anyone who has had surgey by him? You could call his office and ask.. It takes a while to heal totally I have heard up to a year. Hi Marianne, Sorry to hear you are still suffering with your knee after working outside. We are surgery buddies having our TKR's done almost at the same time. Im not working but I do quite well shopping again for the day with my daughters who are professional shoppers let me tell you. I do sometimes take my cane as back up if I know its going to be a long day but thats all. Like you I do get disapointed sometimes at the progress for 4 months. Up and downstairs is still a struggle for me yet you do that at work every day. I know for sure my flexion is not 130 so good for you there Sorry to hear about your experience with the police and your car. Never a nice thing to go thru. I hope you get on well with your appt with your OS. I am in NO hurry whatsoever to have the second knee done. I will watch your progress with interest. Take Care Marianne. Not at all. Once you have them in situ, you won't know the difference as all knee implants are pretty much the same.

Brownie51 there is a lot of misunderstanding about this. People get it confused with MIS hips that can be done through 2-3" incisions but the same is not true of total knees. It's only partially true with unicondylars. What needs to be taken into account here is the history of the incision. Back around the 1980s we used to make 12-14" incisions because we didn't know any better! Naturally they came up with huge amounts of complications like adhesions galore and infections because of over exposed internal tissues and such. Over the years, we learned to make the incisions smaller and smaller until come time of the millennium, surgeons found they can actually get quite adequate exposure through a 4" incision although that depends upon the size of the leg! A large one might need a 6-7" incision. But this is the MIS approach and the reason you can't find any specific information about it is because it's become the routine thing to do. In fact, the most surgeons (of my acquaintance) will refer to the change is by calling it a "reduced incision" which is exactly what it is.

I suggest you adjust the wording of your enquiry to "how long will my incision be".

When I saw her post Jo your name didn't appear in blue, so it appeared to me that the tag had not gine thru correctly. Sorry for trying to help if it did.

Hello Friends
I had to cancel my appointment this past week because there was a problem at work so that I could not leave. It was frustrating but the office was so sweet about it and rescheduled me for April 9th. I don't care what happens at work I am going to my appt. Then the 23rd I will see Spitzer. This is sure interesting about Los Angeles and Orange County drs not doing the MIS or my not being able to find one! I would love to fly up to Washington but that is just not practical. I watched those videos Randi before my surgery and thought your doc was wonderful.
We (dog and I) had more excitement, besides more car breakins we had a home robbery in my neighborhood on Tuesday afternoon with a chase which ended with a crash. A couple, she mans the getaway car and the man goes into the house, during the day. Neighbors figured out what was going on and followed him carefully until the police came. I had come home tired from work, plopped down on bed, fell asleep, and realized a helicopter was circling over head, really low, well the guy crashed just about 10 houses down from me. There were about 20 police cars literally, one end of my street was blocked off becasue they thought there were 3 robbers so they didn't let anyone out. The other end had the smashed car. Lovely! So robbers go in houses during the day and cars at night.
Anyway, I've been making a list of stuff to make my home more secure. Car is in the garage now so that's okay. More neighbors are joining the NEXTDOOR blog thing and so more of us are paying attention to what is going on in our neighborhood.
My left knee is really hurting even though I am in bed. I have a lidocaine patch on both knees. I hope they work tonight. Shopped yesterday then lots of stuff around the house today so I am really sore. I know you are all in the same boat but boy it really wears you down!!!
Hope everyone is getting a bit of sunshine and spring. Today was beautiful.

Make sure you lock your car in your garage too. My friend had her car broken into in the car. Both her and her mom have a bad habit of,leaving their purses in the car so she had her purse stolen. I am thinking of getting an alarm on my house. As soon as my deputy son moves out I am going to do that. He keep saying he is getting am apartment with his girlfriend in the next few months but we will see.
Good luck with your appt on the 9th. It is frustrating to,have to wait when you are in pain. Suppose to be a beautiful few days.

Oh Marianne.... It is bad enough to have achey knees keeping us awake without the added stress of living in a targeted neighbourhood. :sad: ....
Message to thieves... Our stuff is not for you.... Get off the drugs.... Get a job.... Buy your own stuff!!!!:hissy:
I hope work settles down so you don't have to miss another appointment. I am finding the same things when I get active... tightness from swelling and achiness at night so I can't find a comfortable position to sleep.... It can be weird the way it can be sore on nights when I haven't done much that I can think of and sometimes is not bad on nights after I have been busy and on it all day. Go figure! :rolleyes:

HEY MARIANNE, Its your birthday????? My invite must have got lost in the post :heehee: HAPPY BIRTHDAY Hope you had a nice relaxing day. Havent heard from you in so long. I know things change when you return to work. Not a lot of time to be on the forum. I really miss seing your name pop up tho as we had our surgeries almost at the same time. Hope you are progressing well and not having any recovery problems. My ROM is RUBBISH but Im try to improve it. This is what you get when you dont see a physio for months on end. Happy Birthday from me too, Marianne. So sorry to hear about all the unwelcome excitement in your neighbourhood. I would say that now everyone is more vigilant, that potential burglars/car thieves will avoid your area like the plague now.
