BossK's recovery thread

I was a Disney World in March. You can rent scooters from an off property company. They had one waiting for me at the hotel and I turned it in the day we left. I used it around the resort and Disney Springs (my bad left knee). You may want to consider using transport at the airport because you don't want to be in pain during your trip.

How funny we'll be in the same place. US is great. We went there last sept and my Harry potter head kids loved it. I recommend a scooter vs a wheelchair bc it will be tiring for someone to have to push you all day. We're close enough to drive, but I'm nervous about that. Lucky my hubs has the tiniest bladder on earth, so we'll make a million stops to move my leg around.

How did you get It from your resort to disney springs. We are doing that one day and it's making me nervous for the walking. I'd consider a rental for that.

We stayed at Coronado Springs, it is a huge resort and the scooter made getting around easier. The Disney buses have a drop down ramp and a spot on every bus for a scooter to be secured. I reserved one from Disney World Scooter Rental because it's a hike to the bus loading zones. It came in handy shopping at Disney Springs, and just getting around the resort. I had never used a scooter before, but I wouldn't have been able to do the trip without it. My friends walked 9+ miles one day, over 25,000 steps.

I just drove the scooter into our room and plugged it in every night. I called when we were on the Magical Express and the scooter was waiting for me at the resort. They have a Facebook page, but aren't affiliated with Disney World. The lines in the parks for scooters, wheel chairs and strollers were long, but I just zipped on by!

Great tips! I think we asked the hotel already, and they didn't seem like they had one to rent. We are calling the park Monday to see how we can get ahold of one. I thought the scooter would be better than a wheelchair too. It's HP World for my Potterhead kid, too! We will be there from the 28th to June 3, I believe!

The resorts don't have them there, but you're allowed to drive them anywhere. Disney Scooter Rental delivered it to me at the resort and picked it up. It was much better than a wheelchair. You can get them in the parks, but you have to turn them in at the end of the day. That would've made Disney Springs difficult.

That is the plan, plus making friends with the kitchen staff for unlimited bags of ice! :)

I managed a mile long, very slow walk the other day, but ended up paying for it for two days. I'm guessing zero impact activities, and continued leg raises are my best bet. Also reserved my Orlando scooter- I hope it has flames on it. [emoji5]

Woah. A mile. I walked through my daughters school and back and my leg was buckling on the way out. No stamina in these muscles.

That's what I'm trying to get back. I don't have it yet. Even finally getting to church yesterday, and keeping my foot up nearly the entire time, wore me out.

But, didn't it feel great finally getting back again?! That was a huge step in my recovery.

Sounds like you're doing really well - as long as you stay out of the ODIC, :)
Here's to continued healing!

:no-fin: I'm not surprised a mile brought on pain at a month post op. I'll nudge your memory...Activity progression for TKRs

Ah, yes. I needed that reminder. :) I am just so anxious to get back to it, and so sad I've missed out on all the student activity these last 4+ weeks. My goal is to at least visit the school on the last day as its only a half day, and the tradition is a talent show, then waving to the busses as they roll out.:)

I had planned on going in to visit my class and have a read-aloud. It happened, but about a month later than I had planned. I'd want to go in the last day too, but hopefully it won't take too much out of you.
