BossK's recovery thread

I hope today is awesome for everyone. I'm recovering from two long days of my Inlaws "helping" and enjoying a quiet day at home ALONE! At least until, 3 when the kids get home from school.

I'm sorry yesterday was a rough one. I think the stress of not being in my classroom and worrying about my students coupled with recovery had me on edge often during recovery, so that could certainly be adding to your emotions. The guilt I felt as a teacher experience was overwhelming.

That is so true! It just compounds everything, especially when it was quite clear that the two substitutes that I had did nothing to actually teach the novel that I left them to. I keep telling myself that these kids are going to go to high school no matter what so I can't keep beating myself up.
Pain is a little higher today, but at least mentally I feel so much better.

Haha! I agree with you 100%! My dad wanted to come and help, but he would've been more trouble than he was help!

Sometimes, actually a lot of times, we are better off without 'help'! I remember trying to explain where something was when I was in that awful brain fog. It was easier and less stressful to just get up and get it myself! And when I got grouchy, I just got grouchy at me! Nobody's feelings were hurt! And the only one I got mad at was me!

I feel bad for those of you who have jobs where they truly do miss you and notice you are gone. I'm a flight attendant and as long as there is a butt in the jump seat for every flight no one notices I'm gone! We are a different work group where if you don't see someone for months you assume you just haven't crossed paths, then you find out they've been on a medical for 6 months!

I'm taking my time recovering and no one is pushing me to return. That's a nice feeling.

That does sound different, and stressful! I always assumed flight attendants were teamed up and were assigned flights as a group. Teaching is something a lot of folks make assumptions about too. :)
What did you have done and how long ago?

@BossK. It is a very different job. We each have our own schedule and we may fly with someone often or fly with them only once and never see them again. It's very flexible and taking time off is no big deal. I've been flying for over 38 years and they always say it's not a job it's a lifestyle!

On March 20th I had a revision from. RPKR that I had in 2011 to a full TKR. Had some arthroscopic surgery on it in between. Hoping this is the final one!!

I need my other one done and will definitely go to a full TKR when the time comes. Right now I can't even think about doing that!

@flyaway79 I was warned the second knee would be harder, especially in a 6 month time period, but I honestly don't know if that's true. I am 49 years old and my doctor told me that he could do a partial knee replacement and see me in five years, or he could do a full knee replacement and see me in 25 years. I don't teach math but that sounded pretty good to me!

My first knee replacement was a PKR. I was fortunate, because it lasted for 11 years before I had to have it revised to a TKR.
When my other knee needed replacing, I went straight to a TKR. I chose one operation, instead of two.

It's nice to have such an honest and forthcoming OS. There aren't too many of them that talk much! Mine's included in that bunch. No bedside manner, but a wonderful surgeon! After reading how pkr sometimes have to revised to a tkr in a few years, I would have chosen a total, too, if given that choice.

@Celle When the time comes for the my left it will definitely be a TKR. Not messing around with another PKR. Mine was never right.

I think most OSs lack great bedside manner, but mine is fairly cool. My first TKR, I was panic-stricken. When he arrived and saw me in tears, he asked, "How are you doing?" I said, "I'm a little nervous." His reply? "Well I'm not." That got a little laugh out of me. Then the second time, I was coming out of the restroom, gown on and carrying my own IV bags, saying, "Come on, people! Let's get this show on the road!" It's amazing what a little humor and a lot of experience can teach you between surgeries.

Passed the 3 and 1/2 week mark, and am at 124 degrees ROM. Taking it much easier, which allowed me to get off of pain meds for the most part. Just take them at night to help reduce pain from the day's activities. I drove myself around for the first time yesterday, and finally went out to dinner. I have a trip coming up at the end of the month, though I know I won't be walking all over the place, but I am trying to get to a point where I won't be in agony at the end of the day.
I hope everyone else is also having a good week!

Wow! 124 at 3.5 weeks! You must be icing and elevating a lot!

Staying off of it more than anything, and doing far less aggressive PT. [emoji41]

Where are you going Boss? We just booked a trip to Orlando for the end of the month. No theme parks, just mostly hanging at the resort with friends, eating at a few of our favorite disney restaurants and trying to relax a bit. I'm nervous about the long drive, but I like having something to look forward to and plan for. We're about on the same timeline.

The Bonesmart way really works. I just wish more people would take advantage of it.

Wow! We are going to Universal studios as a surprise for my daughter, who is headed to high school next year. The park apparently has wheel chairs and scooters, so we need to rent one as last time we were there we walked 11 miles in one day! I'm a tad nervous about the flight, but my doc said just to wear the compression stockings and get up and move around as much as possible. Not sure I'll be able to go on rides, but that's okay. When was your surgery?

No kidding! A friend is asking me about how long she is going to be down, because she just had gastric bypass has gotten really into working out, but I told her it's not something you rush. You get told pretty quickly when you've overdone it. Although I did manage a slow mile walk today! Now I'm down and icing for the rest of the day. Off of pain meds until the nighttime. Go, me!
