I'm still around, check in here usually every day.
guess i can call this my 5 month update!

Playin hockey twice a week, still working on conditioning,
speed, agility etc, but, it's better. If only i could get past
these back issues, but hopefully as i get stronger and lose
some of this extra weight i'll be ok.
but it's great that i can play hockey on a saturday morning, then
come home and shovel the porches/sidewalks, or other tasks,
and i don't end up in all that pain by the end of the day. things
are coming along, slight pain in my right hip if i do some deep bending
over, especially if i move something heavy like that.

winter just doesn't want to give up ! i have not ridden much snowmobile,
took a ride 2 saturdays ago over to a local place to watch some college
basketball and have lunch. but i have been snowblowing with the tractor
3-4 times a week the past month, not always a ton of snow, but enough that
needs to be taken care of, which means shoveling the decks and sidewalks also.

here are some pics around the yard i took yesterday.... last year a this time we
were in the 80's!

Had my 6 mos checkup today, everything still doing well. I did get another copy
of my old xrays (lost the first disc while moving)
here's a comparison of old and new to see the old hardware and
now the current hardware!

wow how time flies!
i was 7 months last week, and i have to say life is good!
i'm able to play hockey twice a week (when i have time)
and starting to feel like my old (old) self. i seem to have no
issues from the surgery, just getting the body back in shape,
but it's coming along slowly. I've lost a little weight, and taken on
some large yard projects that make me think maybe i'm trying to
act like i'm 30 again! but it's a great feeling to be able to work had
at work while it's busy now, and go home and work around the house,
and feel good doing it! if i get sore (which i did this past weekend) it's in
other places, my back, arms, hands , shoulders etc. but the hips have
been great.
here's a couple pictures of the back patio we started 2 weeks ago, and
we layed all the brick this past weekend (memorial day weekend) on sunday
and monday. almost done with the brick, then onto the sitting walls around
the perimeter. it's going to be beautiful!
22,000 lbs of bricks, and i layed each and every one!
(had many helpers bringing them to me though)

here's a pic or 2

Dutch, what a wonderful report. It is so great to hear that you feel as you say old (old) self and I totally understand. You are at 7 months ME at 7 weeks but I feel great. Therapist told me yesterday to start throwing horseshoes. So last night I tossed 20 shoes without walking. Tonight if the rain holds out I am going to throw 20 but walking and I'll increase that daily. Boy did it feel great! Keep in touch as you continue to progress.

Karen I look forward to throwing a few this summer too, we usually camp
at place with a nice pit, and it got tough to play the past couple summers.

good luck with your progress. just don't over do it,, i would imagine bending
over to pick them up could be an issue if you overdo it also,, not to mention
bending and twisting a certain way , so be careful when you do!

Dutch picking up the horseshoes are not an issue as I use a 24" pick-up hook. Twisting should not be a problem as that is not part of my delivery. I'm not sure how far you are from South New Berlin but that is the site for the New York State Championships Labor Day weekend. Folks for all over NY State compete as far east as Amityville, Newburgh and New Rochelle to as far west as Forestville, Dunkirk to the north Hogansburg and everywhere in between. And I do promise not to over do anything.

cnydutch!!!! GREAT update. And WOW---that brick patio is a work of art---now I know who to call :heehee: . These man-made hips are just real miracles---so glad you now have your life back and it's all good. You'll be an inspiration to a lot of our new hippies.

Take care and keep us updated. We care. [Bonesmart.org] bilateral THR 10/22/12

Thanks Judy!
of all the parts that hurt after that project, i have to say the
hips were the least..
i really noticed it today in my hamstrings when i bent over
to pick something up!
and my hands seem weak, that's a lot of bull work, and since then
i have dropped or spilled 2 drinking glasses!
it felt great to work like that, i used to be so active doing stuff
around the house that i forgot how good it feels to accomplish
something like this

about 10 years ago i built an addition to a house i had on a lake,
added 2 bedrooms and a bathroom in a summer, did most all
of it except for the digging, foundation, and sheetrock. i would
have never been able to do that last summer... but this year watch
out!!
might come up with some other projects,,,, like that back deck,
i think it needs an overhaul to improve it's look as it's going to have
stairs coming down onto the new patio!

Dutch, what a great looking patio! It is so good to hear you are routinely skating and now starting the more intensive honey do's! You have been a great inspiration to all of us hippies (both single and bilats alike). So glad you are feeling and doing so well! Congrats! :yay:

thanks Dede,
another busy weekend, got a lot of yardwork and gardening done that has been put off because
of the other projects. (ran out of product)
hopefully next weekend we will have the wall material here for the patio, and we can get
that built so we can start to overhaul the deck and build some stairs from the deck
down to the patio! lots to do!

dede we're under water here, had so much rain there's been no time to finish... will get back
to it saturday, then i'm told no work Sunday, having a family cookout for father's day....

we made a little progress last sunday (rained out on saturday)

This is going to look wonderful Dutch... Hope the rain holds off for Fathers Day :)

We had some rain yesterday (father's day) but it wasn't a total washout. I had to cook a bit
in some light rain but after dinner it let up and we got outside for a little bit. We managed
to get quite a bit done friday nite and saturday (had nice weather to work in) so i took Sunday off
and enjoyed the day with family, although we did put on a nice party for about 18 of us.
cooked up some awesome ribs, chicken, hot dogs, veggie burgers, and a lot of sides and salads.
here's the latest progress on the patio, useable now!

Absolutely awesome patio!!!!! Sure would like to zap it to Bottom's Hollow (my two acres of heaven) and have use of it myself. You did a great job!

thanks Judy and Karen,
it's getting there, been slacking a bit lately, had some other commitments
this weekend, but we had a nice little party last nite and we get a lot of
compliments..
now we are starting some of the landscaping around the patio and the
rest of the back of the house... always something!

have been battling rain, 12 inches in the past 2 weeks, some areas have had
terrible flooding, we are high on a hill so we seem to stay ok.
we had out of town guests this weekend, so we pushed to get some
of the finish work done around the patio and house, along with building
the stairs coming off the deck. i feel good, working hard, great to be able
to take on a project like this, would have never attempted it last summer
here are a couple pics from this morning before our party
