:happydance: A matched set! Well done on getting your date Stan.

Getting nervous now, less than a week til me new hip. Great weather though for getting over it :)

Hang in there Stan. I am five weeks out on the second...it isn't a picnic, for sure, but it has been easier just because I knew what to expect and was able to deal with the sleep problems and slow start more easily since I expected them. Sure dont miss the discomfort and energy loss due to pain. You will be glad when it is all over!

stan794 I'll be with you in spirit. Mine is the same day. I'll be glad for the hour or so nap since I live 90+ minutes from the hospital and have to be there at 5:15 AM. Hope to see you soon on this spot.

Having second thoughts about this now :(
Had no choice with right side because of AVN.
Does osteo always get worse and worse or can it get to a point and not go any further. If you can live with the pain of course, if I'm being stupid just say :)

stan794, It sounds as though you are going through some of the same "bargaining" and denial that so many of us have experienced, as you re-think whether to get your second hip replaced. I will let others will medical training answer the question of whether arthritis "Always" gets worse and worse. But even if there are cases where it reaches a specified level of horribleness, is that what you want for yourself? It isn't going to get better, and the pain changes your whole personality and everything you can expect from life. I think you deserve better. Doctors are not too quick to tell you that a THR is needed, because it isn't that easy to get approval for the surgery. You must have a documented need. Others will share more thoughts, but I think you are going through some of the normal second-guessing that most of us experience. I hope that you can achieve a sense of inner certainty and confidence and go forward toward a real fix for the problem.

Thank you for that, you are right of course. I over think everything and tend to look on the "what if it goes wrong" all the time. I have had a great couple weeks, minimal pain meds, no limp everyone asking why are you having the op lol, typical.

stan794 - this is so typical! My last couple days before surgery were great - pain free. However the weekend before that I was awake most of the night with horrible pain and it was enough to make me remember why I was going this route. I think many of us go through the "is this really necessary?" thing before surgery. The only thing that I keep thinking is that I would rather do this now, while I still have some good bone and muscle than to wait until both are so far gone that it will take months and months and months to recover. It is not an easy decision but I think you will be glad you did. I had the same questions. The thing is that so many people did not see my grimace when they turned and walked away and I had to figure out if I was going to be able to move from the spot I was in. We do tend to put on a brave face and carry on!

Less than 12 hours before I go into ROH Birmingham now, see you on the other side.

stan794, good luck we will be here waiting for that all important first update.. Matching pair then :)

stan794 I'm stopping by to wish you the best for tomorrow's surgery. It will be nice once you get it behind you and you can then have total healing. Be looking to read your post-op adventure on the other side.

stan794 Wishing you smooth sailing, Stan! You will be so happy and relieved when you emerge on the other side of the process!

Doubts are normal. I was second guessing myself just today as I was walking around the grocery store......Hey I'm not doing too badly. Maybe I will try to walk normally instead of with a locked knee. Thirty seconds later I was seriously limping to my car.
I am probably in a similar situation to yourself as my other leg is going and since I stopped physio I can feel both sides seizing up. I don't know how far behind my good leg is but I am thinking it is likely inevitable given the course the other one took. Just think though.....two flexible hips.....heaven

Looking forward top hearing how you are doing how you are doing Stan :)

Thanks for all your kind words. At home now and doing fine although this feels a little more painful than last time :(
Had a spinal and twight sedation, ace until it wears off :) Ill keep you all up to date with my progress.

Terrific that you made it through to the other side :yahoo: I see you have been on this site since Sept 2011 so I am sure you know this but.....
REST
ELEVATE
ICE
and take your PAINKILLERS on time.
You are a guy so you can skip the chocolate with your meds :)

Well first night at home done, it's great to be in your own bed :) great to get a full 8 hours, the ward I was on had 3 chaps snoring for England :) so no chance of a kip. I had a pretty good hospital experience apart from they were a little slow getting the pain meds to us :( once the physios found out they made some noise :)
