Hi Mike,

Just a note on using a treadmill.
A Physio/Trainer/Guru told me once that they are actually pretty poor for what most people use them for..... jogging! The reason is that studies have shown that you don't really run, but rather bounce up and down whilst the belt moves under you.

He did say however that walking with a decent incline (2-5%) is the best, and to his mind the only way to use them.

Hope this helps.

Charlie

I can say what a joy it is to sit down and put your socks on then your shoes and tie the shoe laces up with out it hurting.:yay: Well I am on the other side now, apart from the obvious what am I going to have to watch that I can't do any more? I guess 21Km marathon is out of the question now.(joke):th_heehee:

Once your OS releases you from your restrictions there is not much you can't do Mike. My only restrictions were no bungee jumping or parachuting :th_heehee:.

It does take some time for the stiffness to ease. But I think you will find you can do more and more each week. One year out - the sky is the limit!

Mike

you have progressed really well.

Doesn't it make you feel good when even small milestones are achieved - like tieing shoelaces! Something we previously take for granted.

The small things in life can make us happy!

Hi Mike

Noticed your thread about the sofa didn't the hospital provide you with a thick cushion to lift you on the sofa, To be honest that wasn't that comfortable either.
Have said to a couple of people before that to get a high back chair like the elderly have in nursing homes gives your back better support if you can get one.

Billy.

Week 8
Hi and a Merry Christmas to you all.
Well I have been back at work for 1 week and doing well, my butt has been bit sore at the end of the day but the rest ok. My other leg has been a little sore but I am hoping it's just because I have been favouring it while the other was healing.
I have not had a chance to sit down and read every one's posts. Today is my day off so will have a good read. I guess most people will be off work now and getting into the Christmas spirit, down in this part of the world NZ, we will be one of the first to see it in.
This is the first time in 3 years I have Christmas day off, looking forward to it ( I work for the police) sadly working on boxing day. I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and get lots of presents.
Keep posting love to keep up with all.
:xmasmore::xmastree:

Merry Christmas to you too Mike! May this one and those to follow be very Happy and Healthy!

It's great to hear your first week back at work went so well!! Enjoy the time off during the holidays and Merry Christmas and happy recovering! :xmasmore:

Enjoy your well earned Christmas day off Mike. Your job is one of the toughest there is. Hope you have a great day!

Hey Kiwi Mike

Enjoy Christmas day off buddy. What is your schedule for New Years Eve? Sandy xx

Hi I hope every one had a nice Christmas, it's great to watch all the kids rip into their presents. They all had a water balloon fight, so you can imagine every one got wet.
Well it's boxing day here 22 Deg C and clear day. Hip is really good, bit sore at night and still some swelling at night not bad. My walks are getting further, up to 3 Km and the hills are getting a lot easier.

Well I hope you all had a good Christmas. I have been back at work for two weeks and I have noticed I have to watch myself. Your body has taken a hard time a I notice the fitness is taking a while to come back. I find I can walk a lot faster and the hills are getting easier. I did get out of my car a little quick and hit my leg and it was ouch. My utility belt also rubs on my hip which is annoying too.( the radio is on my left side)

Hi Kiwi Mike

You sound like you have coped even though it has been a big energy drain.. You have tough job that's is for sure.

Are you working New Years Eve?

I must admit I have a desk job and I am concerned how I will go sitting there all day... But yours is far more active and on the go.

You are doing great with the walking, I think I recall you may have used a treadmill in the early days, is that correct?
Did you just walk once a day on it and for how long?

Great to hear from my friend across the ditch :) take care.

Thanks Sandy, no I still don't use the tread mill just go out and pound the foot path's Working on new years day but on early shift so will be home to see the new year in.The heavens have opened up at the moment, rain, rain, rain.

We can at least see the sun... sorry you are getting so much rain.

Sorry that you have to pound those pavements. Is your beat mostly flat?

Hi Sandy, Auckland is quite hilly and where I live have the advantage of which walks I can go on, we also live near the sea so can go on a bit of a bush walk too.

Fantastic Mike, I know how good for the soul walking outside is... I will miss my beach house.

Pounding pavements in the suburbs is just not the same!

I hope the rain has subsided?

Well happy New Year every body, I hope you all welcomed the New Year in some way.
I have been busy at work and not enough time to read all the new post's coming in.
Walking well and just about lost my limp, not quiet. I have noticed I am getting a lot better in standing on one leg and not fearing I am going to fall over
One thing I do notice, if I sit for too long I can feel my new hip joint ( feels like it's poking out, but it's not). Does any one else find this?
