Congratulations @gullimac , you've done it - Excellent. And I knew you would do so well. And - writing so soon after the operation. Great.
I sympathize with you about the nasty 4-hour wait in recovery. I also had to wait so long and stay on my back in the same position - for opposite reasons: Blood pressure low, they had to stabilize my blood circulation - and filled me up with liquid from an intravenous drip. Got bored to death. Asked the nurse whether she couldn't at least get me something to read. She said I could sleep but I wasn't sleepy. Also got hungry. Did you get hungry during that waiting period?
I wish you a lovely time and enjoy your new hip.
Hugs - Constanze

@gullimac - all great news. The first walk seemed like a long one, BUT don't they all get easier?! I'm also inclined to hold my breath when anxious or concentrating - that's a weird thing we have in common. Notice the pain has gone where it used to hurt and now it's a muscle thing going on instead. Over the days I have found this improved by degrees. Remember the gradually INCREASED pain preOp by comparison? Cannot overemphasise the ice mantra. I followed it like something possessed and am firmly convinced that is why my swelling reduced so swiftly, which enabled much much easier movement. So happy you're through surgery - so much to look forward to now!

Woo-hoo!
:yahoo:
Good to see you here so soon - and with sense of humour intact!

@Constanze I had to ask for some pain meds towards the end of my wait and they were unable to give them through my IV at that point. So they brought me some applesauce and crackers so I didn't have to take a pill on an empty stomach. The nurse also let me have some ginger ale.

The other crazy part of my day was the hospital bed. The bed I ended up with in pre-op through getting my room for overnight was very narrow and pulled badly to one side when rolled. Everyone kept apologizing about me being squished into that tiny bed. Even one nurse said she had tried to hide that bed so it wouldn't get used several times but it always shows back up. Up in my room I apparently got a bed style they didn't use much anymore. It was much longer and the controls were different according to the nurses.

Hitting that tired but not able to sleep phase. Going to try and stay up for a while. Went ahead and put back in my dentures for the first time since before surgery. I had just stayed with my glasses since the surgery too, so I just popped my contacts back in as well. Both make me feel a little more like me again, which is good.

@gullimac - You did it! Yay for you! :yay: Sorry you had the uncomfortable wait in recovery. But it sounds like you're feeling more like yourself now. I hope you can get some sleep. I also had the dizziness and the tired but unable to sleep business. Hope that eases up soon.
Congrats! :yes!:

@gullimac ask for something to help you sleep if you need it. I was totally wired post both THRs and really had a problem sleeping. Watched TV for hours hoping I would get bored enough to doze off.

I've been rooting for you!!! Am so glad to read your report. Hate that you had that awful, narrow bed. Am also so impressed that you're posting - not only on your thread - but in response to other thread as well. Good going. Will you be released today?

Wow @gullimac ! You'll be dancing soon at the rate you're going!! So happy to hear your report :) Me next! Continued vibes of strength and comfort coming your way :loveshwr:

Oh and I see you're in Atlanta! Well, I'm just up 575 a bit. My surgery will be in the tiny Murphy Medical Center, Murphy NC

If all goes well you WILL go home. I don't think doctor's want us to stay in the hospital even one hour longer than absolutely necessary. Too much chance of infection from "stuff" lurking in hospitals. ICE! Start icing and keep icing. Be ready for the energy drain too. I am over 2-weeks out and anything I do gives me that energy drain feeling. I do a few things and I'm up walking about making a bed or folding clothes and I get the "shakes" when my energy plummets. Slow and steady now @gullimac and you'll be basking in the sunshine and ready to get on with life within a few weeks. :chillpill: --julie

Congratulations @gullimac! Sounds like you are doing really well. Once you get home, it'll be much better for you...no constant interruptions and you can set up your own eat, sleep and walking schedule. Best of luck for a smooth and rapid recovery.

I got home about 30 minutes ago. The steps at the house were not as bad as I thought they would be. Gonna settle the in a try to grab a cat nap while my wife goes to grab my prescriptions. Glad to be back in my lift recliner chair (easily the best Present I have bought myself in many years).

@gullimac - wow, wow and wow. You are amazing and an inspiration. I went to the joint class this AM and found myself getting all worked up again. You and others make me feel like this is something I can do. Keep up the good work.

I did well on going up the steps even with being partial weight bearing. However I still haven't gotten my nerve to go down those steps. I still walk down the wheel chair ramp. I'm weird though. O.o

So glad your home, now comes the healing... Prayers for a quick and complete healing..
