I had a right total hip replacement in July 2018 (which went very well). I just got back on the forum today because I am scheduled for left total hip replacement on April 21. (Lucky me
) I waited too long for my first hip surgery. I was on over the counter pain reliever that no longer worked. Celebrex made no difference in the pain. I could not stand for more than 10 minutes in the kitchen preparing dinner. Walking caused lots of groin pain and a limp. After my hip surgery, the groin pain disappeared and now I am as active as before the problem started. I said to myself at the time, "If my other hip starts having problems, no way am I waiting until this level of pain to deal with it." I wasted a couple of years being in pain and limiting fun activities before my first surgery.
So when my surgeon (1 year post surgery visit) said I was developing arthritis on the left side in November, 2019- I told him I would contact him when I started experiencing problems. I am not in awful pain, but it is bothersome when walking for exercise (symptoms started in March 2020). I know it will only get worse. So I have scheduled surgery for April 21. My advice is- don't wait until you are in excruciating pain. Once you start limping, it will affect your other muscles which have to compensate. That will only cause more problems. It's normal to second guess yourself. But you will be so glad when you are recovered and can fully participate in activities without thinking about your hip. Wishing you all the best!
