Hi Almost and congratulations on your new hip and coming through the surgery with flying colors! But listen up, I,too, was beating the LLD to death after my THR, asking everyone to check it out.

It will take a good 3 to 4 monts to settle as Jaycey has said so you might as well forget about it. I tried a lift which only ended up thowing muscles out of whack so don't do that. You must be patient.

Right now I don't give it a thought and there is probably still a minimal difference, but not noticable to anyone but me. Hang in there, the journey has just begun. You will be pleasantly surprised in a few months, believe us...

Thx so much for the comments on LLD and going back to work. My boss will not be getting anymore updates on my progress! Just b/c I can walk around a bit doesn't mean I can go back to work--I can't even put my own pants on yet, or drive, or sit for more than 45 min. I'm saying this to myself to get rid of that guilty feeling! It's like the enthusiasm of progress makes me feel like I SHOULD do x, y and z. And when friends come over and see that I'm not bedridden, I imagine they are wondering what all the fuss is about. Maybe this has to do with being young and everyone says "oh, you'll bounce back in no time." Anyway, I will definitely give myself what I've planned to and won't go back any sooner.

Good for you! Don't let them influence what you know you need to do for yourself. They aren't the ones who went through what you did.

Dorothy

Hi....I didn't mean to go on my soap box about the work thing, it's just interesting how people respond and yes friends too are funny how they react if you are moving around. I'm still learning your true friends will love on you, offer lots of TLC plus have tons of compassion and support you and not offer smart pant comments. That's my short 10 cent feed back tonight! I'm thrilled your doing well this is the best news!, xxooxx

The truth is that no one can really relate to what is involved with joint replacement surgery recovery unless they have been through it. I agree that your best bet is to just not discuss your progress with those who might take that as a cue that you are just fine and "milking" your recovery. Even those who love us can sometimes be that way. God bless 'em, they are just clueless!

But....your BoneSmartie family understands. So brag away to us about how well you're doing! And then take all the leave you can get from the stresses of work!

Almost

If you read my posts you will find how much I fretted over going back to work. Fortunately I could work from home and did so after about the first week. At about 2 months (early December) I started going in a couple times a week (I live a little over 30 miles from my office) and next week will probably be my first full week back in the office. I don't know how others manage to get back so quickly.

Leg Length - oh, a sore subject for me. After my knee replacement I noticed some difference and after my hip replacement even more difference. I'm currently at 3 months post op from my hip and I don't notice any improvement but I'm going with the experts here and giving it some more time to settle down. Keep in touch and I'll let you know how I'm doing.

Best of luck to you. Heal well. Stay active - as permitted.

almost, we have had several comments from Smarties on expectation of friends and family once you are up and moving about. They seem to expect you to return to normal (whatever that is) immediately if you are up and dressed and starting to do things for yourself. What they don't realise is it take tons of energy to heal from the op. Then there is the energy used to stay within restrictions and start to get mobile.

There is no such things as "what you should do". Let the healing continue and don't listen to all that noise.

Hi everyone,
Just wanted to check in for some reassurance. Yesterday I was out walking and my foot on the operated side snagged a bit on the street. It was very painful. All I can say to describe it is that it felt that a little sac got squished in the front of my hip at the crease which sent an electric shock through the whole joint. I was able to continue on and have been resting, icing and using ibuprofen, but it's still sore enough that I am back to using my hands to lift my leg to get out of bed, etc. I think it'll be okay but does this sound serious at all? Maybe I should skip PT today? It was news to me that things are so fragile and unstable in there still!

Sorry about your tripping. As you are just under 4 weeks out soreness from a jolt like that isn't unusual. You are doing the right thing icing and taking pain meds. You might want to skip PT if you are too sore. Falls and trips happen - just give yourself a bit of time to recover.

Hello Almost.....

Ouch!! Im sorry that is also very scary too. Hope it stops hurting soon!

Sending you good wishes,

Sarah

Thanks you guys! I called the PT lady and she said to come in so she can do ultrasound on it and other things to calm it down. It's raining here today--I'm all freaked out about slipping now. I'll just have to be extra careful.

Oh thats sounds great. I hope she was able to help ya. Yes please just take your time and watch your step!

This is good news!

Be careful and watch your footing thats the scariest part of post surgery while healing is the thought of falling.

xxooxx

Ditto with Sarah...

I just posted a near miss on my own thread with uneven pavements.. They are a worry.. Good luck with the PT take it easy..

If it had been serious you wouldn't have been able to walk home!

Almostready.....could you please add a signature to your profile so that it is easier to know when your surgery was done? That really helps a LOT!! Here are instructions.

Hi,
I have a signature but I don't think it posts when I write something from my iPhone. It does seem to pop up when I post from my computer. I'll try creating it again from the phone and see what happens...

That's true. It's one of the iPhone quirks.....no signature appears.

Hi everyone,

I seem to have developed a new pain. When I put full weight on my operated leg, I feel a burning sensation in the front of my thigh, veering towards the groin, just below the crease. It is in the same area where I feel weak when I try to do leg lifts. It doesn't hurt if I'm just sitting or lying not doing anything. Does this sound like iliopsoas syndrome? I'm about 4 and 1/2 weeks out. I wonder if it's just a random recovery pain. This area seems to have given me trouble the whole time in different ways since the surgery.

Thanks!
