Knee Infection* Adieu

Had my first post- surgery checkup yesterday. I was cleared for normal activities, including driving on day 10 following surgery.

The good karma fairies are blessing me for some reasons. This process is vastly different (and better) than the first implant procedure.

Just want to let others know that good results are possible. Cheers and best wishes to other patients …
Thanks for sharing an update. I am sure your words will be an encouragement and comfort to others in the future. I am happy to read how well you're doing, may it only get better!
Stay in touch and enjoy the weekend!
Thanks Layla,

Given my impatience it’s necessary to remember that, regardless of how i feel, it will take months to recover.

I also realize how important stretching and PT are. I can drift off course. I did my extension block this morning and it was painful.

I also get worried about my flexion, but I haven’t even started outpatient treatment yet. I hope it comes back to where I had it after first implant (95th percentile)

It will come, Jazzerguy, try not to worry, your doing great!
Two weeks and five days from revision implant. Knee is sore, as expected, but looks good. Started outpatient PT.

I have 130 degree knee flexion and scar looks amazing for my 5th surgery in 3 years.

Keep the faith!

That’s a great update! May it long continue!

By the way, I merged your newest thread with your original recovery thread, as we prefer that members in recovery have only one thread.

This benefits you because all your information is in one place, easy to find, and maintains a nice journal for you.

This also benefits our staff, as your information is all in one place, and we often go back through your thread for previous details, so we know what you‘ve been through which helps us advise you better.

So, please keep all your posts in this thread. If you’d like a new title, let us know what you want, and we’ll change it for you.

Many members bookmark their thread in their computer browser, so they can find it when they log on.
How can I find my threads and posts?

Best wishes on your continuing recovery!
Fifth surgery in three years... wow, you're a champ!
Remember who the boss is in PT. Go slow and easy.
Thanks for the update, you're doing great, Jazzerguy!
Had my native knee x rated on Thursday. It’s 14 degrees off center and bone on bone on the outside. Implant scheduled for May 3. Here we go again …

I'm so sorry you have to go through another surgery, but once that knee it fixed, you'll have two new knees. Which knee will this new knee be and will it be a total? I will add this information to your signature once we hear back from you.
Sorry to hear you need more surgery but it does sound as though it is necessary.
This one is my left knee. Thankfully, the right knee will have time to heal for two more months my new knee look beautiful, and I’m just struggling with quad re-engagement and IT band pain, which isn’t so unusual. My PT people tell me I’m kicking butt, so that’s a good sign. I look forward to less painful future.
I am happy to report that my physical therapist has a bone smart mindset. On Friday’s visit she said total knee replacements just don’t need that much. I had 0° extension two weeks ago. I now have 137° flexion.

Monday will be week six. I think I’m done with PT. My continuing challenges, quad muscles, and outside of knee, which inhibit my ability to walk down stairs. I am presuming that will get resolved in time.

Happy Saturday!
Thanks for the update. You're doing great and it's good to hear you realize your current limitations will improve over the next year and possibly even beyond. Up next...Left TKR! We'll be here for it all.
A great week to you! :)
:bicycle1: Wowza! That's a lot!
Hope you're not sore today. If so, remember your old pal -> :ice:
14 miles at 6 weeks is unheard of! I hope you'll be OK from all of that.
Uh oh. Hope I didn’t do anything wrong.
I suppose it’s been heard of now.

I do have a follow up question: I have a lot of continued popping grinding below the proximal incision at the top of my patella.

I guess it can last for awhile?
Today I am eight weeks post revision surgery. My knee looks great, but I continue to have stiffness and soreness. This isn’t a big surprise. The biggest obstacle right now is crepitus over the top of the knee. Lots of grinding and pain. It’s not so bad when I walk or bend the knee, but going downstairs is not fun.

The bigger challenge is that today, I’m also five weeks away from my second implant on the other knee, which is in constant pain since it’s bone on bone. It’s miraculous that it held out until I had the last knee as done, but the x-rays are not pretty.

I am resigned to minimal movement, as the complications from my bad knee, impact my hip, lower spine and posture. Not what the new knee needs…When you’re going through hell, keep going.

You'll notice that I have merged your newest thread with your original recovery thread. For several reasons, we prefer that you only have one recovery thread:
  • That way, you have all your information in one place. This makes it easier to go back and review your history before providing advice.
  • If you start new threads, you miss the posts and advice others have left for you in the old threads, and some information may be unnecessarily repeated
  • Having only one thread will act as a diary of your progress that you can look back on.
So please post any updates, questions or concerns about your recovery here.
