A few questions that I've been pondering:

At this time mine are not bothering me very much, so now I am doing the old..is it too soon thing. But I am not waiting. I have been on this roller coaster ride too long. Time to get on a different ride.

@Freaky freak
That's the thing, isn't it?
We waver (or at least I do, and now I know you do) between "Am I doing the right thing" and "I'm doing the right thing".
It's exhausting!
Today, I'm giving instructions to my co-workers on how to fill in the necessary blanks while I'm away and I'm thinking: "Do I REALLY need to do this?" then I read just last night's post above in this forum and I remember how crappy I felt last night and yesterday during my (very short) walk. Yes. I need to do this.
T-15 days. :)

Ha! Love this!
Yes...A different ride. One that's a bit smoother. I'm thinking a little more Mr. Toad's Wild Ride and a little less Space Mountain (for now).

Oh yes. I have been at the hospital all day today. My son had back surgery. I am waiting for him to get to his room so I can see him at least for a few before I find my way back to the car and drive home. I am exhausted. All I can think is next week this time I will be on the road to recovery.

Like you the remainder of the week is getting everyone up to speed at work . If that was not necessary I would just take off. Please Friday hurry up!

I find myself wishing that I had the same date as you, @Freaky freak .
I don't want to wait any longer!
Stairs have now become daunting.
On a good note: I stopped by my gym, where I have not been in MONTHS to let the owner know that I was COMING BACK. Now I've committed, right? :) All I have to do is get back to a point where I feel like a little cardio (or at the very least a little REHAB).

We are going to do the same thing. Renew starting in February so if I am up to walking we can go a couple of laps around the inside track and progress from there.

@Freaky freak Do hope your son is OK post op...will be thinking of you Friday ...it will soon be here and you will be on the road to recovery. Sending best wishes your way....I'm 13 weeks post op and doing nicely....none of that pain anymore!! Chrissie x

He did great now if he just listens to the Drs and not overdo. I will have my surgery on Tues 1/21. One week...WooHoo!

Not a bad day so far. I do notice that STAIRS are becoming a bit more daunting and my regular regimen of TYLENOL is becoming essential.
Two weeks from today cannot come soon enough.

I am down to Tylenol only as of today. Stopped all my other drugs except BP meds and cholesterol meds to make sure I am ok for surgery. 7 more days. I am beginning to repeat my self....it cannot come soon enough!!!

@DrToonz Greetings! I'm now your surgery partner! My op just got moved to 1/28 from 1/17 due to an infection. Hope you're hanging in there. Two more weeks!

Yay! Simultaneous hippies! I will find out on the 21st what time of day my surgery is. Then on the Other Side we can start comparing notes!

Another day down. This was a bad one. Not enough Tylenol I think. Anyway it's funny: I keep (yes again, yes, still) second guessing myself and wondering if my regularly increasing pain is just some kind of psychosematic justification for the BTHR. Like: is this really happening or is my mind filling is gaps of logic by causing pain when it wouldn't be if I hadn't scheduled surgery.
Does that even make any sense?
On top of that (or surrounding it, or under it. ..) is a childish excitement to have this OVER.

TODAY IS T-12 DAYS.

I can't wait. I'm scared. I'm hopeful.
I'd like to start a list of things I'll do BECAUSE I CAN later, post - surgery. Is that nuts?
I'm also worried that my DW will resent me for having her take care of me during recovery. I'm afraid I'll be perceived as if I'm milking the scenario. OK... is THAT crazy?
Enough BS (pun intended) for tonight. Tomorrow is another day.

@DrToonz ROFL :rotfl: - yes you do need the surgery, no it's not just psychosomatic, no your mind is not playing tricks on you, yes your hips are getting worse and will NOT magically get better! And no such thoughts are not crazy, in fact I think they're pretty normal for anyone facing major surgery and loss of body parts - been there, done that, and have got the scars to prove I didn't let myself talk myself out of having the surgery! And sure start a list of all the things you'll be able to do once surgery and recuperation is over - Number 1 is ...... walk without hip pain :) Number 2 is climb stairs without even thinking about it. Recovery period during which you need lots of DW time, attention, and extra TLC is actually very short - just a week or two. I think she probably will be delighted to help you out with that part rather than having to watch you be in pain every day.

Yup I also know the excitement of approaching surgery - I went around for days before hand humming songs like "Anticipation is making me wait" and "I'm so excited" and old Beatles song "Hippy hippy shake" .......:snork:

So do you have your house all set up for after surgery - elevated toilet seat? Comfy place to lie down to ice and elevate and snooze? Good books to read or easy sit down projects to do? Taped down or removed little throw rugs that are easy to trip over,? Got easy on and very comfortable things to wear? Got ice packs all set up? Are you practicing not bending at the waist - gotta mind those hip precautions (that IMO is the most awkward part of BTHR recuperation) .

You'll do just fine and we will be looking for you on the other side in just 12 days :friends:

DrToonz, totally normal thoughts. Yes, you probably could put up with it longer but if you say put it off another six months, that's six months of getting worse instead of recovery. The problem with this surgery is that it's often, maybe usually elective. And part of you says leave well enough alone...don't do something you can never reverse. That's scary - I'm still a little scared at 4.5 weeks out, walking well and surgery "pain" is less than before surgery. But still scary. Doctor gave me 3 options - one was keep putting up with the pain, take more pain meds and/or cortisone shots, or surgery. Pain and ROM were getting worse and keeping me from things I wanted to do - even Acetaminophen and ibuprofen are not good in large doses over long times. Surgery was the only chance to actually improve - so I took that chance. Still a little amazed I went through with it.

I know this doesn't make your decision easier, I only want to say again that your feelings are normal. It's your decision, only you know when it's time. I made the decision and almost every good day I had I said "I can still cancel" - then the day arrived and I hadn't cancelled. The last week I really looked forward to having it done.

Jan 28 is a big day for me too - my appt when X-rays are taken and hopefully all restrictions removed! I'll be thinking of you that day.

Pat
