Hi octopus, sounds mostly positive! I hope the toe sorts itself out soon. Oh for a walk on the beach... at least it's not snowing here today.

As a matter of interest - how did the Dr tell you to get off the low toilet? I went back to work this week and struggled with that very thing.

Firebrand, he said to keep operated leg straight & push up with good leg. Keeping body vertical, stand straight up rather than lean forward to get up. I've yet to try it, but it looked easy enough. I hope this makes sense.

It does make perfect sense.. Keeping your operated leg out straight.. I still do it :)

Hope you had a sleep in?

Did you come off daylight saving this weekend? - we did :)

octopus Poppet *I* do it, and I don't have a new hip! LOL
Poppewt, how many months are you on Daylight Savings? We are only on standard from part of November thru end of March..... sheesh

Daylight saving in OZ starts early Oct and finishes early April.. Crazy thing though not all states in Australia have daylight saving...

Throws my sleeping pattern out for a week or so!

Poppet, after my 1am late night, it was a lovely surprise to wake up and find it was only 7.30, not 8.30 as I thought. I did sleep well, thanks. Spent an hour an a half at the clinic today to see dr and then wait for a nurse to do a dressing. Have to go back tomorrow, thankfully it's only 10 mins away.

My scar feels lumpy under the skin and is a bit itchy and sore at one point, is this to be expected or should I get it checked out?

Scars do a variety of different things as they are healing including being itchy and also sometimes having little shock like zaps that feel kinda like a bee sting. Lots of things are re-connecting in that area in these early weeks after surgery. Lumps and bumps are often reported as well and sometimes a sensation that the area is a little warmer to the touch than surrounding areas. Sometimes the fascia gets a little knotted up as it is trying to heal and reconnect. You can do some gentle smoothing of the area around your incision to try to work out some of the bumps, but just go nice and gently -- not like kneading bread dough.

As long as your scar seems all sealed shut and isn't oozing pus it sounds like you are in normal shape.

Take care,
Cardie

C Mac

Thanks Cardie, I was just a bit concerned now I have an infection in my toe, I hoped there wasn't one in my scar. The lumpy bit was quite red and sore last night, but it is the point where my knickers go across it, and I had just been pressing it, to see if any yucky was going to come out. To put my mind totally at ease I'll just get the doctor to check it today when I go for the dressing change to my toe.

Kiwi D, bummer about your toe, but it's good you've got it sorted out quickly. Like our Poppet said, the antibiotics should do the trick.

Good news you got in to see your doc a little early so that you didn't have to add those extra weeks away from work. Do you need an "official" release from your doc before you can go back?

Hi dede62, no official release needed, just when I'm feeling up to it. I'm feeling more like myself everyday, I don't feel like I'm walking around in a bubble when I go out anymore. Will definitely feel up to starting off with some half days at six weeks. My surgeon agreed that this is a good plan, the main issue being tiredness, which everyone here can relate to! :)

That's an excellent plan!

Hope you get some end of season good weather so you can get out and about a little, especially at the beach.

Thanks dede62, it's been pretty good still, although a bit colder.

Good news, toe is healing, next dr visit is Thursday. I got him to check my scar and he said it looks fine. :)

Good news about the toe Diane. I must say I felt like 'bubble woman' for way longer than you! Well done for exiting the 'haze.' Hang on... the energy will start returning with a vengeance soon enough. Vicki

I've arranged to start back at work part time on the 18th, that's next week! I had better make the most of the rest of my time off!
