Well, today ended up being pretty tiring. I moved my furniture back to normal (it was set up to accommodate working at home after surgery) and felt good after that so started cleaning my kitchen. By the time the counters were scrubbed down with bleach I was ready to sit down. We had an early dinner and that seemed to rejuvenate me. Early bedtime tonight because it will be back to work tomorrow!

Good luck on your first day back to work. I have a few more weeks. Even though I'm bored, I'm getting used to staying home and sleeping later tan 5:30! I'm sometimes tempted to stop into my school, but I'm afraid they will wonder why I can't come back gets,,, I really don't have the stamina. We went to two wedding venues today and wedding dress shopping. I don't want Jackie to hastily pick a dress since she isn't getting married until a year from June. However, this is the ONLY time (hopefully) that you can try on these beautiful wedding dresses, so I want her to take advantage in it! One dress is prettier than the next!!!

I did pretty good walking around today, I took a couple of naproxen to tame own my other aches ne pains, it does seem like each day is better and better! I am SO glad I had the surgery! Before surgery, I had to lift my leg, manually, to get into bed. Now, I just lift it... No pain!!! It's so great!

Have a great day! I'm sure your co workers will be happy to see you!

YA-HOO! The toilet seat is gone!!! I had my appointment with the OS today. It should have been my 6 week appointment but there was a scheduling error and it has only been 5 weeks. (Guess I can't add weeks - but I told them 4 weeks from the last appointment and this is the date they gave me!) When they told me at the desk that the appointment should not have been for another week they said they would ask if the doctor would see me anyway. I was worried that I would have to reschedule and than have to arrange things with work again. Also I was worried that there would be things (like losing the toilet seat) that he would not allow me to do yet because the 6 week appointment is supposed to be the one where a lot of the restrictions are lifted if you pass his tests. Well, he said he would see me anyway and he ran me through the strength and movement tests & all is well! He said I have passed all the indicators for the twelve week appointment! So now I will get to work on more ROM exercises in PT. :happydance:

Mbone Hi Mary, it sounds like you are doing so much better! Isn't is great when you find something you can do that your were not able to do before?

It must be so fun going around with your daughter and seeing her try on dresses. Are you having any luck with the places you are looking at for the wedding? Is it going to be a traditional church wedding with reception after?

Is there a set date that you know you will have to go back to work? You might as well enjoy sleeping late as long as you can. Hopefully you will not have to go back before you feel you are up to it. Your job seems like it is physically difficult with all that walking. Mine is the opposite - I do too much sitting. I have to remember to get up and walk around every so often so I won't get so stiff. I have been getting up and doing the sideways walk and marching around the showroom when there are no customers there. I told the guys they better not laugh at me!:heehee:

Katlover13 hi Sue, congrats on having restrictions lifted! Especially the toilet seat!!! I have to wait until March 12. I am not sleeping at night! I always was a bad sleeper, but it has gotten worse. I used to take prescription sleep meds but I stopped before the surgery... I had to take one last night! I guess I will find out when I go back on march 12. I'd kind of like to wit until after Easter! It doesn't make sense todo for one week and have the next off for spring break.

We found a dress and we are pretty sure of a place. The ceremony will be outside at the hall. It is an interfaith wedding.. We are catholic and he is Jewish. So I'm not quite sure how this will go. We will have a rabbi and a priest... at least that's the plan. We are ping to one more hall on Saturday and hen make our decision!

What kind of tests do they do to determine the lifting of restrictions? Do you still have to have a pillow between your knees? I actually tried using my regulars toilet seat today (one time) and I was careful and used the sink to help me up... Extending the bad leg... And it is possible! Yesterday at PT they wanted me to lie on the operated hip. I was afraid too! I did it but it was sore cuz the table is a little hard!

Well have a good day at work!!!

Hi Sue,
You must be very busy! I just stopped by to tell you the awful day I had yesterday. I decided I needed to get out a little, so I got in my car and backed out the garage to a scraping sound.....I knocked my side view rear mirror off of my car. I had to duck tape it up... that stuff works wonders! Next onto the grocery store.....my debit card would not work!!!1 We tried it again....nothing. I had to use a different card. Then I went to the bank to see if it would work in an ATM machine.....nothing.....a note with a number saying the card is inactive due to the fact it has been compromised and I was to call a number. I called the number and I was told that some one hacked into my card and was charging things left and right!!!!! I then had to call the fraud department. That card is no longer usable and I now have to call the fraud department every time there is charge on my card that has cleared from the perpetrator! Not to mention...I cannot sleep and had to resort back to my ambion! That was my awful day!!! I sure hope today is better.
Enjoy your day!
Mary

Oh man! We're you able to have the fraudulent charges reversed? I would have thought your bank would have tried to contact you as soon as they shut the card down. That would be a very nasty surprise! Two years ago before Christmas I had fraud on my card. I check my account nearly every day and was able to catch it early. There were some strange charges from some places over seas. It was a really bad feeling knowing someone got my debit number and was stealing from me! Do you know how someone got your number?

You really got slammed with the bad luck all at once. I hate when things happen to my car. Do you plan to have it fixed or will you enjoy the decorative properties of the duct tape for a while? At least it worked.

Did you end up having a good nights sleep last night? I've never tried Ambion, does it work pretty well? I have to take Tylenol or Advil PM every night or I can't stay asleep.

Yesterday was the last day of the month so work was crazy. I went in early, got there at 7:30 and booked orders all day until 6:00 then I went home and booked the last minute orders until 9:30. It was a pretty long and stressful day but no worse than end of month ever is. The worst thing was not being able to move around much and being too busy to exercise all day.

Tomorrow I take a cat to the vet and get taxes done. Nothing very special planned. Are you doing anything fun? Hopefully the bad stuff is over with for a long while!

I didn't get a call from the bank, at least I don't think I did. I use caller ID a lot and don't always answer numbers I don't know, now I have to watch my account carefully! We will have my car fixed eventually. My husband has repaired this type of thing before so if can order the mirror, he will o it! Yesterday was one of those days! I've been on a crying jag for two days now! I don't know why, but I will cry at the drop of a hat!!! I think I need to go back to work.... I never nought I would say that! Today was dr. Seuss day at school and my friend sent me a video... It made me sad! However next week starts state testing and I'm glad I'm missing that!!!

I never have a good nights sleep! I hate taking the AMBION! I tried Tylenol pm, Benadryl, melatonin,,, nothing helps except the AMBION, I'm tryingntylenol pm again tonight !

So between the depression and not sleeping.., I'm a wreck!!

At least you've been busy.. That's greats,,,but that was an awfully long day!!! Did you feel stiff from staying in one spot?i notice I get stiff if I ont move often enough. Do you still fit in PT or are you finished? Do you still limp if you don't use the cane ? I'm worried I'll never get rid of the cane!

Is your cat okay? Is it a check up? I hate when my animals get sick. They can't tell you what's bothering them!
We are going out to dinner with our fiends moor tow night. I can't wait to see someone other than my family! Jackie and I will also run a few errands tomorrow. That's about it.
Enjoy your day!
Mary

I'm sorry you are so sad. It is hard to have a positive attitude when you are not getting enough sleep. Hopefully once you do start to work you will have enough activity during that day that you will be able to sleep at night. Since the surgery I am having a better time sleeping than before because it always hurt too much to sleep well. The last two years my life was very difficult and I would wake up and start thinking and then my mind would not let me sleep at all. I used to get up an get a glass of milk and go on the computer. My relatives probably wondered why I always answered their e-mails in the wee hours of the morning!

You had asked before what tests my doctor does. Some are strength tests, he put his hands at the inside of my knees and asked me to push inward against them. Then he put them on the outside of my knees and asked me to push outward. He asked me to lift my foot as far off the floor as I could from a sitting position. He had me stand up and put something on the floor and asked me to pick it up. He also watched me walk up and down the hall. There were more but I can't remember exactly what.
Yes I do still walk like a penguin but am getting better. I"ve been done with the cane completely for about a week. PT is on Mondays and Wednesdays after work and the walk is what we are working on the most. I bought the stair step thing we use there so I can work the walking muscles the same as they do there. They have me slowly step up with the surgery side followed by the other side, then slowly lower the good side followed by the surgery side. Also a side step up with each then down with each going over to the other side. There are several exercises with the stepper that are very good, that's why I decided it might be a good investment. Funny thing is my non surgical side needs the workout, too. Tonight it is almost more sore than the surgical side. I think last year I was not able to give it the best workout because the side that still needed done was holding me back.

My cat Charlie has an over active thyroid and needed to get some bloodwork and a vaccination. He's a 13 year old dark gray boy, looks something like a Russian Blue. He is so funny, at the vets he hates staying in the carrier. He wants to come out and look at everything and check out the other animals. He love everyone - cats, dogs, people. Doesn't matter, every one is Charlies friend in his world.

Hope you have a good time with your friends. Maybe that will help you out of the doldrums. I can't think of many things more fun that dinner out with friends! Are they friends you see often?

Sue, I'm afraid my gimp will turn permanent! I limped before even with the cane, now I don't with the cane! I still get stiff' I think you are right... Once back to work I'll be tired and keep! So many ideal thoughts in my mind are keeping me awake. I think I will pass all those tears by the OS! I feel stronger every day!

Our kitty does not like the carrier either! Cats are so funny and have such different personalities. Dinner was great with our friends. They are our next door neighbors for 26 years! The funny thing is they have the exact same wedding anniversary...month,day,and year as us! We are very close!

Jackie and I never got to bond yesterday because Friday night she came down with gastro flue! She was really sick! She feels better today so might run around a little! How about you? Any plans?

Very interesting PT this evening. They tested me for strength by standing on one leg and balancing then switching to the other leg and balancing on that one. After that he had me walk backwards away from him and back to him several times, then walk forwards away then towards him. It seems I have practically no limp or penguin walk while walking backwards. He than said he believes much of my limp could be because I have had the limp for so long that it is embedded in my brain. After leaving PT I had to run an errand that had me walking a bit so I was paying closer that usual attention to how I was moving. When I really concentrate on not waddling it seems the muscles right in front of my hip are weaker. (Not the ones on the sides that I thought were the cause of the waddle) At any rate I will now attempt to concentrate on every step and maybe at least some of the limp will go away. There are many years of limping to overcome!

I have not had those exercises. The hardest one they have me doing is stepping up onto a step, backwards! That hurts. I do a lot of things with a band around my ankles. Sideway walking, stepping up onto a step and down from the step. My knees bother me when doing these more than my hip. Today I attempted to go to an indoor mall. Well, I parked walked around one store and then ventured into the mall only to discover I did not have my cell phone. Well that put a damper on things because I was afraid it might have fallen out of the car. So back through the store and into the parking lot I went. It was in my car, but at that point I was done. I will try it again after this upcoming snow storm.
Yes, I guess there are many years of limping to correct. I have to be patient! Watching that surgery last night on you tube really put things in perspective for me. Our bodies really took a beating!
Mary

Sounds like stepping up backwards would be hard! Tonight was the first time they had me do anything with a band. They put it around my knees and had me do squats with my back against a wall while pushing out on the band. Last year's PT they had me using the band more. They have started giving me a lot of exercises I can do at home and trying not to duplicate the ones I'm already doing. They added bridging on one leg today.

I don't have to be at work until 9 but I usually get there between 8 & 8:30. The pool opens about quarter to 6 so there is plenty of time for laps before work. My husband leaves for his dialysis treatments at 5 on Mon, Wed & Fri so those mornings will be for swimming. Today I only did about 15 minutes of laps and wasn't trying to win any races. Swimming felt pretty good though, was very refreshing.

Is Jackie back to normal? That flu that's going around is nasty!

Has anyone heard of not being able to get rid of a limp, not because of leg strength, but because the habit has become too ingrained ?

Jackie is back to normal. It was a 24 hour bug! But she also has IBS and that is a main problem at times!
Thanks for asking.

I do bridges with a ball under my heels. I do the bridge, then roll the ball. This is continued for about 30 times.
She also has me balancing on a thin foam board similar to a skateboard. No squats yet.

I wonder your same question about the limp. When I walk, I try to analyze why exactly I am limping. is it cuz I have to or because I have been doing it for a long time. Looking forward to your response posts.

My son and his wife are in town and today we went to the Art Museum in the morning and hiking in the afternoon. It was wonderful to get outside in the woods and hike! Last fall I would not have been able to walk that far. Thank God for technology and for hip replacements!

Knees acting up today because of the rainy weather! At PT on Friday they did an evaluation! One questioned asked if I old wlk for 10 min. Without stopping to rest! Seriously... I don't know if I could! I walk better but do not know my stamina! I'll have to test it again.

It must have been nice to enjoy the museum with your son and his wife! Did you have to stop and rest often?

Going to OS on Tuesday and starting to compile my list of questions!

Any question suggestions???

Mary

Today I put my sock on the left side on without the sock tool! I was so happy! First time in years!

Those little things really do mean a lot!!! Things most folks take for granted and don't give a thought just mean the world to us. It's hard for non-hippies to have any idea why we get so excited about a simple action like this. Yep, these man-made hips are the bomb!!

Take care, Sue, and keep us posted. We care. [Bonesmart.org] 2nd Hip Done! Time to enjoy life!

Congrats on putting on your sock. I'm afraid to try, it's been so long since I have done it! Yep, it's those mile stones that no one else, except hippies, can understand!
