Hi, just joined today, I also just scheduled my LTKR for September 12. I'm excited but also uneasy about getting the surgery. Had my right hip replaced a few years ago. That surgery and recovery went well. I know from reading many posts that the LTKR will probably be more difficult.

I have brought forward this month's list so that you can easily see who your surgical buddies are.

Welcome to our latest and all September Sapphires!

Feel free post your surgery date in this thread, and I will add you to the list. Start a thread of your own in the Pre-Op Knee Section to post comments and share your journey toward hip replacement. Here are the instructions you need to do this:

To start a new thread, hover your mouse "Knee" on the blue line at the top of the page for the drop down menu. Click on the "Pre Op". On the upper right hand side under the "Joint Replacement Awareness Day" banner, you will see a black rectangle with the words "Post New Thread" in white. Click on this, enter whatever title you want for your thread, but do try to keep it short and sweet, then tab down to the dialogue box and start typing your post which can be as long as you need for it to be.

By starting your own thread, you and your questions and concerns will receive the attention they deserve. For additional help, look in the white heading under the blue, click on "Help & Info", then click on "How to Use This Forum". Lots of info there to help you navigate the forum.

Hi everybody,
I'm 45 years of age and my left knee TKR is scheduled for Sept 10. I had a TKR on right knee about 1.5 years ago. This forum was truly a godsend then. It's such a wonderful place to learn, not feel so alone, express fears, ask questions...The most important things I learned from the people in this community last time were - You don't have to be in pain, it's ok to take the pills and trust yourself in physical therapy AND do ALL the physical therapy.
Hoping for another positive outcome, still kind of scared- any surgery has risks. I do remember that it is painful in the beginning so afraid of that too but... Made it through last time and my "bionic knee" is awesome!! I just keep focusing on the results. Being able to have a "normal" life again; i.e. Walk up stairs, go to the grocery store without pain, not have to ice my knee every day after work!! Go for a walk with my husband, not have to decide if I can do something or not because of the amount of walking or stairs ( for example my nephews football games require going up bleachers). All in all this surgery is a positive life changer.

New to the forum, but I've been reading it for a couple of weeks now. My partial replacement on my left knee is scheduled for September 26. This will be my 4th operation on this knee, but my first replacement. Not overly worried about the operation, but we'll see how well my wife (who works from home) deals with me skulking around all day for a month or so!

Scheduled for TKR right knee, 09/17 It will be 14weeks since my THR left side. The THR WAS WORTH it, AND EVEN though I am still healing, I am very happy I did it. Still terrified of needles, and hospitals. But, after 12 years of bone on bone knee pain, I am fixing this knee. My dr had me on Vicodin for 10 days after my hip, then Tramadol. I cant take Tylenol or Ibruprofin. Maybe that’s why he took me off Vicodin, it has Tylenol I think. Anyone have success with any other pain killers? Tramadol wasn’t the best. Also, seems like maybe I should put off PT a few weeks till swelling goes down ? Keep it to walking and foot pumps for a few weeks? Any recommended postsurgical supplies?
