Does anyone seem to have a horrible time with the cold and their bad knee? i have dealt with my knee since 1994 but have noticed a huge pain increase this past week.. looking forward to surgery... does the surgery make it better or worse?

@Haley4 I sometimes seem to ache more with cold/rainy weather but when it's really cold and I'm outside (I have to feed horses early in the mornings) - I honestly just feel like the ice packs are on my knees lol. I too have wondered if "cold" with the metal in new knees would cause them to "feel" differently.

Happy Thanksgiving to all those celebrating this day in the USA.

I'm wondering if the cold temp on our new knee what the pain diffrence would be

@Haley4 my knees get extra painful when the weather changes, like when it's warm and there is a change coming. My OS explained that a change in barometric pressure does that causing the tissues to expand and contract.

What i'm trying to is right now my bad knee pain in the cold puts me on a9-10 pain scale. i'm wordering if that will change with the new knee since there is metal in there

I'm a relative newbie as to posting on Bonesmart but have been reading for a little while. My LTKR is scheduled for Jan. 3, 2017 and I'll be having the RTKR sometime in the Spring or Summer of 2017. Had some relief for awhile from Synvisc 1 but injections no longer working. I guess it's time to have the surgery since oral meds didn't work and injections helped for some time but not any longer.

Bilateral Synvisc 1 from 2014-2016
Schedule LTKR Jan. 3, 2017

Hi, Very new to this site, just signed into it tonight.

Im having my TKR on my left knee on January 5th at the Shelburne Hospital High Wycombe Bucks in the UK.

Quite nervous about it ( understatement! ) Have my pre op assesment on 21st of Dec, which I have been told make take 3 hrs. I'm assuming that this will include a knee class, although haven't been told anything about this, only heard from other 'knee ' people that they have been to them.

@Pattikakes We will be knee twins! Left and same date. I had 4 Orthovisc injections. 1 in each knee for 4 weeks this past spring/summer. They were even ultrasound guided, but they didn't help at all. My OS had said I maybe had a 50-50 chance. Cortisone hasn't worked either so I'm starting the process. I too hope to be doing the right knee sometime May/June (I have a wedding to attend May 5, so anytime after that, I hope to be ready and up for it!)

@weasel52 My pre-op is Dec. 13. They told me to plan on a couple hours. Blood work, ekg, knee discussion, and I meet with the PT for an evaluation. That's where I get the soap as well. I think that is when it will "get real" for me. All I can say is keep reading all the various threads on here. Also, be sure and read the great results of previous TKR's I think it's in the library. I think those things help keep me calm. Not sure I'll be that way as the date gets closer. :scaredycat:

BTW, is starting a new topic the same as a new thread?

@weasel52 we are having surgery the same day! Mine is scheduled for 12:00pm in Boston, MA USA. I don't have pre-op dates yet. This surgery will be on my right knee, had the left done 3-1/2 years ago.
We should keep each other updated!

I'm not sure exactly how everything works on this site. I guess I'll have to research on how to start my own thread, post picture, etc. I guess there's a tutorial somewhere to explain how it all works.
Looks like we have much in common, Jaschembra. We'll have to keep in touch and encourage one another. I'm trying to have a positive attitude about all of this and keep from being too anxious. I know in the end it will be worth it to get my life back. I feel like I've been missing out on a lot since my knees have gotten so bad.
