Hello,
I am having a left hip revision replacement surgery on December 8th. My original THR was December 12, 2000. This hip has lasted 15 years, but the plastic cup is causing osteolysis in the pelvis area so my surgeon will have to insert bone graft. Does anyone have experience with bone grafts?

I am having Right THR 12/1/2015 direct anterior approach.. I had Left THR on 7/14/15. Both of my hips for bone on bone but the surgeon I had used does not like to do them both the same time. At this time I wished I would have gotten them both on at the same time and I would not have to go through surgery again. The surgeon I used is an excellent surgeon my recovery was spectacular and very short and at this point I'm hoping my next surgery goes just as well

Getting my left hip done December 29. I just do t want to wait any longer. Not happy about it but I am tired of the pain and limitations. It's been a longer year but I am pretty sure this is the right decision. I am recently retired (early) due to my hip- so recovery time not an issue. My concern is that I have been told read is no longer a given. The decision is determined post surgery, with a social worker at the hospital. Has anyone else been told this?

New member. I'm having an Oxinium Verilast (Smith & Nephew) left hip THR on 12/15 at Orthopaedic Hospital of Wisconsin by Patrick Jost MD in Milwaukee. I'm 43 and up until a few months ago was an avid marathon runner. Very active guy with tournament level tennis, Pilates, yoga, etc. Pain just got too bad, limping and the toe out gait that I've read others have had. It turns out the cartilage is gone and it's bone on bone. Kind of feel like I'm too young for this. Strongly considered traveling for a resurfacing because I want to resume a high level of activities, but my surgeon assures me I can with a THR. Seems like resurfacing has fallen out of favor. I'm really bummed because for years thought it was just soft tissue issues.

New to the forum. Gonna peruse the site.

Hi to both @Cgsb97 and @montberg.
CGSB97 I am not sure I understand your question about "read no longer a given", can you explain a bit more please. I also have retired early,although not due hip issue. It is nice to have the freedom to know that there is no pressure to recover quickly and return to work or to have the feeling that you are letting your colleagues down by being absent from work.
Montberg I am sure your physical conditioning and athleticism will help make your recovery easier. I was also quite active with yoga and horseback riding and am hoping this will put me in good stead re recovery. All the best to both of you.

Got a call from hospital yesterday informing me hip surgery on 7 December has been cancelled due to surgeon unable to attend surgery on that day. Bit cheesed off because original op was scheduled for 19th dec but took a cancellation to get fixed well in time for Xmas. Being told it will be January for the op now (hopefully). Did the pre op assessment last week and going for physio class today so at least will be good to go in the new year.

Sorry about that @mur4y as that would highly annoy me. I've met my deductible this year so having it changed to next year would cost me thousands more, although you are UK so it may work differently for you.

I'm having left side thr on Monday 7th December at duchy hospital in Truro Cornwall. This is due to protusio acetabuli - been having cortisone injections for the last year with limited success but at last follow up X-ray showed a considerable deterioration with no gap left. Sugeon says he will put in a ceramic mini hip which he thinks is the best option for me due to my younger age (I'm 46) - I'm very anxious and nervous to say the least.

I am having right THR on Dec 8 - this next Tues. I have a bone cyst in the femur, so it's called a "modified" THR. The doctor says he is approaching surgery with a Plan A, B and C - depending on what he finds. He says that x-rays and other imaging doesn't tell him what he needs to know regarding the strength of my bone. Initially, I was told I would be non-weight bearing for 3 months. I am going to a rehab center after surgery.
