Hi Haze,

Glad to hear you're going home! I hope you heal very well and as quickly as possible. I'll be sending up some prayers for you!

Linda

Hi Sue, A lot of good information on here. If they offer a class at your hospital try to go to that. It's very helpful. I attended the one our hospital did this morning and they talked a lot about pain management and how important it was. I was saying AMEN!! The nurse that conducted the seminar was really super and took all the questions that people had.

Can this be done on an I pad?? Don't see any buttons you mentioned

Yes Jamie, He has done over 150 (over 200) last year alone. He has great reviews for bilateral knee replacement and he really is a great surgeon.
Sounds good!!!

WE have had so much snow and ice on our roads here in Oklahoma that I wasn't able to get to Tulsa for my pre-op lab work appointoment, so my surgery has been postponed until February 24th with my pre-op on Valentines Day. I'm not crazy about being poked with needles on Valentines Day but at least we will be in Tulsa so will have the opportunity to go out somewhere nice to eat.
My knee is very disappointed by this change because the pain is so bad, but me...not so much....I am not really looking forward to going down this road again...I know that 6 months from now I will be singing my doctos praises and will be looking forward to boarding a ship for a cruise to Tahiti knowing that I can walk, dance, swim and snorkel...but it's those inbetween months that I am dreading.

Linda Thank-you Linda.Today is my.second day home and not a good one. I have been living on gravol for stomah nausea and pain killers. I know it will get better and I try to hold on to that

I'm sorry about the nausea and pain! Just remember it WILL get better! Just try to keep up with the exercises and I'll pray that these kind of days go by quickly and are few.
Linda

Ok. I have not posted since my first time. Sorry! I am due for surgery tomorrow, 2/10/14. I was operating all day Thursday. Scrub tech student was sick. I was worried. I old him to go home, no such luck. Yo and behold, Friday. Cough, aches, pains, BUT all better and ready for my surgery tomorrow. I must admit, it gives a new perspective to me. I gave had surgeries before, but this is different. I truly feel the angst my patients must feel the night before I operate on them. I do not know how, or if, I should let them know: "I get it, I understand. I have been there". Somehow, I feel those words would ring hollow, no matter what. Surgery is such an individualized experience, I cannot describe, nor explain it. I will be fine. I AM nervous. I fear the pain, etc. but, I will survive and surpass expectations! Good luck to my fellow February knees!

Hey! Welcome to the nervous bunch!! I've had doctors/nurses (mostly nurses) comment about people that have had knee replacements complaining about the pain saying they had the surgery (some haven't had the surgery and commented anyway) and they don't understand why people cry or say they're in pain, etc... I had back surgery L5 S1 decompression and fusion and yeah it hurt, thank you very much. Yes, those comments bothered me and now I'm going in for my own bilateral total knee replacement surgery on the 17th of Feb. Do I expect pain? Well...uh...yeah! But I ,too, intend to overcome any and all obstacles so I can use my new knees without pain and do things I haven't been able to do for over 10 years! No, those words, "I've been t here, I get it, I understand" to me are welcome words if they do come with sincerity. The nurses that show true compassion are the absolute tops and I've had many of them thankfully. Thank you for doing what you do!! God Bless on your surgery tomorrow!!

Thanks so much for the kind words! They are appreciated. You will do great also! Good luck on the 17th

Well, I should probably transition to the post op crowd. I had right TKR Monday 2/10 at 10:30. Walked halls at 3. Thought I would die at 3:30! Went home at noon. I have walked about the house twice. I LOVE the CPM. Ice, rest, elevate and walk. Good luck to my fellow February total knees! You guys will do great. I did not have a block, just general anesthesia. It does hurt, but we all know that. At times, it seems better than others. Totally normal transition I am sure thanks for the we'll wishes and good luck to all
Braindoc

Hi All,
Does anyone know if it is normal for your OS to have you stop taking all pain meds 3 days before surgery?

Thanks,
Lisa

@Haze, @1chutzpah3, @braindoc, and @cowchick --- Please note that the primary purpose of this thread is to have surgery dates listed so that members can see who is having surgery the same month they are and on what day of the month. Comments and questions should be made to one another in your own threads in the Knee Replacement Pre Op forum. Your interests, concerns, and questions will receive far more attention and response in the Pre Op forum. Thanks for your cooperation.
