2012 October Feisties - Are you having knee surgery in October?

I HAD MY LTKR on 16th October but didnt find this site until a week after. SO GLAD I DID.

It seems that quite a few folks have a metal allergy! I have a titanium implant, and my surgeon used titanium staples!! So far, so good!!!

my TKR was October 13th. Could you add me to the list please.

So, an update. I was scheduded for bilateral total knees on October 30th. Was horribly peeved to wake up in the OR to learn they only could do the right. I guess as they were closing that one up my blood oxygen levels took a sudden nose dive and my surgeon, the saint he is, prefered the risk of my rath than my health. We are at Day 12, walking about a quarter mile with 112 degrees flex. I hope that is on track, because they already want to schedule me for the left on Nov. 29!! Interesting to note - he appears to have stitched me up from the inside - no staples or steri-strips. Is that typical?
I hope everyone else is progressing well!

They do staples because it's quicker. So it's good and you may get a llittle better looking scar with the sutures. Follow doctor's directions on incision care to the T! I am glad your doc is cautious! Imagine your having problems during the second procedure!
Now I believe you are supposed to start a new thread on the Knee Replacement Recovery side. See you there!!! And congrats on your new knee!

Yep....you're right, Brownie.....a new thread in the recovery forum is the thing to do once surgery is completed. We look forward to reading progress reports there from all our members as they heal.

I was stitched up from the inside too, no staples or steri strips either. Some type of glue was used also.. My scar looks amazing 4 weeks post op.

Great to hear Spingirl! I am at 5 weeks today (happy birthday knee!) and I have a thin scar. There are still a couple dimples above the knee - hope those disappear.

Hi NightQuilter! I have a pretty thin scar too . Have you posted in the post op area? I'll look for you there. How are you doing?

Doing well Spingirl. 5 weeks out, 131 degrees/-2 degrees, minimal pain. On the post-op I think I am recovering from 1 getting ready for #2 or some such. Left knee goes Dec. 17th!! And how are you!!

That is very impressive, Night Quilter! I'm 7 weeks out and 112 degrees/-7 degrees, also minimal pain. But I sure wish I could move my flexion and extension along! I know I'll get there, I just have to keep at it!

I saw your thread in the Post-Op area. :)

Hi Spingirl - I can empathize with wanting to move the recovery along. We can't control physiology and we all heal at different rates (as my PT keeps trying to drum into my brain!). I'm sure your PT is having you focus on getting the hamstrings stretched and the quads strengthened. And I was a slave to the elevate and ice mantra. In fact, I would even keep my leg above heart level for a whole afternoon at a time reading a good book!! I know it will come along for you!

Spingirl, please start your own thread in the knee replacement recovery area. You will see a black oblong at the top right hand side of the page that says "Post New Thread"--when you click on it, it will open a title box. You determine the title you want for your thread and then to down to the dialogue box and proceed to tell us a little about yourself or you can copy and paste what you have written here.

The advantage of having your own thread is there is a place for you to express your concerns and ask your questions, and all us other BoneSmarties can respond directly to you there and can always find you to post to. This way you will not highjack a fellow members thread with your concerns, questions, and general conversation.

Spingirl
