TKR 2 weeks TKR

If you have walked quite a bit that would certainly inflame the knee. Are you icing and elevating?

9 weeks is still early days. I agree with Jaycey. ”Quite a lot” of walking varies for everyone. If you feel like you’ve gone backwards, it probably means you‘ve done more than your knee was ready for. Make sure you are resting, with your feet up on an ottoman, several times a day.

Are you still elevating and icing, @Bix? Even at 9 weeks post-op, you will find that it helps reduce pain and inflammation. That "heavy" sensation is probably swelling, so backing off exercise for a bit is a good idea. (And, yes, walking does count as exercise.)

This recovery really is a roller coaster, with a lot of ups and downs. I remember writing at one point that I felt as though I was taking one step forward and two steps back instead of the reverse! :heehee:

It does get better. It just takes time. Remember you are only 2 months into a year long recovery.

Sending hugs :console2:

Thank you everyone, I do elevate my leg and I live for my ice pack! I didn’t really think about not walking apart from the first few weeks when I couldn’t. I live by the sea and love to walk along the prom every day.
I’ve been walking about 1.5 miles, with a few stops in between but today I’ve just potted around indoors and haven’t done any exercises, Hope I’ll sleep a bit better tonight. Love this site!

Can you walk there, and sit a while, before you walk back? Or have a friend come get you with a car? That way you could still enjoy the sea.

Yes I walk and sit for a while before walking back. I walk about 1.5 - 2 miles. I’m out for a few hours coz I’m so slow :).

Hi all,
OMG, im so excited, i had to tell you !
I’m at 10 weeks nearly and I’ve just slept all through the night AND I woke up on my side.
If you know, you know
Thanks everyone

Congrats on your sleep. I'm 9 days out and have actually slept pretty well since my surgery. The surgeon prescribed Lyrica at night, so I think that is driving the good sleep.

I haven't walked a mile in one go in years, so I'm always happy to hear people doing that early in recovery.

Happy Four Month Anniversary!
Hope you're doing well and still enjoying full nights of sleep.
It's so wonderful after the weeks and months of restlessness and pain while turning in bed that most of us experienced.
Let us know how you're doing next time you stop by.
Happy Holidays to you! :xmas-wave-smiley-emoticon:

Hey, Yep 4 months since my knee replacement and everything is ok
Was discharged from hospital this week
And last physio session next week
Never thought I’d get to this stage
First few months was so tough,
Pain, lack of sleep, anxiety and depression,
Lost appetite (although I lost 6lbs so really a bonus). Fed up laying on my back in bed
when I just wanted to curl up. Very long nights
Thanks to everyone here, I got through.
I walk about 3 miles every day if I can
I go to the gym twice a week, not for long but i use the leg machines to strengthen my knee
which definitely helps walking up and down the stairs
I need my other knee done not ready to go through it all again, just yet!!
Thanks everyone for your advice and for keeping me going.
Good luck to everyone who has just started recovery!! You will get there, if I can do it
So can you.
X

Don't forget, every recovery is different - even on the same person. My second THR recovery was much easier.

Glad you are getting back to all the activities you love. Well done!
