Good times and more to follow!!! I'm so pleased it's all working out for you - keep up all the good work.

I live in Spooner, WI. I'd be suprised if you know where that's at. It's a small town up in NW Wisconsin midway between Eau Claire, WI and Superior, WI/Duluth, MN (i.e. the twin ports).

We get lots of tourists or berry pickers as we like to call them.:th_heehee:

If you ever get up this way please drop me a line and I'll do the same next time I get down to the Milwaukee area.

Small world ain't it?

Take care & keep in touch. Off to the gym. JMB

That's me & my son outside Camp Randall Stadium. Thought it'd be a nice picture to post w/my threads. At least of the kid, that is!:loll:

Sounds like things are going great for you!!! Don't get bummed if knee gets angry yet from time to time, it will, but will get over its temper tandrum quicker than before. :wink1:

I'm starting the Russian kettlebell class tomorrow night at the fitness center. Wish me luck, my Mike thinks I will most likely wack my knee with my kettlebell as I'm as coordinated as a bull in a china shop! Interested to see how the knee holds out.

Lynn

Nancy is in the kettlebell class also. Let me know what the class is like. Sounds fun. You might wack someone else with your bell, but I'm sure you won't wack your new knee. I'll tell Nancy not to stand too close to ya!:th_heehee:

Went to the gym tonight rode the lifecycle and leg pressed over 360 lbs. Nancy thinks that's too much weight too soon. I told her that I'm listening to my body, but would double check w/the PT folks tomorrow just to make sure that I'm not overdoing it.

Knee feels good, but quads & hams are a little tender tonight.

Keep in touch. Hi to Mike.

Jo,

What are your thoughts about weight training on new knees (13) wks post TKR.?

I'm riding a stationary bike or hiking trails around my home, and going to the gym 2-3x per week for weight training.

For my legs, I'm doing leg presses (on a leg press sled @ the gym) and hamstring curls. I begin w/light weights and do (2) sets of (30) reps. Then I progress to heavier weights with fewer reps.

I use pain as my guide, if it hurts I stop and don't do it.

Do you see a problem with this regiment?

Should I consult w/PT or my OS before continuing with weight training any further?

I appreciate your thoughts & opinions as always. Thanx much. JMB

Hey Mike,
I made it throught the kettlebell class. We did alot of squats. She also had some exercises where we had to kneel, so I had to skip those as it hurts to kneel yet. Knee was feeling tight, but no pain. Actually felt good to get a good workout in. In regards to wt training, I would think as long as you use your "noggin" and if it hurts stop, you should be ok. I know I only had a PKR, but my OS told me I could go back to wt training.

I'll tag Jo so that she sees your question @Josephine: Plus, we have a therapy expert also that I can tag for information @kneesrus:

Hmm, weights at 12 weeks - might be okay provided they are light weights and not too many reps. You don't want to risk angering those muscles. Remember the old saying on how to eat an elephant - one teaspoonful at a time!

mbitney ~

I've been to Spooner! How about the Woodcut Museum (not sure that's what it was called)? Is that still there? I was there when I was in high school for a youth event - I remember how we thought that the next towns over should be "Forker" and "Knifer". Lol... (I guess that's "old" high school humor!)

Good luck with all of your training!

The Wood Carving museum moved from Spooner to Shell Lake several years ago.

Still small town USA up here. Not much changes too often or too quickly.

Went to PT this afternoon. ROM 2-123.

I think I've definately turned the corner on my recovery.:yay:

Jo's advise re: strength training makes sense. I'll focus on more reps w/less weight so as not to "anger the bees in the hive!:hissyfit:"

All my best to everyone. JMB

Big day today. Our son's high school FB team plays their first round of playoff football this afternoon. Hope they do well.:prayer1: Absolutely beautiful fall day for FB up here in NW Sconnie. Sunny & temps bout 60 degrees.:ok:

Tonight the undefeated UW Badgers FB team takes on Michigan State in MI. Prolly their tuffest challenge to date. GO BADGERS!:yahoo:

Tomorrow, our Green Bay Packers take on their arch rivals, the Minnesota Vikings in MN.

As far as football weekends go, it doesn't get any better than this!:yes 4:

Let's hope I can report good news on all the games next week.

All my best. JMB

Sounds like an awesome weekend!! Nice fall weather and football - what more can you ask for?! :yes 4:

(And I don't have to hope for any of your teams to lose because they aren't playing any of my teams! :th_heehee: But watch out, your Packers are coming to play my Chargers in a couple of weeks! :wink1: )

Sounds like a wonderrful trip with your son. It will only continue to improve. I remeber that I felt so much better when I moved! Noe at 11 months it is just wonderful to walk without pain. You are right after this recovery it gives you appreciation for the small things we do without pain.
