Had a great day today!

Started out at the gym. First time back there in nearly (3) mos. Felt good to get back and get in a workout. Lots of kind comments by members & staff welcoming my return.:friends:

Did multiple sets (10-15 reps per set) on the leg press machine, beginning w/50 lbs and increasing to over 200 lbs.

Then rode the life cycle bike for a half hour. Knee felt good, legs felt tired.

Went home elevated & iced my knee. Then got up and our spoiled lab, Molly, looked at me like, "I'd really like to get out and exercise." So I took her out to some local hiking trails and we hiked 3.5 miles (actually I hiked and she raced around a lot). :doggieshmooze:

Got home and took the family, including my mother-in-law, out for BBQ ribs. They had a polka band and of course I couldn't resist dancin' a few polka songs w/the Mrs.:th_heehee:

Prolly gonna pay dearly tomorrow, but it felt so good to feel good again that I just had to go a little crazy!:yahoo:

Been elevating and icing my knee B4 bedtime. Hope & pray that more good days lay ahead. :prayer1:

All my best BS buddies. JMB

Thanx Heidi, it sure was.

Today isn't as bad as I feared it might be. Knee is a little tender but not too bad. Leg muscles, especially hamstrings, are sore but not too bad either.

Did some gentle stretching to loosen up the legs; and I've been icing & elevating my new knee throughout the day. Plan to ride my stationary bike later this afternoon.

It's really encouraging to finally begin feeling like my new knee will, some day, work out swell afterall! :yahoo:

Thanx to you & all my BS friends for your support.:grouphug2: JMB

I think there is something that most of us just can't resist, and that is to test our new knee from time to time! I think it is awesome, and it is a taste of things to come and a reminder that this long journey is worth it!
I'm so glad you had a good day!

Mike,
I don't want to sound smart or anything, but didn't I tell you to wait till the 12 week mark and suddenly things would start to seem better??????? According to my calculations, you are few days shy of that. Just don't be getting too crazy, leave that up to me, I have a name to live up to!! But seriously, I'm really happy that it was a great wkend for you and for Nancy too. She must of loved dancing with you :yahoo:
Lynn

Yea Lynn, you did tell me to be patient & wait for the (3) mo. mark to start feeling significantly better.

While I'm still a long ways behind you, it is relieving to finally be able to begin doing the things we used to enjoy B4 TKR surgery.:yay:

I hope this weekend wasn't a fluke and that my ROM and progress will continue to improve with time.

Part of the silver lining of this entire TKR process is that it makes you a more patient person and thankful for little things.

Hope you have a great week. Tell Mike hello from us next time you talk to him.
Take care & keep in touch. JMB

Pretty impressive day for you!!!! It sounds like you're doing just fine!

I know how you feel about the massages! That is like heaven to me. I go once a week for 15 minutes on each knee. If I could afford it, I'd go every day! How is the TENS unit working for you? I'm thinking about getting one. They used it on me when I was in PT and I really liked it, never thought about getting one of my own!

I like my TEN's unit a lot. It not only helps control pain, but also seems to keep my knee looser too.

The only thing I don't like is dealing w/the leads or wires, etc. I wish that they made a wireless TEN's unit. That'd be the cat's meow!:cat-kittyandsmiley:

Also, I've found out that you need to get spare pads, cause they lose their adhesiveness after a few weeks of regular wear. JMB

P.S. My OS was kind enough to write me a script for therapeudic massages 2x per week. I plan to submit it to my health Ins. Co. for reimbursement. I'll let you know how it turns out. Wish me luck.:ok:

I get my pads in quantity off Ebay! Usually about 10-20 at a time. You also need to be careful not to pull on the wire when you are taking them off as the wire is only laid between the gel and the backing and can easily pull out.

Glad to hear all the good news! I was thinking the other day how putting on socks, stairs, ramps, and so many things have all of a sudden gotten easier. Man o Man I feel so much better as in before the surgery. I am so glad I had this done. So glad to finally get down the road, one just has to persist with the right choices. I still ice and am still PROGRESSING! Yea for all of us! :thumb:

Ann you are so right; life is grand as more & more things become do-able again! (e.g. walking w/o a limp; climbing stairs, one after another; bending your knee far enough to get into and out of your car w/o lifting your butt off the seat; riding your bike; going for a walk/hike; hunting in the woods; & returning to the gym to workout; to name a few.)

As I near the (3) month mark since my LTKR, I am amazed and almost giddy at the transformation from the dark days of constant knee pain & stiffness; to regaining strength & flexion and becoming energized at being able to get around again!

I know I've got a ways to go yet; but I'm feeling lately that the worst is now behind me. I feel like I'm finally nearing the top of that long & steep hill and that soon my road to recovery will flatten out and perhaps even start to go downhill.:happy dance:

Thanx a million to all my friends here at Bonesmart! You've shown me though your unwaivering support & encouragement that together we can overcome great obstacles and accomplish even greater things!:friends:

So keep the faith everybody. Let's stick together, stay positive and always remember to work smarter, not harder and we all will get to the other side of recovery sooner or later!

All my best. :thumb:JMB

P.S. At PT today ROM was -1 to 120.:yes 4:

Very, very good!!!! I'm so glad to hear your success. The joy really comes through in your post.

Great report and great sentiment!

I think all of us feel the same way - wherever we are in recovery! It's a long, steep hill, and we can't wait for the road to flatten out and maybe start going downhill! I know that I've been through some really rough times, and feel that at 9 weeks post-op, I'm finally turning a corner. Like you, I know that I still have a long way to go, but it's not quite as hard to keep going when you can see the light! :ideaIPB:

It's great to hear such a positive report! Congratulations on your transformation!!! :yay:

Went to Madison, WI (Madtown as we call it here in Sconnie) this weekend w/my teenage son to watch the UW Badger FB team whoop up on Indiana. Knee got sore in the 4.5 hr car ride, but iced & elevated it at our hotel last night.

Today, lots of walking and going up & down stadium steps. Knee felt better moving than sitting. Handled stairs, both going up & down, w/o a problem one after another.

Rode home after the game another 4.5 hr drive.:sigh: Almost had "grilled venison" when a dumb deer walked in from of our car 'bout 5 miles from home. Too close for comfort. Whew!!!

Iced my knee during our return trip home. Swelling wasn't too bad after we arrived. Hopped in a hot tub. :thumb: Ahhh....

Resting comfortably now. Tired but happy to have really enjoyed some quality time w/my son this weekend. JMB
