Sorry, folks, but politics is one of the subjects we don't allow here on BoneSmart. It has nothing to do with joint replacement surgery and discussions can get very heated.

Feel free to talk about things like this with your fellow BoneSmarties in PMs, but not on the public forum and especially not in a pre-op or post-op thread. It's waaaay off topic. Thanks for your understanding.

Oh dear. That could be problematic. My language hasn't been all that great lately and I haven't even officially started. lol

Last night was a bad night, don’t really know why, could not fall asleep even though I had been up 16 hours, when I did fall asleep, the pain started in my leg and calf. The only thing I can think of, is that I made 4 trips up and down my cellar steps. I’m feeling kind of with drawn today.

Decided I’m not very good company today, maybe it was the rough night and the pain. I have been med free for awhile, but beginning to think I need to start taking something at night, pain seems to creep into my sleep. How long before people were sleeping with out pain?
My days are good, I didn’t have this much trouble in the first 4 weeks

I take a Tramadol 5 and one Tylenol PM at night and mostly sleep all the way through. In the morning I'm stiffish so I take two Tylenol extra strength. That lasts me through until bed time. At night, like you, I have more discomfort than during the day. Hoping it'll fade out eventually.

I have noticed that with my pre-surgery knee pain, I sometimes think I'm ok, but I don't sleep well until I take a small dose of medication. It's like we get so used to the discomfort we don't notice it during the day, but we can't actually relax for sleep because our brain knows it really does hurt.

I think your right. I have been in pain for 4 years now, with 2 rotator cuff surgeries, and 2 TKR, these being the hardest. Sometimes the pain just wears me down. I don’t think people realize

I had no trouble sleeping in the first 4 weeks, drugs I’m sure. But now I feel like I need sleep to keep healing, and it is not coming. I’m thinking of calling my Dr and get a sleep aid my pain is not enough to take a pain pill, but to much for just Tylenol. My legs and knees have a constant deep dull ache, any ideas?

I don't want to be reliant on any specific sleep meds so I alternate. Tramadol and 1 Tylenol PM, 2 PMs only, Benadryl (suspect it gave me restless leg), Zolpidem Tartrate (think it's an antidepressant but PC gave me it for sleep), sometimes 1/2 an Ambien, a muscle relaxant with a Tylenol. Look at this!

I have to sleep otherwise just a ball of misery. I'll ween off but think the alternating here and there makes me less reliant on any one of them. Personally like 1 Tramadol and 1 Tylenol PM. Just takes the edge off being that most of my pain is at night. I sleep.

You may be doing more activity than your knee is ready for, like 4 trips to the cellar.

I took 1000 mg of Tylenol every 6 hours, which meant a dose during the night, for months. My surgeon also said I could alternate ibuprofen, so I took that every 6 hours, that I was awake (no dose during the night) So, every 3 hours I was taking one, then then 3 hours later the other, and so on. It helped me a lot. My main reason for the ibuprofen was to help the arthritis in my other knee, spine and neck.

That would probably do it. We've all had days when we get overconfident and overdo. I can be hard to remember to pace ourselves even many weeks along. Wishing you some comfortable :sleeep:

Thanks. Just the idea 4 trips on the stairs takes 2 days to recover. It is hard
