Wow the different issues daily with this knee never cease to amaze me. Today I'm sitting on my lounge with my legs up and my TKR leg is constantly shaking. I still have this constant sciatic back pain on the same side so I believe it is the nerve that is causing the spasm in the back of my thigh right down to my calf. Have been doing lots of massage therapy and specific stretches but with little relief really. I spend a lot of time with a heat pack on my back and ice on the knees!
I cannot believe the different health care systems between different countries. I had to get a referral to see a surgeon. Then I saw the surgeon who ordered appropriate tests and then booked in operations etc. I then saw him two weeks post op, then monthly from then on. With my partial knee replacement, though I knew there was something wrong, it did not show on the MRI and the surgeon thought I would eventually turn a corner and all would be fine. While I had ROM of 120 Flexion and 0'extension I was in excruciating pain daily. No amount of PT or personal training could rectify the problem so for over a year I maintained monthly reviews with the surgeon and another MRI and arthroscopy as there was a small tear in the lateral ligament. Eventually the surgeon decided on a TKR. Only after one year do we need to go back to a GP for another referral to the surgeon. I do not have to have a date of return provided I provide certificates of sickness to my employer. I do notify my manager regularly just to keep her informed of my progress. I do worry that the TKR may fail and I will have to make a decision regarding whether I continue in this career, but I will cross that bridge down the track as its early days yet. Let's see how this knee progresses over time.
