TKR 12 months and Strong

Following your thread as similar dates. I feel like I’m lagging but working thru some tightness and swelling issues. Sending you good vibes and looking forward to the next update!

@traceys thanks....also have many muscle/ligament /tendon strains. .....but over it. Everyday is "what's it gonna be today". ...never a smooth journey.

Every night is self massage IT band, massage and stretch stuff all in the hope of a better day. :praying: Recovery is definitely a full time job. Just glad I'm not in the first 5 weeks

10 week update
Well I'm finally here......that goal post from threads i read in the early days.....Funny thing is the post keeps moving....haha 3 an 4 months is looking mighty fine. :spin: Still need to do the steady plod.
Mostly an uneventful week. Did the stairs once only on monday, but i really dont like the down.:flabber:.....i try to take load with my hips.....not good.

But thanks to @sistersinhim suggestion i flew down them today foot over foot.....BACKWARDS holding rail of course.:yes!:..so this is what i will continue unless steps are shallow.
Going up is fine, sit to stand is fine, driving is fine, can sit for long periods fine, sleeping much better

Meds....went 3 days with none until wed this week and had 3 doses. I had been moving lots meeting tables and chairs (all on rollers)on Tuesday, pressure on knee but i didn't recognize it..:yikes:.....but we can always rely on the knee to keep us updated......so wed not so good and of course it happened to have been a particularly busy day for me work wise. But thankfully pulled up ok after 24 hours an took things lightly at PT today.:oyvey:

Doing a 20mins self massage every night before bed this week and i think it is helping make a difference. I do IT band, calves, behind knee and feet. Getting to sleep is easier and walking is easier each day.:tada:

Seriously considering taking the bike out for cycle this weekend..:biking:....maybe to the path by river for a flat 30min ride to see how i go. Knees bend fine and leg muscles ok for slow ride.......just need to get through the mental block....will update on that......so until next update I'll continue to stalk bonesmarties:loveshwr:

Snapping back quicker from an ODIC day is a sure sign that you're on the healing road and closer to the end!

Well finally bit the bullet and went for a cycle on the river path. My mind kept getting in the way....a bit like when i first walked unaided. But i knew my legs could easily bend, but was unsure on starting and stopping with leg on the ground.

Only went out for around 30 mins. Very slow compared to normal an cannot believe how weak the muscle is. Particularly as i was still riding daily til day of surgery.

Anyway a good little test....now time to slowly built some quads. Depending on how i pull up tomorrow will try for at least 2-3 little rides a week of 30mins each then build them over xmas hols

Home resting...haha

That's lovely! Congratulations on getting out there and doing it! Beautiful photo...Thank you for sharing. You'll build those quads back up in no time! :biking:

Good for you!! That first bike ride outside - having to stop, start, put you feet down, etc. is a huge milestone!

Congrats! I'm jealous LOL!
And the beautiful scenery. I'm in the dreary mid Atlantic region of the US. Nothing but rain, cold and brown foliage. Really jealous now!
I hope you can continue your rides along the river :biking:

Yea what beachy said about the weather. Same here in upstate ny. Can’t wait till after Christmas to head for sunny Florida ,and join you on the bike path. Been playing pickleball ,and so far no problems, but that’s indoors and do so love being outdoors ,walking and riding.

Yeay awesome congratulations @Kiwigirl62 !!!
I was sort of waiting for someone to describe their first spin on the moving bike!!! You gave me incentive!! Except the weather here in Northeast US is simply the pits. And my bike is still hanging from the garage ceiling. And missing a tire......but I’m still determined to get on my bike!! Wheeeeee 11 weeks out and feeling goooood! :biking:

Update post ride. ......well dipped my toes in ODIC :doh:very tired legs in afternoon (didnt help that the day previously was busy also). :eeeuw:

Anyway lazed on bed reading all afternoon and night -felt a little better.
This morning tight tendons and ligaments throughout day at work. slow and felt a bit hobbly
Adjusting the 2-3 times a week to shorter stints. Maybe up the road and back 10mins to slowly stretch stuff:biking:
Gotta to remember slow and steady wins the race:kitty:and at least i didn't come a cropper

At less than 3 months post op maybe an outside bike has too much resistance.

Well you wouldn't have known unless you tried, right? So it's all good!

Great news is that you can do it, even if it is in bite-sized chunks. Think back to the first few weeks of post-op....a world of difference! :yes!:

Whenever you go out on a stroll or a ride... remember to include the return trip as part of your calculation. It's really easy, in our enthusiasm, to forget that part. :biking:

True though, we all end up overdoing it at some point along the way. It's part of learning our new knees.

Yes i do agree with you, that why little ones in the street will be the way maybe til Xmas. ... .treat it like i did with my first walks......funny as we get better we think we can just leap to the next level overnight.....its a good reminder:) :-) (:

Ive been wondering how i am going to be brave enough to ride my bike by Easter!
