TKR 10 week check up

I'm like You! I worry about everything! I do feel better after today and my knee tho still stiff felt better! I feel assured my swelling and tightness will go away just not on my time table! My scar was a big concern before the surgery now I just want my stiffness to go away and ROM GET to 130! Doing one to 2 stretches per hour. Icing elevating 30 min or more 3 times a day. Still am not ready to venture out! I get tired easily and knee and leg starts to hurt!
The walls r starting to close in on me!

thank you@schoonie,thank you, forgive me for butting in but l think what you wrote is what all us newbies want to hear,,

I'm at 7 weeks today and I still have the tightness in my knee, but it does bend when I walk. Like most of you sometimes I get so confused, am I stretching enough, icing enough, walking, exercising or am I just obsessing because I'm bored?? Sometimes I get up and stretch and get ready and act like everything is normal and I plan my day. I usually run out of steam after my first errand, but I did get something done:) I know healing takes time and trying so hard to wait patiently.:upright:

I worry about everything!
Then stop worrying! Do you not know that when you worry, you tense up and make your muscles tight and stiff?
How many of you on here were still stiff and swollen at 6 Wks???
EVERYONE!! What else do you except that early after MAJOR surgery!
I'm concerned not doing enough exercise with knee being so stiff
You have that the wrong way round, my dear. Because you are so stiff you should be doing LESS exercising.I recommend you my recovery threads to see how little exercising I did!
First knee. Knee recovery - UK style
Second knee. Josephine's knee story and progress where I did even less!
now I just want my stiffness to go away and ROM GET to 130
Most people have to wait almost a year to get that. Don't be in such a rush. Lower your expectations and have more patience !!! You'll get there but not yet.

@naynay30 yrs. , what Josephine said almost came out of my PT's mouth verbatim at my therapy appointment this morning! I was obsessing about a couple minor things and he reminded me -- gently -- that I had major surgery and was supposed to feel this way and that it would get better but that it would take a long time! I finish up therapy this Thursday after 4 weeks and will just be doing things on my own at home. My ROM is not 130 or even 120 yet -- maybe 112 or 115 (we didn't measure today) but he is not the least big concerned and said it might take 9 months, it might take 12 but that I am doing well and will get there with no problem. He said my swelling and the tight band-like feeling were completely normal at this stage and that, in time, they would go away.

So hang in there -- this too shall pass.

This is probably my worst day since surgery. I almost rescheduled my therapy session, but I drove over, apologized and explained how bad I felt today. Even with that, I raised the level on the warmup bike to 2. I was able to increase levels on nearly every exercise, and it wasn't at their urging. It felt right. Not bad for feeling crummy.

Good job @PolarBear60 ! We are making progress. :)

In my case, I think it's the meds (even if only tylenol and ibuprofen now) making me feel kind of queasy every morning.

I was 118 yesterday and happy about that! Now that I'm doing stretches things r losing up. Feeling a little incouraged today. Tight Band feeling is driving me crazy ! @PolarBear60 do U have the tight band feeling ????

@naynay30 yrs. , I do still have it but like both of you, stretching helps and it may be improving some. My PT assures me it's normal and will go away in time so I'm taking his word for it!

At almost 7 wks my pain had decreased to where I'm taking pain mess more as needed . I know when I'm having a bad day or had a bad nite and will take them by the clock. But even the meds don't relieve the tight feeling. And sometimes it feels like the knee isn't quite attached. Still waking up so tight it takes some time for it up slightly loosen up . It gets a tiny bit better during the day but is always tight. Just trying to focus on the future and no my life is on stand still for another mos at Least which I admit is tough being I love summer!☀️✈️

The strangest part for me in addition to the tight band (which is reduced with quad sets and heels slides--or the sideways equivalent at 4am) is how log-like the leg is. It is getting better, but it is a strange sensation.

Seems to me that a lot of strange sensations go along with this whole thing, @PolarBear60 ! The exercises definitely reduce by tight band feeling too but sometimes it comes back for no apparent reason. I wake up tight too but I honestly think it's improved a least a bit from early on.

Although it has lessened a little, I still have that tight band feeling basically all the time, (feels as though I have an ace bandage wrapped around my knee really tightly.) I am 6 weeks post-op. Until that eventually goes away, I can't imagine my knee feeling normal. From what I have read here, it appears to take months for that sensation to go away fully.

Do any of you take notice when a member of staff gives you information? Celle posted an article about the tight band syndrome and not one of you have acknowledge it. Has anyone noticed it? Read it? We do our very best to help you all, you know.
