Thank you @Layla
All continues to go brilliantly. We are currently midway through a RV road trip across Europe, heading down to our other home in the south of France for a few months. My fabulous new hip and I have been on some amazing walks in new places (with my equally fabulous beagle) - an...
I’m in the U.K., so a different system to you, @Layla, but I was absolutely staggered at how little contact I had with my surgeon, and how little the people who were looking after me in the hospital were able to tell me. Every question was met with ‘you’ll have to ask the surgeon’…. who I never...
That’s exactly how I feel, @Layla - a combination of thrilled to have come so far, and excited at the progress I have yet to make. And I so, SO want to be able to hold on to the gratitude, and the pleasure I am taking in simple things.
Just the four steps? You’re practically spinning around, @Woodstockhip
I hope I can remember how to turn around normally, once my body is able to do so. Last night as I was edging backwards into bed (which I do very smoothly now) I was trying to remember how I used to do it BHR (Before Hip...
@Layla - it is important to note that I am in no pain ‘so long as I don’t try to do anything my body isn’t ready for yet’. For me at the moment this means keeping my shoulders pointing in the same direction as my hips (ie strictly no twisting) - so while I look fabulous (if I say so myself)...
A most excellent pun.
I do feel like a two-year old waiting to graduate from a potty to the Big Girl Toilet, though. Still, I suppose I should be thankful that I haven’t regressed as far as nappies.
@Shadowstar1951! - I was very, very lucky - I walked quite well from the outset. They sent me home from the hospital (two days after surgery) with just one crutch, and I only needed that for a week or so.
I was SO apprehensive before my operation. But it has been nowhere near as horrible as I...
Thank you @Layla!
It’s a great milestone - the operation was ahead of me for such a long time, and now it is receding into the past. I am already taking for granted things like sitting in a chair, and getting into bed, and I fear it is only a matter of time before I have to resume doing my...
That is great to read, @Moosehead - what a terrific recovery. You must feel amazing. I want to be just like you.
Can I ask what surgical approach you had? I’m just over three weeks from my posterior LTHR and although I am getting stronger every day, and making progress on mobility, I am SO...
I gave up on the Dihydrocodeine on my fourth day after surgery - it just made me feel revolting, nauseous and light-headed, as you describe. I found I really didn’t need it, and have got by just fine on mainly just paracetamol in the morning. I have some over-the-counter co-codamol (which is...
22 days in, and all is going well. Yesterday, three weeks from the moment I was being escorted (terrified) into the operating theatre, I was walking in beautiful sunshine in Harrogate with my husband and dog, no crutches required. I realised that for the first time in ages I am letting myself...
Hello Wilky - I’m a newbie here, and have just been catching up on your recovery journey. I’m glad you’re getting to the gym; I saw the Paxman documentary about life with Parkinson’s the other night, and it’s clear that exercise can make such a difference - it was a smart move getting that new...
Are you taking magnesium supplements? I was getting terrible spasms / twitches, but this these forums pointed me towards magnesium and they stopped pretty much immediately. If you search the site you’ll find lots of references to it.
