    First knee replacement June 27th!

Good luck to you all and hopefully, you will all have as good an outcome as I finally had. Gave me back a quality of life that I was losing very rapidly. Remember to ease into rehab at a moderate pace and get off the oxycodone ASAP. Tylenol and Aleve are Much better.

    Revision TKR larrykay's Upcoming Revision

Hi all. it has been some time since I visited here at BoneSmart. It is now a year and 4 months since my knee revision( replacement). This time around, I have almost forgotten that I had it done. I am back to my old habits of exercising several times a week, spinning, riding my bicycle and also...

    Revision TKR larrykay's Upcoming Revision

Well, it is almost a year since i had the 2nd knee( revision) put in. I celebrated my 80th birthday in March skiing with 3 grandchildren and skiing an advanced trail ( black diamond) in Vail. I went back to spinning weekly, along with 2 sessions a week with a trainer doing combined weight and...

    Revision TKR larrykay's Upcoming Revision

Thank you all for your good wishes. I hope you all have as good a recovery as i have. It is just over 5 months out. I would say I have reached the point where I "forget" that I had the surgery. I do have some slight numbing on the side of the kneecap and I get "clicking" once in awhile. I have...

    Revision TKR larrykay's Upcoming Revision

4 1/2 months after the revision. I am 95% recovered. Finished rehab and back to my pre op activities(almost). I had my 3 month consult with the Doctor and he said to see him in 3 years. No pain, walking, up and down stairs, or exercising. At the gym, I am doing all sorts of squats to build up...

Revision TKR Totally recovered at last!

You are doing very well. I wish my scar looks as good as yours. Mine was sown internally and glued on the outside. I have a thread hanging a the top and at the bottom. I was told, it will eventually dissolve. Keep up the good wok, especially on the bike. I am hoping to ride outdoors at the end...

    Revision TKR larrykay's Upcoming Revision

Almost 4 weeks after the revision... I found that the Medicare authorized "aggressive therapy" was anything but accelerated. The visiting therapist came every day until the end of the 2nd week. Their therapy was just watching me do the usual ankle pumps, heel slides and walking with a cane up...

Revision TKR Looking for a TKR revision Dr in Northeast (US)

Hospital for Special Surgery in NYC has the greatest amount of doctors who do TKR's and revisions. In fact, my OS is doing a revision for me very shortly. He does 300 to 400 TKRs a year and a small amount of revisions. I also got a 2nd opinion from another Dr at the same hospital that is in a...

    Revision TKR larrykay's Upcoming Revision

Josephine, These are photos I took direct from the screen in the OS office. I have ordered a copy of them as well as the diagnosis report from him and also I have the 2nd opinion report that is from another similar surgeon who does the same work. A 3rd opinion came from my original orthopod...

    Revision TKR larrykay's Upcoming Revision

Josephine, thank you for your comments. The OS is most likely going to use a long stem Zimmer to match the femoral component that seems to be sound. It is longer and has a mesh collar to let the bone grow into it. I hope this makes a better bond that the looseniong I have had with the cement...

Revision TKR Never give up, keep trying, don't settle - that's me, Bonnie

Hey, Bonnie, you are my inspiration. I am so glad that your new revision has done the job. I was thinking about the difference in length of your legs with the new spacer etc. I had a visit with my OS, who will be doin g the revision in early June. He showed me that not only has the cement...

Revision TKR Totally recovered at last!

Mariam, Wow, it is hard to believe that your original OS botched you and others with lousy TKR's. I had a fabulous recovery from my TKR 2 1/2 yrs ago. I was the poster boy for the surgeon. I skied for two seasons, bicycled and went spinning. This past winter I started getting muscle pains. when...

Revision TKR Totally recovered at last!

Glad to see that you are having good progress with your revision. Lovely looking staples. Just keep walking and icing. Are you using a CPM machine? As my date for my revision gets closer, I get moments of panic, thinking of having to go through the pain and rehab. At least this time, my leg...

    Revision TKR larrykay's Upcoming Revision

Well, at 79, I was skiing very regularly after my original TKR, but the revision is not scheduled until June 6, so I have to forgo this season. I am still biking indoors regularly, even spinning once a week. So no complaints. Hopefully after the revision I can get to my normal activities even...
