Just wondered if any one had any advice. My right hip was really bad today. I went shopping for a couple of hours and halfway through was limping badly on my right side. In fact it plays up most days one way or another. My OS when I went in January said it showed slight signs of wear & tear and basically to put up with it for a while. Is anyone else having this sort of problem? I am taking Meds again but for my un operated side. My recovery on my left hip is fab but right side is putting a bit of a downer on my progress now.:sigh:

Thanks for listening

i have had my RTHR done but unfortunately I was told my left looked a lot worse than my right but it was my right that was giving me problems.
Your right has took the brunt of supporting your left and it seems you will need to get the right one done eventually.
For the doc to tell you to just put up with it for a while is a bit harsh :skeptical:, hopefully you won't wait to long before you get the other one done rider

I'm having that problem myself in my knee. Rather par for the course, I'm afraid. Very often one joint goes, the other does too as it's led pretty much the same life and then taking the weight of the other joint when it was operated upon!

But I think that when the surgeon said put up with it for a while, he didn't really mean forever and that 'while' is now at an end. So go see him (or someone else if you prefer) and say "Well, I waited - now when an I get it done!".

2 weeks after my RTHR I am desperately hoping the left side holds out long enough for a full recovery on the right. The left side has arthritis too and a cyst in the joint. The surgeon is keen to do the other one asap, around about the 3 month post op period. Looking on the bright side I can recover the second time in France where we normally spend the summer.

Thankyou all for your comments I really appreciate the support everyone gives.
Sort of knew that it would come to it but just not so soon.

Hang in their Rider and if you need to talk then come back on and see us all everyone is really helpful.

I too know that I will need my other hip doing in the future. Finding it not too much of a problem at the moment. Long may it continue.

Yes, I have that issue, too!
I had my right hip done about 11 months ago.
A year and a few months before that, I'd fallen on the ice and had landed on my left hip, which developed an incredibly painful bursitis in the healing. I went to a walk-in clinic for x rays, to make sure I hadn't in fact broken anything, and the doctor called back to say there were no breaks but I had significant arthritis.
I kind of ignored that, did PT..... and by the spring, my left hip was fine but my right was hurting badly (perhaps from taking most of the load while the left was recovering from bursitis) ....so it was my right one that I had replaced.
At this point, I am getting increasing twinges in the left, and can sometimes hear/feel popping in that joint when I move it..... I am hoping to get another year or two out of it, but we'll see.

Sorry to hear about your new pain and discomfort. We say over and over that we all heal in different ways and at different rates. Unfortunately, I think we also deteriorate with the same differences.

My condition came on very suddenly and without apparent warning. It went from annoying to "I can't stand it" in months.Other people report going for years with a gradual decline. I never heard a scientific explanation of why this is true.

Only your Doctor can give an accurate diagnosis and prognosis. After that it's up to you as to when you've had enough. As a veteran you know it never gets better, only worse and the longer you wait the tougher the recovery. I'd suggest you get an Ortho to take a look and then deceide how to proceed.

The best thing I ever did was not waiting to see how much I could take. It's never easy to pull the trigger, but you know the relief that the operation can bring.

Keep posting. Everybody here understands.

Oh yes, rider, you're not alone. I am back on the waiting list to get hip #2 replaced in early 2012.

I'm also taking diclofenec for the pain and inflammation as the pain in the second hip is much worse than the pain I lived with for 7 years in my right hip.

The good news is that my 2nd hip is nowhere near as weak as my right one was, and I intend to push it to keep it strong knowing that even if it hurts, I probably can't damage it much more than it already is.

I have been walking in the swimming pool, and do over a kilometre each session, and find the exercise is superb for sore joints as the water is warm (85°- 87° F).

Cheers,
~Phillippa

What can I say you are all fantastic on here and have made me feel so much better already. I am taking a day at a time and enjoying it. Yesterday I had a lovely ride in the sunshine here in England!! I hope to do the same today although looking out the window the sun has done a runner today!
Will start to push for the other hip to be done and in the mean time as Philipa says I cant do much more damage to it!!! :th_heehee:
Once again thankyou to you all and take care

Jane:yay:
