THR Worried about Limp PostOp

@Kdk1784
Pleas don't worry! It will go away, it just takes time and concentration.

1. Keep practicing the heel toe walking, it will come.
2. Grab your cane when you start getting tired.
3. Every week you will notice that you can go a little farther before you need the cane.

Don't lose heart!

I’m 10 weeks post op and still have a little limp. Super frustrating and I feel it will never go away. I’m trying to stay positive but it’s hard.
I know it's hard, specially when you were young and fit before surgery.

But try to remember that complete recovery from a hip replacement takes a full year. At only 10 weeks post op, your hip still has plenty of time to improve. Where it is now is not where it's going to end up.

It's encouraging that you only have a little limp. That promises well for the future.

I still am pretty fit.

Good! All the more reason to trust that the limp will ease as your healthy and fit body continues to heal from the trauma it endured a mere 10 weeks ago. Continue practicing heel-toe walking. This involves striking the ground with your heel first, then rolling through your heel to your toe, and pushing out of the step with your toe.

Please try not to obsess about the limp. Many limp for a time post op. You’re not alone. Have confidence that it will disappear with time.

A great rest of the week to you!

And you are still young @Kdk1784! For myself I had muscles and tendons that either shrunk or loosened to protect the joint, leading to part of my pre-surgery limp. Afterwards not only did those tissues need to regain their original geometry, but I had to overcome "muscle memory" after having limped so long. Have patience (I know, way easier said than done) and follow the walking guidance above. You will walk limp free soon.

Hi @Kdk1784
Wondering if you are seeing any progress getting rid of your limp.
I know my limp would return if I was over active and my Still Healing soft tissue tired quickly.
My PT did some strengthening work with me and gait training.
What PT work, if any, are you doing?
As you heard from other members, this recovery can take take up to and over a year.
Hope you are still resting it when necessary and icing after a busy day.
I was doing that regularly for nine or ten months
Hang in there.
